Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus
Initial Review: 48,000 miles on tires
April 14, 2013

This is the 3rd set of Michelin Pilot Sport AS tires I've put on my '00 Maxima SE, and have been very happy with them in all categories EXCEPT tread wear. This set has worn extremely quickly on both the inner and outer edges, differently than prior Pilot Sports. Most of the remaining tread pattern has done extremely well, with average tread depth greater than 4/32, after 47,000 miles. These PLUS tires incorporated a new, 3 compound design, where there is one compound for the edges, a different compound for the center rib, and a third compound for the rest of the tread pattern. I wonder if the unique outer edge tread compound is just not doing what it was designed for.

I love the traction dry, wet, or in the snow, and that makes the tires worth the $$$$'s. But the poor outer edge wear is a real disappointment. Had it not been for the excessive outer edge wear, I would be buying these tires again. Now, I am seriously looking at alternatives.
