The Continental ExtremeContact DW was originally released in mid-2009 as Continentals flagship performance summer tire. This tire competed quite well against other max performance summer tires like the Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Position and Michelin Pilot Super Sport in Tirerack.com's testing and consumer reviews. After the initial test of tire tires, I was so impressed with the Continental newcomer that I bought a set for my own car, then a 1995 BMW M3. Five years later the ExtremeContactDW was still a top choice in the category finishing first in a 2014 full test of the tire, against a tough group of competitors. Despite it's primary focus on handing and performance, customers consistently praise the tires impressive wet traction and ride quality.
Even as of the writing of this blog in early 2018, the ExtremeContact DW has aged well and still ranks among the best tires in the Max Performance Summer tires. This is quite impressive given the fast pace of improving tire technology. Rather rest on their laurels and be satisfied with being "among the best", Continental recently released its replacement for the ExtremeContact DW, called the Continental ExtremeContact Sport.

The new Continental ExtremeContact Sport features a slightly updated tread pattern with changes in internal construction and an updated tread compound using Continental's patented +Silane tread compound technology. The result is a tire with very responsive handling and outstanding wet traction. In a 2017 test at TireRack.com headquarters it finished second overall, but was able to finish in first place in wet stopping distance and wet cornering. Their conclusion from the test stated that "Continental has really stepped up their Max Performance Summer game with this one." Based on what we have seen so far, I couldn't agree more!
