Should I Purchase Road Hazard Protection on My Tire Order?

Many times clients are unsure whether to purchase the Road Hazard ProtectionRoad Hazard Progarm Program.  I am asked the question what do you think; is it worth it to purchase the Road Hazard Protection?  My answer is this; What gives you more confidence driving your vehicle.  Knowing you have the protection plan if needed?  The road hazard protection program gives you peace of mind to know if you do in-cure a road hazard you do not get hit with the unexpected cost of a brand new tire.

A few highlights about the Road Hazard Program.
  1. Repairs are reimbursed up to $25 per occurrence
  2. During the first 12 months, you will be reimbursed for 100% of the original cost of the tire covered by the Tire Road Hazard Service Program.  Beyond the first 12 months, the reimbursable amount is calculated by a proration up to 36 months
  3. Tires are covered for 36 months or down to 2/32nd's of tread depth which ever occures first
  4. Replacement tires may be purchased at any location.  If purchased from the Tire Rack UPS Ground shipping is included in the reimbursement.
Road Hazard ProtectionHe is one example showing how the program works.
Say the original price of your tire was $100, and the tire was damaged from a road hazard in the 18th month of ownership, you would be reimbursed for the amount of time remaining in your Road Hazard Program, in this case 50% ($50.00), plus ground shipping costs if shipped from Tire Rack.

Some tires are not covered such as the LT Metric or LT Flotation tires used on pick up trucks. Also trailer tires are not covered. Some tires do come with Road Hazard Protection as part of the tire warranty also. Feel free to call me with any questions 888-428-8355 ext 742 - Chad

The Continental CrossContact LX20s say they have a manufacturer's road hazard warranty but the warranty states the tires have to be returned to the Continental dealer. How does this work if purchased from tirerack? Can they be taken to ANY Continental dealer or do they have to be shipped to tirerack?
Friday, May 11, 2012 by Tire Rack Team

Thank you for alerting us that you have irreparable damage to one of your CrossContact LX20 tires. Continental offers Road Hazard for the first 2/32" of tread. If the tire currently has 10/32nd" of tread or more the tire can be returned to Tire Rack for credit.

Please keep in mind that any damage to the bead from mounting or dismounting will void the warranty. Please ask your installer to use caution when dismounting the tire. Once the tread depth of the tire has been confirmed, Tire Rack is happy to provide you with a pre-paid FedEx return voucher.

Once the tire is received at our distribution center and our adjustment team has confirmed that the tire qualifies for warranty, a credit will be issued to the credit card you used on the original order.

You can also take the tire to a Continental dealer. If you need further assistance, please contact our customer service department at 800-461-5527 ext. 360.
