Initial Review, 1,500 Miles on Tires
January 15, 2011

I've seen a decent amount of snow in milwaukee this year and these tires are just outstanding. With the power of the STI I have broken them loose but they were still gripping the entire time, and the wheel spin was due to the amount of salt the city is dumping this year. I thought they might be a little squishy in a hard cornering situation but wow was I wrong, stiff and responsive through hard braking and acceleration. Deep snow traction is well above average for a long lasting all-season tire like these, if your not sure if this is the tire for you in a snowy type environment then go buy snow tires and waste your money every winter replacing them. I do plan on taking these to the track in spring, will update on that when the time comes. The big thing about these tires are the price, for $600 I'll gladly buy these again considering what was on the car when I bought it from the dealership...245/40R18 Dunlop SP Sport 600 which run about $220 a piece if I'm not mistaken and only last for 20000 miles.

These tires are well suited for day to day driving. Not a tire for track events but a great tire that makes you feel safe in virtually all road conditions ... Excluding snow of course.
I have found that traction is very predictable and only at the very extremes of the vehicles abilities will this tire break traction.
I will most likely put these on my daughters accord as well since we both have dedicated snow tires as well.

May 14, 2014

So I ran this tire this last winter up here in Juneau, AK. When I bought my car it came with summer performance tires that they would not switch out at the dealership for an all season tire. So when I got these put on it was a night and day difference! I was glued to the ice, snow, and slush! They where great no matter the road conditions. The sidewalls where a little soft in cornering but they are winter tires not summer street tires so I can't really complain there. These tires are loud due to all the siping they have on the tread blocks. They also pick up every piece of gravel on the road. But if you are looking for a performance studless winter tire these are the tire for you. Just remember not to run them year road. They need to be switched during the warmer summer months.

I purchased this tire after I ruined a set of Dunlops by mistake. I used to be a dedicated Bridgestone before buying the Dunlop just to save a few dollars. Bad mistake. Anyways onto the review of this tire. Simply put, best Bridgestone tire I have ever owned. This tire is listed as a summer tire but I have used them in snow and had no trouble at all. It performed just as good as my all season tires I have owned. The dry and wet grip is outstanding. I have yet to make these tires squeal going around a high speed corner. As for the wet grip it is just like the dry grip, only way you can tell you are driving on wet asphalt is if its still raining. As with all tires there is going to be tire noise but for me the level of noise is almost non existent. I can't say too much about ride comfort with these being low profile tires but I can say they are better than my previous tires were. I can say for sure that as long as I have this car and Bridgestone makes this tire it will be my tire I buy when I need tires. I would recommend this tire for anyone with a spirited driving attitude and even if you live in the snow belt like I do, it's simple, if there is snow on the road slow down and these tires will do just fine for you. After I get more miles on them I will do a follow up review but as of right now I don't see anything changing about how I feel about these tires. Like I said earlier best tires I have ever owned, period.

I came from the factory Dunlop Super Sports, which were plenty grippy for the street but just weren't cutting it at Autocross. So I upgraded to the RE-11A, which has been a big improvement. I feel like wet traction is actually not quite as good as the Dunlops were, but other than that, these tires are a big improvement. My times have improved, the cabin is quieter at all speeds, even my gas mileage has improved. I would recommend these to anyone looking for a good compromise between daily driving comfort and competitive performance, when you want to drive to an event on the same tires you're competing on, or you're in a stock class and have to maintain 200+ treadwear rating. The sidewalls are nice and stiff, letting me cut tire pressures by a good 5 PSI, and they don't seem to take as much of a beating from events as the Dunlops did. All around very happy with these tires.

Initial Review, 6,711 Miles on Tires
April 20, 2014

This is a great tire, but not great for this car and my driving style. I sized this -1 (factory OEM is 17"), and in doing so created the majority of my "gripes" I have with this tire. The size I bought it in has been discontinued.

I have been using snows for the past 20 years, and I've tried Blizzaks, Generals, Firestones, Goodyears, Dunlops. I average around 7K a year driving in the winter on snows.

Good: The tire is an exceptional snow tire. Period. Snow to this tire is a traction additive. Deep snow, slush, light snow - not a problem. The tire hangs on very well when set on a singular course in the dry. Reasonably quiet. Stable under braking.

Bad: If you're a normal driver (commuter), *obey* the speed limit, etc. 95% of the bad won't apply to you. Because it is an exceptional snow tire, it leaves a lot to be desired in the dry. This tire is heavily siped so the tread-blocks are squishy. Full throttle acceleration isn't advised.

