Best Tires for Honda CR-V (Part 2)

As I mentioned in my previous blog, "Best Tires for Honda CR-V (Part 1)", the Honda CR-V has grown from a relatively small SUV when it was first introduced to the civilized mid-size crossover vehicle that it is today. As the vehicle has grown, so has it's tire and wheel size.

In this follow-up post, I will cover recommended tires for the third-, fourth- and fifth-generation of the Honda CR-V.  As before, I will present a couple of the most popular sizes used in these late-model years of CR-V. My recommendations are based off of our customer ratings and reviews, our tire testing program, as well as my own personal experience with the tires.

Tire Size 225/65R17

The third-generation of CR-V uses tire size 225/65R17 for nearly all trim levels and was in production from 2007-2011. For 225/65R17 tires, look at the Continental CrossContact LX20 with EcoPlus Technology and Michelin Defender LTX M/S. Both tires have a proven history as superior choices. They have been among the top-rated tires for crossover vehicles for years. With either tire you can expect excellent ride quality, long treadwear and wet traction that is best-in-class.

The fourth-generation CR-V (model years 2012-2016) lower trim levels used size 215/70R16, while higher trim levels use size 225/65R17. Fortunately, both of these excellent tires are available in either size. Between these two top choices, we found that the Continental performed extremely well all around in our testing, but our customer ratings and reviews favor the Michelin, especially in snow traction.

The current CR-V is in its fifth-generation and has moved to slightly taller tire sizing than previous generations. Higher trim levels come equipped with 235/60R18 and the other models roll off of the assembly line on tire size 235/65R17. The two tires that I singled out to recommend in these sizes are the Michelin Premier LTX and Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season Plus. Ranked number one and number two respectively in our customer ratings for Crossover/SVU Touring All-Season tires, both options are an excellent choice. Currently, the Michelin has a slight advantage in our customer reviews in wet traction and ride comfort.

As you can see from this blog, the sizes can vary from trim level to trim level, even within the same model years of CR-V. Be sure to check the size of your tire that is on your vehicle now. If you aren't sure where to find your tire size, consult our tech article "Sidewall Markings."
