Bridgestone Potenza RE970AS Pole Position
Follow-Up Review: 10,000 miles on tires
May 02, 2012
I've gotten over 10K miles now, rotated once and have tested the tires a bit more and am still very pleased with the very predictable behavior/feedback and cornering stick (for an all season tire too!). Thank you Bridgestone and Tire Rack!

I bought these 225/45R-17 Bridgestone Potenza RE970AS Pole Position XL's after only two years using 225/45ZR-17 Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus. I am very pleased with these 225/45R-17 Bridgestone Potenza RE970AS Pole Position XL's. They brought back the steering response I didn't have before with the Michelin, now much more like an earlier set of Bridgestone 009 tires. I get a bit of wondering on 'some' rain grooved surfaces out here in Southern California but never is really bad, just noticeable.
Regarding cornering, I feel much more confident since the Bridgestones do communicate to me at the limit and are very predictable. Somehow that was missing in the previous Michelin's.
I've driven in a couple pretty good rains (at least for out here) up to 80 mph in light rain and no issues, good and predictable traction.
You do get slightly more thump on large, sharp edged bumps than previous tires but I'm willing to trade that one negative attribute for the other very positive attributes these tires offer.
Highway noise is the same as the Michelins, no better, no worse and that's a good thing.
Ok, I admin it, I'm a Bridgestone fan now after this second set.

In Michelin's defense, I must've gotten a less than perfect set because they never seemed quite right, had pretty bad weather checking in the tread and sidewalls in just two years and I'm very good about tire pressure too. The Michelin's had such a great rating/reviews but my experience was not good and I will buy Bridgestone next time.
