Chrysler Town & Country Tires

The popular 2008 Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan are probably due for new tires. In 2008, most of these vans were originally equipped with either the 16" Yokohama AVID S33 or the 17" Bridgestone Turanza EL400-02. These tires suffer from the same symptoms as most O.E .tires. They just don't offer very good traction and they wear out very quickly. I feel there are better tires to consider when its time to replace them.

A few of my favorites for this van include the 16" General AltiMAX HP or Michelin Primacy MXV4. If you have the 17" size I would suggest either the Michelin Latitude Tour or the Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza

Each of these tires have excellent all-season traction, are very smooth and quiet and should last much longer than the O.E. models.

I have an 08 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT with trailer tow & 17-inch wheels. The General Grabber HTS looks like a good option to me even tho its characterized as a light truck/SUV tire. Can you see any reason it wouldn't be a good choice? We live in north AL and get light snow but mostly rain.

I have a 1998 Chrysler town&country and I'm trying to find out whats the biggest tire I can put on it?
Wednesday, January 18, 2012 by Steve

Assuming this is on the stock 16 x 7 inch wheel, the largest size you can use is a 235/60-17

I have a 2012 Chrysler Town & Country Touring-L and I'm trying to find out whats the biggest and best winter tire I can comfortably put on it?
Thursday, September 20, 2012 by Steve

Hi Ray,

In response to your question, the biggest size you could use is 235-60-17. But the best size for winter would be the stock size. The best winter tire in that size is the Bridgestone Blizzak WS-70.

I have a 2007 Dodge Caravan which I will be driving from Nova Scotia to HHI SC in late October and returning the first of April. What are the very best tires to put on this vehicle. thanks

I have a 2012 Town & Country Limited, would I be able to put a 225-70-16 tire without issue, or do I need to stick to 17" stock size? Thanks!

Hi Bob,
Unfortunately 16" will not fit on the Limited models.

I have a 2012 Chrysler T&C van I purchased new on 2012. It is the Touring and it came with 16" wheels. All info online says these vans come with 17" wheels. Did they, and could the dealer switched the wheels?
Tuesday, August 26, 2014 by Tire Rack Team

Don, our records do show that some touring models did come with 16" wheels. While the dealer could have switched them, this is not common.

We had a 2008 Town and Country that had 16" wheels that I had bought a set of snow tire/wheels for. We just traded up to a 2012 Touring-L that has 17" wheels. Anyone have any guess on if I can use my 16" wheels on it? Considering that the standard Touring version has 16" wheels, I can't imagine that they used completely different brake/hub hardware that would prevent me.

Marc, while these two vehicles do seem to use very similar wheel and tire equipment, it would be best to discuss your fitment issue with one of our sales specialists. We would be happy to pull up your previous order with us and check fitment against the new van. We can be reached at 800-428-8355. --

2008 Chrysler Town and Country. My question has been discussed above, but I just want to clarify something: My van came with the 17 inch wheels. Will 16 inch wheels + tires fit/clear the brakes for seasonal (winter) use?

Hi there, how i know that the specific tire size will fit on my van. I.e. 235/70/16
Monday, April 13, 2015 by Don McGaffey

My 2010 Chrysler T&C is equipped with alloy 16x6.5 wheels, and 225/65r16 tires. Can I increase tire size without buying 17" wheels? What should work?
Wednesday, April 15, 2015 by Tire Rack Team

Don, The largest size we suggest you use is a 235/65R16. This will be slightly wider and taller than what you currently have equipped. --

I think I have read in your responses, but just double checking. Can I run a 2013 on 235/65R17? I currently have 225/65R17 on the van. Would the larger tire rub the wheel well?

Kevin, What year, make and model vehicle are the tires for? --

Hi, I have a 2014 town and country limited can I run 245/70r17's on this for winter driving? Thank you
Wednesday, July 20, 2016 by Tire Rack Team

David, The 245/70R17 is significantly taller than what is recommended for the vehicle. This size will make your speedometer show you are going slower than actual speed. It may also rub on the inside or outside fender. We would not recommend running the 245/70R17 on the vehicle.

I have 2008 Town and Country. I noticed you like the Mich Lattitude tires for this van, but when I do a search on your site the Mich Defender comes up higher in both reviews and ratings. While it's not a touring tire it has higher ratings overall including noise. I'm confused on which is best for my van. thoughts?

Tim, When this particular blog was written, the Defender was not yet on the market. The Defender would indeed be a better option than the tires listed.

I have a 2011 Chrysler T & C - Touring which came with 16" wheels. I would like to buy 17" snow tires plus new 17" rims. The Touring -L edition came with 17 wheels and I don't see what the difference would make. Can I use the 17" rims? Any suggestions... Thanks
Wednesday, November 9, 2016 by Tire Rack Team

James, You can use 17" wheels without issue, but generally for winter the 16" would be preferable.
Wednesday, November 9, 2016 by james

Tire Rack Team - thank you for your quick response.

Curious - why do you suggest the "16" is preferable?

Thanks again.

James, Take a look at our tech article on size selection on winter tires. Narrower tires get through snow better than a larger tire:

Ryan, Yes, you can use a 235/65R16 on your Town and Country, some models came with that size originally as well.

Hello, I currently have a 2010 dodge journey se and have hankook dynapro atm's on that vehicle and LOVE them. I am wanting to add these tires to our minivan as they have excellent handling in any and all driving conditions on our journey and also we do drive on unpaved roads to visit family. Our other vehicle is a 2008 dodge grand caravan sxt w 16" rims. Can you recommend a tire size that hankook makes for the dynapro atms that we can safely run on our grand caravan? I don't want to have to replace the 16" rims. Otherwise, if there is not a size adviseable, could you recommend another all-terrain tire that will get great deep rain/snow/ice traction that I can run all-season? Thank you!

A 225/70R16 size should work for you.
Thursday, July 20, 2017 by Ted

Hi . I have a 2007 Entervan (Dodge Grand Caravan). Van came witj 215/60/16. I think smaller tire size vs door sticker 215/65/16 due to van kneeling function to allow easier wheel chair entry. I would like to put 225/70/16 due to bottoming out issues. Will van accept this size ?

Hi There,

I have a 2015 T&C.. Currently has 225/65/17 tires on it... Any issue with putting 225/60/17 on??
Monday, October 23, 2017 by Andre

I'm interested in going bigger wheels on a 2015 T&C. What dimensions will fit without affecting performance (Tire Rub and Speedo-reading)?

Would 235/75R17 tire work on my 2016 town & country van,van came with 225/65R17's(please advise)....
Tuesday, January 16, 2018 by Tire Rack Team

RICK: no, that size is about two and a half inches taller and would not fit. If you enter your van and search for tires, you will see an optional tire choice and see what else could work.

Want to mount seasonal tires on second set of rims for 2013 Chyrsler Town & Country. Currently have 225/65/R17 tires on standard rim 6.5Jx17 ET 40.
Can I use the size tire on slightly wider jeep rims 7.5jjx17 ET44?
Tuesday, February 20, 2018 by Tire Rack Team

Ed, the size 225/65R17 will generally fit from 6-8 inch wide wheels so as long as the Jeep wheels fit you should be okay.