The web is full of comments of people complaining about the soft sidewalls, which I didn't heed. The sidewalls are *soft* and as a result I feel the tire compress over bumps before the car does. Somewhat unsettling if your car is stiffly sprung like the WRX is as you feel it "pogo" over transitions. Should you need to do a quick transition at highway speeds it is a sphincter clinching event. Just plan on hitting whatever you're trying to avoid if you're doing anything over 40 - the tires are easily overwhelmed.

Conclusion:

- A GREAT SNOW TIRE
- Very soft sidewalls - not intended for "sportier" or "firmly damped" cars.
- Surprisingly good tread wear - I wore off less than 2/32nds in 6711 miles of driving.
- These are not Blizzaks - on ice you're pretty much on your own unless you get studs. Given the price, I wasn't expecting them to match a Blizzak's performance.

April 22, 2014

I've had these tires on my 2013 WRX Hatch for the last 500 miles and they've already seen all 4 seasons being that I live in New York. Although they're meant to be summer tires they've exceeded my expectations in the cold and wet. Not once have I felt like I'm not in control of the car wet or dry. I mostly use my car to commute approx. 40 miles highway round-trip and the road noise is minimal. On the weekends I definitely do some spirited driving around the local twisties and these tires keep me confident in the corners.

Overall, great traction in wet, dry, cold conditions, almost no road noise, and the steering response is pretty spot on. I'd definitely recommend these tires.

These tires had a better treadlife for being strictly a summer tire. I have had all season tires not last as long. However these tires are prone to cupping. The wet traction was sub par. I dont know how the manufacturer even can say that they evacuate water well. If it rains stay home! These tires will not be good for you nor comfortable even in the lightest rain. This website wont let me rate the tires on sand so I will do it here. I drove on the beach and they are very very good on sand. Believe it or not for sand driving you want a mostly bald tire. I only had 3000 miles on them at the time and they held up very well and even on dirt. Never got the chance to take it in the mud. But judging my the tread pattern I wouldnt want to have them on mud or rock. I may buy this tire again, but not at the price thats being asked for them. Especially when they are not even a runflat and have such poor wet traction. Going to try Michellin or Continental next.

This really is a do it all tire. In the dry, I've not noticed any difference between the summer tires that came on it and these. In the wet....no problem with traction or braking. In the light snow...no problems. I've heard others report issues with snow, but even with the traction control off....they worked great for me. They are a little noisy on some kinds of pavement, but not unacceptable. Very happy with the all around performance.

Traction is excellent but after 17k miles the noise level has been difficult to tolerate. I have some tread left after 20k miles but will be selling my car. Overall I'd recommend the tire.

Considering there is 560HP going through a 255 winter tire instead of the usual 285 hi performance summer tire, its obvious that aggressive driving is not going to be the same. But I'm not complaining. Its been snowing in Chicago ever since I put these on. The roads are either a snowy, slushy mess, or wet/ icy, or have a slippery layer of salt the few times its been dry. These tires have cut through the snow brilliantly. I used to have a WRX; I can almost say this car has not been an hindrance in this weather. Ice and salt performance has been great with a good amount of feel making it easy to predict when the rear end is going to let loose. Nice tires!!

I was torn between these tires and and the Firestone Winterforce. I had the Winterforce tires on another vehicle of mine which was a Buick Lesabre the Winterforce made my Lesabre a tank in the snow I always felt safe and in control in any winter driving condition but the tires had to be switched out after winter. I wanted a winter tire that had some all season characteristics so I took a chance on these Goodyears and was immediately impressed they were quieter than the BF Goodrich tire that I had just taken off the car the sidewall is softer than an all-season tire but that is to be expected. I previously had Michelin's winter ice tires on this car for twice the cost the only thing I can say that was better about the Michelins they had a stiffer sidewall. These Goodyear tires so far have more then met my expectations. We have been hammered with lots of snow and sub zero temps in Minnesota this year and the Goodyears have performed flawlessly. I can't recommend these tires enough!

I have owned 2 sets of these...first set for a Subaru WRX and now my Nissan Rogue-AWD. We live in the "Snow-belt" region of NY state above Syracuse on the Tug Hill. As a result we get much snow EVERY winter. These are the BEST snow tires I have ever owned. I have Blizzaks on my AWD car due to the fact I could not get the right size in the Altimax. The Blizzaks are good, but these are that much better. Do yourself a favor---these are less expensive than most, will wear well and will make an AWD vehicle a true "snow beast"!

Dunlop Direzza ZII Coming Into Stock for the 2014 Season

Wednesday, February 12, 2014 by Marshall Wisler

It seems hard to believe, but sooner or later the cold that has gripped most of the country this winter will soon lift and the snow will clear. When this occurs, competition events will be in full swing.

