Aftermarket Wheels and Original Equipment Lug Nuts or Bolts

Yes, sometimes the two go together. A variety of aftermarket alloy wheels are designed to use your vehicle's current lug nuts or bolts, though they can require something different if the wheel's seat design calls for it. Or if the center cap needs shorter lug heads to fit properly. And as your tire and wheel specialists, Tire Rack will always let you know when new hardware is needed.

Your invoice will indicate the quantity of nuts or bolts required, plus size, pitch, seat design, length and even the size of the lug wrench you'll need. And we'll always recommend that you keep those Original Equipment lug nuts or bolts because if you ever need to use that factory spare, you'll need them.

An example would be helpful. e.g. part # N2E 901445HT, NC12X1.5 34UL 35TL 21H CLSD Which one is the wrench size? units? THX.
Tuesday, September 7, 2010 by Team

Dear Mr. Yoshida, The head size is 21mm which is the size lug wrench to use. Here is what all of the information means: N=Nut, C=Conical seat, 12X1.5=12mm bolt with 1.5 thread pitch, 34UL=34mm usable (threaded) length, 35TL=35mm total (depth of nut)length, 21H=21mm head, CLSD=Closed end nut.

I have an old set of Pacer machined wheels on an 85 El Camino. They look exactly like the new American Classic Outlaw I. It came with acorn style nuts when I bought it.They should be the flat type. Aftermarket styles in local auto parts stores are just a little too wide in the shaft to slide thru the wheel hole. Do you have a set that will fit?

What are the sizes/shape the lug bolts on my 1998 Mercedes SL500 (non-sport)? And if I am putting a 12mm spacer on the rear wheels, and a 5mm spacer on the front wheels do I need to purchase longer lug bolts? If so, what sizes? Thank you!

I bought a set of American racing wheels(AR88777886445AMF)for my 2011 Volkswagon, but I can't use my lug wrench that comes with the car. Do you have a lug wrench that will work with these wheels?
Monday, October 31, 2011 by Ben@tirerack

Yes, the Gorilla Power Wrench is available and is compatible with 1/2" drive sockets, which we also have available.

i have a 2000 Volkswagen beetle that i purchased yesterday and when we tried fitting the OEM lug bolts to them they wouldnt fit. the lug head was to big. so i thought it was just the lug head that wouldnt fit so i tried putting it on the other side but the thread part of the bolt would not fit either. do i need to do a conversion? i was told there were no aftermarket lug bolts? help!!
Tuesday, December 6, 2011 by ben@tirerack

Not sure which wheel you are trying to fit to the VW. Did you buy the car without wheels? Are you trying to put a different wheel on it? -ben@tirerack

I bought a used 1996 Acura Integra with Borbet tires. I got a flat and can't remove the tire with the lug wrench that came with the car nor could the tow service. What do I need to remove the lugs & where can I get it so I don't have this problem in the future.
Tuesday, December 27, 2011 by Ben

Julie: You may have locking lug nuts, which would either need a key or a chisel to remove. You may need a thin wall socket of the proper size for the lug nuts. We would need to know the specifics of what you have on the car to advise further. Please email for assistance.
Tuesday, December 27, 2011 by Ben

Mike: We do not have a listing for the parts by Hyundai part #, but we can supply lugs for you.

Here is what we would need to know:

Thread size and pitch
Head size
Seat type
Nut (open or closed)
Shank or no shank?
If nut with shank, what diameter shank and how long is shank? --

I have a set of 22" KMC slide rims I bought for my '06 Expedition. I have traded my expedition in for a '12 Silverado 1500. The rims fit the Chevy, but the factory lug nuts are too big for the rims. Do you carry lug nuts and a socket that will fit them?
Wednesday, February 22, 2012 by Marshall @ Tire Rack

We do carry a Slide wheel to fit the 12 Silverado and therefore could get you the proper lug equipment. Please contact with your inquiry.

I have a set of 20" Granite Alloy XL that were on a 08 GMC. I traded the GMC for a Dodge 2500. The rims fit, but the lugs that came with them do not fit the Dodge bolts. Do you have the proper lugs for this wheel and truck combination?
Tuesday, February 28, 2012 by Marshall @ Tire Rack

Please email me directly with the exact make of Granite wheel you have as well as your vehicle info. I would be happy to search for lug hardware.

