Continental continues to produce many of the Original Equipment tires for a large amount of vehicles in production today. However, they do much more than manufacture the ContiProContact that may have come equipped on your vehicle from the factory. They have several lines of performance and touring tires for cars, trucks and SUVs that are at a reasonable cost and outperform the competition.
The Continental ExtremeContact DWS has been an all-star for our customers. It boasts the best winter traction in the Ultra High Performance All-Season category and has some of the best wet traction and ride comfort in that class as well. The only general complaint about this tire is that the sidewalls are too soft. Most people don't notice this because they aren't driving these tires to their limits. But, for enthusiasts, there was just a bit too much bend in the sidewall during hard turning to really give the steering response they wanted. The new ExtremeContact DWS 06 aims to change that.
Continental has beefed up the steering response quite a bit for the new tire. It's a good guess that we'll see this tire at the top of the list in performance, ride, wet/dry traction and snow handling before too long. I had the opportunity to drive this tire on several vehicles at Continental's Proving Grounds in Uvalde, TX recently, and it did not disappoint at all!