One of last year's hottest and best-selling performers, the Dunlop Direzza ZII, is filtering back into stock, and in many sizes is ready for shipment. This Extreme Performance Summer tire was one of our favorites in an internal test and has achieved much popularity within the ranks of our consumer surveys.

Take a look at what some of our customers are saying about their experience with the Dunlop Direzza ZII.

"The tires have well exceeded what I expected. I am more confident with these tires than I was with the Original Equipment. The wet traction is something Dunlop should be proud of. I will purchase them again!" -- Tire Rack Consumer Review, 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX 4-Door STI Limited

"I am a hardcore amateur racer and I've used the ZIIs on my Cayman and they are incredible. In my opinion, this is the best street tire there is." -- Tire Rack Consumer Review, 2008 Porsche Cayman

The Direzza ZII features a treadwear rating of 200, making it legal for most classes of SCCA and NASA competition. With 26 sizes offered, the ZII offers good market coverage of many popular sizes.

These tires came with my Subaru WRX 2014. I'm an experience driver and today, it snowed in MD and I can tell you that these tires do absolutely nothing for the car. Sadly, it was only 1/4" of slush/snow on the road. You can drive around with these tires, but do not expect them to give you great braking abilities or handling in snow; engine braking is definitely needed.

Otherwise, in dry and wet conditions which the tires were made for, I'm sure they do just fine in warmer conditions. Although, if the temperature is colder, on a turn, it feels as though it is struggling with gripping the road.

I've never had good OEM tires on any cars and I would definitely find another set of tires for my vehicle.

Great tire. Took them up to the Tail of the Dragon and was not dissapointed. Tires are very progressive in the feel between grip and no grip. They get louder as you reach the limit. This tire makes finding your limits very easy, mostly because I cant seem to find their limits haha. I have recommended these tires to anyone who will listen. They do not last long though as far as tread. I drive on them daily, but in a very enthusiastic manner, and they will last me exactly 1 year. I have not rotated them and if i do they would last me about a year and a half, but i'm buying a new set this year anyways so i didnt bother to rotate them. (i know, lazy). I still rated them high on treadwear because i expected them to wear fast and they have lasted longer than i thought.

These are definitely the best all season low profile tires I have come across. I have had Nitto, Michelin and Bridgestone tires and these take the cake when it comes to all season low profile tires. They last pretty long to; I have about 20,000-25,000 miles on them and they are at 6-7/32 still. I've driven in all kinds of snow and rain storms and had nothing but confidence. The only thing I can say negatively about these tires is that they have gotten a little loud recently, but if you ask me that is kind of normal for all seasonal tires but they are definitely the quietest snow tire I ever had. I would recommend these tires to anyone who has low pros, drives daily, drives in all kinds of weather and care about the look of the tire.

I purchased this car with OEM Bridgestone summer hi-per tires that were worn out, it was very noisy inside, rough/hard ride, and it tramlined on pavement changes. The seller warned me not to begin winter on these tires. I researched Tire Rack and this new design had the properties I was looking for. I was a little worried as I read some owner feedback about sluggish turn-in and don't expect a summer UHP tire's performance. After putting a set of 4 on the STI, I couldn't be happier! My car was transformed, dramatic lowering of cabin noise, my wife now wants to go in the STI now, vs "it's too loud to talk" from before. Just the quiet cabin would have been plenty, but now the comfort level is also much improved. The car no longer transmits every pebble, bump, imperfection to the driver, now it smooths over the small things, and lessens the pothole impacts. I no longer increase grip pressure on the steering wheel when I encounter a seam in the road, the tires don't tramline and sail over joint in the road without diverting their line. The Hankook's have been great in rain, slush, and 4" of snow, traction and stopping are first rate. They aren't much help on ice, but only a studded tire will help on ice? I am extremely satisfied with the Ventus S1 Noble 2 tires, they have made my STI a joy to drive in everyday use.

Initial Review, 3,000 Miles on Tires
September 16, 2012

I'm having trouble closing the gap between most other reviews, Tire Racks test of this tire, and my experience. Replaced the OEM Bridgestone Potenza RE92's with these and the ride is a little softer and much quieter, but steering response is terrible. I'm seeing few complaints of this in the reviews, and Tire Rack puts steering response as one of the strong points of the tire, but I can drive down the highway, wiggle the steering wheel, and feel the car yaw like a boat. It's a similar feeling to when I drive my parents 12 yr old Buick LeSabre, not really an acceptable driving characteristic in anything in a "performance" category. Outright grip when cornering and braking seems good, but again, any steering inputs mid corner result in a delay while the outside tires load up, then the requested change in direction. Maybe I was spoiled by the rock hard sidewalls of the run-flat Bridgestones, but I find it hard to believe all tires in this category behave like this.