I have a 1999 Honda Civic Si with Enkei wheels. I bought the car with the wheels and the guy did not give me a key for the lugs. i tried all the tire stores in my town and they dont have any sockets that fit. Any help would greatly be appreciated
Thursday, April 19, 2012 by Marshall @ Tire Rack

Without having seen the pattern for the key in person we sadly cannot be of much assistance. As a mail order compnay we do have several lock sets available, but typically revert to the original order to find lug info.

I bought a 2002 Lexus SC430 with after market L sportline chrome wheeles on it. I looked them up online and found ones that look like mine with the following specs: L sportline M III (chrome), 18 X 8.5 all around offset +42, lug pattern 5x114.3 - I WANT WHEEL LOCKS FOR THEM but can't seem to find them at parts stores and am not sure which to get. The manufacturer spec is M-12/1.50, but these have a narrow deep hole, so not clear what to order online. Any help?
Monday, June 4, 2012 by Marshall @ Tire Rack

Thank you for your inquiry, however that is not a wheel that sell and I do not have any fitment information.
Wednesday, June 13, 2012 by Ted Good

I have an old set of Ford custom aluminum Wheels that I bought but I didn't get the lug nuts with them. They require a long lug nut because the socket for the old lug nuts won't even start to go into the hole. My truck is an 89 Ford F250 ext. cab, long box, SRW, 2 wheel drive.
Thursday, June 14, 2012 by Ben@tirerack

Ted, when selling lug nuts for wheel that we do not carry, we would need the following information:

Thread size and pitch
Head size
Seat type
open or closed lug nut?
Shank or no shank?
If shank, what diameter shank and how long is shank?

We can then check our inventory to see if we have anything to match your specs.

I purchased the 18in OZ Racing David wheels and the Lug installation tool that was supplied doesn’t fit in the lug hole because it’s too big. I have to use a thinner tool to be able to install them in place.

Now I’m looking for wheels lock that fits in the hole since the holes seems to be smaller than normal. Do you sell any that fits?
Thursday, July 26, 2012 by ben@tirerack

Hello Ka Kit. I received the email that you sent and have replied. Unfortunately we do not have a lock that fits, but we do have a thinner socket to help install them. If you would like to receive one, please reply to the email from

I am looking for replacement lug nuts for my aftermarket wheel/tire combo I purchased from the Tire Rack about two years ago. I have a 2008 Dodge Charger SRt8. Purchased what I believe were sport muscle BHP wheels. What is the order number for the lug nuts that came with the wheel/tire set? Thanks
Wednesday, November 28, 2012 by ben@tirerack

Hi Scott, those should be part # N35. The web does not sell them separately, so you will need to call to order: 800.461.5527.

What lugs do i need for Motegi Mr 118, 17x8 on a 2002 Audi S4? I also have a M14x1.5 stud conversion kit that i could use as well, which would be the best option?
Tuesday, December 11, 2012 by Marshall @ Tire Rack

Tire Rack's part number for this item would be B13. It is a 14x1.5 52mm TL bolt.
Tuesday, December 11, 2012 by Jack

What is a TL bolt? Tuner Lug bolt? and do you guys sell these 14x1.5 52mm TL bolts? If so, how can I order them?
Wednesday, December 12, 2012 by Marshall @ Tire Rack

TL stands for total length.

It would be helpful to know if the original center cap fits on the specific aftermarket wheel. I just happen to buy wheels for 2 of my cars and the original cap (one for Dodge Magnum, one for BMW 3 series) fits on them. Very happy about that and I would love to know this info for other wheels as well. I thought a good indication would be if no additional hardware was required but it is not conclusive.

Do you carry a set of lug nuts for a 2004 ford F150 supercrew lariat 2wd? I believe they are 14mm 2.0 pitch. No auto part stores carry them and sold me 14mm 1.50 that obviously do not fit
Thursday, October 17, 2013 by Marshall @ Tire Rack

Please call us with your invoice number for the wheels you purchased. We would be happy to look up your order and get you a set of replacements.

I just got some VN501 American Racing Rims for my 1970 Cutlass Supreme. They are all black and I would like to purchase the right lug nuts for them in black. What are my options and how do I know that I am getting the right ones?
Monday, May 1, 2017 by Tire Rack Team

Tommy, The easiest thing is to call us at 800-428-8355 with your order number. We can cross reference the order and get you black hardware.
