Hankook Optimo H431
Follow-Up Review: 7,700 miles on tires
Recently had some snow in NJ, a Nor'easter on 11/7/2012, that hit mid-day, so drove home in upwards of 4+/- snow on roads, not plowed. Was VERY apprehensive about driving because of bad reviews of these tires in snow conditions. Was pleasantly surprised that I had no problem getting through unplowed streets and highways. I don't know why so many people stated these tires are bad in snow. Even at 40 mph, no problem. Front wheel drive helps. Also, others have stated problems with wet conditions, I have not had any problems with that either and I have a lead foot, I'm not driving slow at all. I have a 2013 Sonata purchased in July 2012; most others with bad reviews were on 2011/2012 Sonatas - could it possibly be bad batch of tires or over inflating? I keep mine at 35 psi as recommended by manufacturer; I saw some kept theirs at 50 psi - maybe that's the problem? Overall, I really can't complain about these tires. Glad I kept them.
Initial Review: 1,500 miles on tires
These are OEM tires on 2013 Sonata SE, low profile. They are noisy on rough pavement, which seems to be the norm in NJ, smooth pavement-low noise level. I had Hankooks on a Nissan Murano, couldn't wait to get them off of car, they were so noisy. Wet traction is good, don't know if they changed the tires for 2013 model year vs. the 2012 and previous model years where I see people have complained about the horrible traction in rain. Overall I'm comfortable with the tire for now, but was nervous driving the car at first after reading the bad reviews from other Hyundai owners. Will update post in a few months after driving more miles and if winter brings any snow this year to NJ.
