Purchased in 2010 as certified used. Dunlops and Firestone tires were scary, screamy on turns, took for ever to stop, always kept skidding and thus my family was scared to drive/ride. These 4 new Yokohama brought back the true joy of driving and ride comfort. Braking is much shorter and firm. absolute minimum road noise. far better gas mileage. we are enjoying quiet, comfort Toy Sienna drive/ride.

Soft compounds equals awesome traction. It also equals short tread life.
These tires are great in dry and in wet. The S-Drives definitely inspire confidence in all weather and around every corner. We absolutely love these tires.

Just be prepared to replace these at 20000 to 25000 miles or so if you drive like me.

I bought these tires for their price and decent reviews. It is a great tire in the winter and after 20,000 miles the tread has been great for this past snowy winter in Mpls. I think my mpg has reduced a little compared to the OE Goodyear RS-As, but the winter traction has been impressive as well as the amount of tread still left after 20k miles. For a similar vehicle (hatchback, small SUV, etc.) I would purchase again.

have a 2000 F150 7700(same as light duty F250) It's lifted 11" with cut out fenders and sees it's fair share of off-roading. We have hot dry desert climate in summer w/ cold icey n snowy winters here. I travel 264 miles each way every other week to go home from work. Over there its a mountain pass usually snow covered 4-5 months and heavy rains at home. I truely get the best/worst of all driving. These tires aren't pretty but siped they are great! 35,000 miles and still holding strong for probably a third year and totaling 60-75K miles. Now if they would just make larger tires!! hint hint ;)

I bought these as a budget-level replacement for a set of Yokohama S-drives. They look aggressive, but have much less dry traction than the s-drives. If you just want a tire for looks and want to save some money they are ok, but I would not consider them a high performance tire. They do seem to work well in the rain.

My 2001 had Yokohamas on it when I bought it (Used). Tread date on tire was 2007. I bought the car in 2009 and they were dry rotting by 2012. They were also very loud, with a high pitch hum on the highway. These Defenders are so much quieter I can't beleive it. No hum. Great handling so far. We never got a great snowfall here in Chicago so I can't rate them in deep snow but they did save my butt when a car pulled out of an alley on an icy road and these babies gripped! I had Harmonys on my old CRV but I like these even better.

This is the second set of winter tires that I've owned. The first were Yokohama tires that were really quite good. When I bought another vehicle, I decided to go with these because they were the #1 rated tire on in their category on Tire Rack, had plenty of positive reviews. They are really great on snow, wet and dry pavement, the only complaint I have is they seem to be worse on ice then the previous winter tires. We had more ice than usual on the roads this winter, otherwise it wouldn't be that much of an issue to me. If you get a lot of snow, these an excellent tire. If you get a lot of ice, you probably want to pick something else. I considered about a half dozen different tires when I was shopping, and these were a really good bang for the buck.

We put these tires on the car at 700 miles. They were a nice improvement over the stock Integrities. The tires were quieter and much more stable at freeway speeds. In wet weather and snow the traction was good. The tires were rotated every 5-7000 miles with an alignment at 15K mile.

Our driving is about 80% country roadsm 10% city and 20% highway. In spite of driving the car mostly for gas economy (in other words gently) the tires need replacement at 32K! This is a serious disappointment. For this reason I can not recommend these tires. Our Honda Odyssey has Yokohama Avid H4s that have worn great so far in comparison.

April 11, 2013

I like to drive! I only used these tires from April through November and they made driving a delightful experience. It's the best word I've got for tires that let me drive (appropriately) aggressively even on wet asphalt. I felt confident they would keep the car on the road and experienced controlled turns and no hydroplaning. I didn't have expectations for treadware but it wasn't great for me. I didn't communicate well, apparently, and these directional tires wound up on the same wheels for two seasons. So I have two good and two shot/cupped. With better care on my part I could have gotten another 10K miles from the set. They are a sport tire and I guess if you drive like you mean it 35K miles is OK. I would definitely buy them again. Oh - they do pick up a lot of little stones. I'll be buying another set when I don't live on a dirt road any more :)

Initial Review, 9,500 Miles on Tires
March 23, 2011

So here's an update after 9,500 miles or so. The tires performed well all winter, handling rain and snow as well as can be expected of an all season tire. They remained responsive, good handling, quiet and smooth, and I was happy with them until returning from a 900 mile trip. On the way home they developed a high speed vibration which was not cured by rotation and rebalance. In fact, the rebalance only found 2 tires out of balance by 0.25 oz! Finally, a road force balance by my Audi dealer found both right side tires were out of round.

