Michelin Pilot Super Sport Receiving Rave Reviews

By now you've probably heard all the hype about the Michelin Pilot Super Michelin Pilot Super SportSport. Well, you can believe it. After about a year on the market, it didn't take long for the tire to simply dominate the Max Performance Summer category. I have to give credit where credit is due and say that this may be the best tire Michelin has ever produced. Recently, during a test drive here at Tire Rack, I was reminded of how great this tire is. We were comparing this tire against some newer tires and nothing could beat it. It simply has the best wet and dry grip, cornering stability and steering response over the other tires we tested.

Take a look at what some of our customers are saying about their experience with the Michelin Pilot Super Sport:

"Wow! These tires dramatically improved every aspect of my driving experience. The steering response is amazing and the cornering is the best I've ever experienced." -- Tire Rack Consumer Review, 2008 Infiniti G37

"Simply the best set of tires I've had on my M3. Bar none. Cornering is phenomenal, wet performance is excellent." -- Tire Rack Consumer Review, 2004 BMW M3 Coupe

"I love these tires, they have amazing grip, improved steering feedback and they look great. I would and will buy again!" -- Tire Rack Consumer Review, 2006 BMW M3 Coupe Competition Package

"Everything they say about this tire is true. Just an amazing combination of excellent handling/braking and smooth/quiet ride. I feel that the true capabilities of my car have been revealed by the Michelin Pilot Super Sport. They make the car even more of an ultimate driving machine." -- Tire Rack Consumer Review, 2011 BMW 335i Sedan Sport Package

The tire is a pleasure to drive on and provides a very smooth and relatively quiet ride. Additionally, the Michelin Pilot Super Sport is offered with a 30,000-mile treadlife warranty, which is simply unheard of in the Max Performance Summer category.

This is actually a question, not a comment. I have a new 2013 Porsche 911 (991) and am contemplating replacing the very noisy original Pirelli P Zeros with the PSSs. However, the PSS is not Porsche N rated. Would I be at risk from a performance and safety point of view if I put the non N rated PSS on the car?

Thanks for your question. In my opinion the Pilot Super Sport is the best street tire in the world. That being said, we don't know what the differences are between an N rated tire and a non N rated tire. Porsche and the tire manufacturers will not tell us since it's proprietary information. We do know that the N tire is "tuned" to Porsche's engineering specifications, but I have yet to find an N tire that out performs the SS. I've sold many SS's for 911's and have nothing but satisfied customers.

A question please ... on a bmw335i I have 17" on the front, 18" on the rear. I want to replace the run flats with Michelin Pilot Super Sports. Putting two different size tires on the car, obviously eliminates rotating, ... what does Michelin say about warranty miles, and their towing policy? I will be running w/o a spare.
Please advise.
Thank you.

The Michelin Pilot Super Sport's treadlife warranty is half, 15,000, for the rear if different size than the front. It does not affect the towing policy.

I have different sized tires on my 2013 g37s, which greatly reduces tire life. Is it feasible to move to a uniform size setup and if so, what would the impact be in terms of peformance and safety?

Bryan, we're assuming you want to use a uniform set-up so you can rotate the tires and prolong treadlife. The problem is that the wheels are also different and we don't believe the rear wheel will fit on the front. Even they did, they would negatively affect the handling since they are wider.

Question: Have Michelins on all my cars except my 2011 Maserati Quattroporte S with Perelli P Zero run flats.
I have never liked the tires. They only have 20k miles. What do you recommend. The car has a pressure monitoring system. Should I go with run-flats? What is the quietest high performance tire for the car?

Wayne: Currently, the best rated Max Performance Summer tire for this car is the Michelin Pilot Super sport. It's available in both your front and rear sizes: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresults/surveydisplay.jsp?type=MP&affiliate=BF7
