Initial Review: 3,800 miles on tires

I bought a 2017 GTI Sport for one reason only: Carving up back roads and on/off ramps. I bought these tires to replace the OEM Bridgestone Potenza RE97AS 225-40R18I ones that my car came with. I found traction under acceleration to be lacking, and just wasn't as dazzled by the car as I expected to be. I got a flat early on, and took that opportunity to rush the upgrade.

These Pirellis have totally transformed my car's performance and feel - and that is no exaggeration. It has much faster and more precise turn-in, huge control and predictability at all levels of steering input and g-force, much higher ultimate grip, clear communication of the road surface to my feet, butt and hands, and much better traction from a standstill.

These definitely ride a fair amount harder than the Bridgestones did, but the trade-off is a total no-brainer. The small reduction in comfort over potholes is tiny compared to the gains in all other aspects of this tire.

This upgrade illustrated to me just how huge a difference can be made with tires. It drives like a completely different car now, and the improved communication, turn-in, and predictability near the limit have let me explore the well-balanced and potent GTI far more confidently and effectively than with the Bridgestones. I'm sure there are other great tires to be purchased for this car, but my research did not steer my wrong.

I am extremely happy with these tires. I rarely write product reviews, but wanted to share this info so others can have more fun, too. :-)