The rotation/rebalance was routine, but the road force balance/diagnosis was expensive ($130). The really important fact is that TireRack and Yokahama stood behind the tires. Maggie at TireRack was exceptionally helpful and 2 replacement tires were provided without charge. How good is that?!

There seems to have been some change in the tires, as now they take a set when standing in cold weather, reminiscent of the old nylon tires. After a few miles they smooth out. I think this must be just the replacement tires, as it didn't happen before.

If the tires hold up and don't go out of round again I recommend them highly. And TireRack is exceptional - no reason to buy form any one else.

Initial Review, 50,000 Miles on Tires
April 09, 2013

Best tires I've ever used for the specific purpose of putting rubber on a family vehicle. Approaching 5 years and more than 50,000 miles on this one set of tires. I'm just over 1/16" from the wear bars, so this will be their last year of service, and it's been great service. Hot summers heavily loaded family road trips, towing a boat on windy & hilly roads, rain, snow, ice, these Primacy's did it all.

Dry grip: It's a 2003 Honda Odyssey, so it is not a sports car by any means, but if a tire can make a 2.2-ton box on wheels handle commendably, that is just great, and the Primacy MXV4 does this very well.

Dry and wet braking: Great on all accounts. I have been forced into using maximum anti-skid braking a couple times, and the Michelins helped haul the vehicle down to safe speed with no drama every time.

Snow and ice: Not great in deep snow, but they work. Ice traction is on par with any other all-season tire.

Wet grip: Very good. Predictable at the limits, not that I push that in a minivan on wet roads, but when I have the tires only grudgingly give up grip in stages with no surprises.

Noise: The Odyssey is pretty noisy to begin with, but these were quieter than the stock Michelin Symmetry's, and as good as the highly regarded Yokohama YK520's we previously used on another van, and the Michelin's were better all-around tires.

These all-weather tires served our needs very well through an Idaho winter. Traction was good in light snow and on wet and slushy roadways. They hold the road and take curves and corners very well. We have only put 4,000 miles on these tires, but tread wear does not show and overall I would recommend these tires to anyone in any climate. They have done a great job foe us so far.

These were the factory tires on my wife's 2011 Hyundai Elantra GLS. Overall, not a bad tire. I was very surprised to get 40k miles, although they really could have been replaced 5,000 miles ago, but the weather has been very dry so we've put it off a bit longer. I would call this an average tires. Its got some good things and bad things about it. The worst thing I would say is the road noise as they wear down. Although they were never quiet, they were not an issue the first 20,000 miles or so. After that, they have gotten noticeably louder. If you have more of an economy car like the Elantra that doesn't have good sound deadening for the interior, these tires will get pretty noisy about half way into the tread life.
As far as how they drive, I would say they are great on dry roads, average on wet roads. We've only driven with ice or snow a couple of times since we are in Fort Worth, so we don't have enough feedback to give an honest opinion on ice and snow.
As far as value, I think there are a lot better options available at this price or spend a few bucks more per tire and get something great. We are ready to replace and are going to choose between Pirelli or Yokohama.

This is an initial first impression review. Going from stock tires to these i have noticed a much quieter and softer ride which made my two trips to the office much better than my old loud tires.
Sidewalls i've found are MUCH softer than the OEM Yokohama's, which unfortunately makes cornering a little questionable. Even going down the highway, shake the wheel a little back and forth, you can feel the car floating around. Interesting how i didn't find any mention of the soft sidewalls here, but one i searched for that specific issue found a lot of forums with this complaint. Will post a followup review after i can test the performance in all conditions.

I was hesitant to write this review with only 2,000 miles logged on this tire over 2 months on this vehicle; however, since I just reviewed this same tire that's been on my other vehicle (2001 Sienna) for over 2 years now, I figured I'd go ahead with this review. I liked the tire enough on the Sienna for the past 2+ years to put a set on the Camry.

So far, so good on this car. Granted, it's summertime, so we haven't yet seen any snow or ice, but I've been quite pleased with the wet conditions handling thus far during our summer storms and showers. It's still far too early to venture a guess on potential tread wear though.

I had the Yokohama Avid H4s on before I bought these. The first thing I noticed is that snow and ice traction has improved a little compared to the Yokohamas. The sticky feel of the Yokohama's isn't present on these but they hold their own Touring tires. I like that they are rated for a higher PSI than the Yokohamas as this gives them a more solid feel on the road. Noise comfort is stellar and whisper quiet. Like riding on cotton balls. Much more so than the Yokohamas. Treadwear seems nonexistent thus far. These are a great deal and for those considering the Yokohama H4s, don't overlook these, you'll be pleasantly surprised. I am. Will buy again when the time comes to replace my tires.
