Tire Rack is in winter / snow tire mode! After all, it's never too early to prepare for icy roads covered with slush. Your vehicle's safety, and consequently your safety, is on the line. Though it's still warm outside, we were able to test some of our Studless Ice and Snow tires on the glare ice of a local indoor hockey rink. And on the roads surrounding it, which helped us get a better understanding of ride comfort—all four of which pleased us in that department.
We used four BMW E92 328i coupes, on which we installed the following: Bridgestone Blizzak WS70 (the newest member of the group), Continental ExtremeWinterContact, Dunlop Graspic DS-3, and Michelin X-Ice Xi2. As you can see in the chart at right, our favorite performer was Continental's ExtremeWinterContact. We liked the stable and clear handling, and found this tire to have very good ice traction.
