I've ran 2 sets of these on my 02 BMW 530i last car with good results with moring flat spotting for the first 10 min, I just installed them on my 07 BMW 530i the flat spoting is much worse and I've bad vibrations issues with them. I had them rebalanced, wheels checked for bends and the car gone over same problem. The bald Brigstones ran smooth, these do not no matter what i do. both the Bridgestones and DWS tire where the same load rang.
I just now learned their changing the load ranges on this tire, hoppfuly it fixes the issues.
Im stuck with these but won't buy them again.

I bought these off a recommendation from fellow BMWCCA members as well as the other Tire Rack reviews. Let me start off by saying that these made it a completely different car! I'd had the Bridgestone RE050A Pole Positions on my stock 19" wheels, and combining those with my Hawk Blue brake pads at the track, I was constantly outbraking my tires. Now that I've changed to square sizes, as well as switched to the Michelin, I'm getting faster lap times, and finding a lot more grip into the corners. I've got one track weekend and about 2500 miles on these so far, and I'm super impressed!

98 BMW 528i w/factory sport package - 16" wheels, tire: 225/55/16
Previously had the earlier version of this BFG tire on my smaller 15" wheels and they proved all-round very good. The "Comp 2's" are being removed after 2,500 miles. These tires stick like glue and have a very stiff sidewall - from a performance standpoint they're excellent - however, there ride quality is quite harsh - considerably more so that will work for daily driving and frequent roadtrips. Noise is prevalant but as the rires a basically new it's not an issue...but I bet as they wear they'd get LOUD. Conclusion: good value for a true performance tire but think hard on this tire if your car has a sport/firm suspension as you'll definitely feel every pebble you come across, just too connected to the pavment for my liking.

The Chevrolet Camaro is one of my favorite American muscle cars. I think the car has a nice blend of old school style and new age design. Do I have to Put Run-Flat Tires on My BMW?

When it comes to tires for a BMW, many aren't pleased with the harsh ride and short treadlife of the Original Equipment run-flat tires. However, many owners are unsure if they're able to make the switch to a standard tire. The answer is not as difficult as you might think.

BMWs can make the switch to non-run-flat tires, the same is true when switching to dedicated winter tires. It's important to note that in most cases, the vehicle did not come with a spare tire. If you decide to make the switch to non-run-flat tires, a road hazard would leave you stranded on the side of the road without a spare to put on the car.

A solution to this issue is to purchase the Continental ContiComfortKit. The kit is capable of comfortably sealing typical tire punctures, making it possible for you to complete the drive home, to work or to a tire repair facility. It combines a powerful, high-volume, 12-volt air compressor, integral pressure gauge and a latex liquid tire sealant packaged in a compact, lightweight unit that's easy to store in a vehicle.

Another option worth considering is buying a full-size matching spare tire and wheel. Going this route essentially creates a set of five tires that will last longer than just four. The spare should be integrated into the vehicle's tire rotation from the beginning, as this will wear out the spare tire before it becomes too old.

The choice to switch to non-run-flat tires boils down to your comfort level. If having a tire failure and being on the side of the road until roadside service arrives or changing a spare on a busy highway are things you could never cope with, then staying with run-flats is probably best for you. If you're confident changing a spare tire in only a matter of minutes or waiting for roadside service is not a big deal, then you may be someone who could easily make the switch to a non-run-flat tire.

Tire Advice for My Cousin's Dream 2011-2013 Ford Mustang V6 Manual

My cousin is in the market for a new car. What should he get? He's looking for a muscle car big enough to fit his 6'3" frame and at a price around $17,000. Unfortunately, the 2015 Ford Mustang (pictured below) won't make the cut.

Since he needed to move on from this dream car, he started looking at the 2014 model. He checked out a lot of cars at the show, but kept going back to the Mustang. It just felt right!

With many pre-owned Mustangs in the market place, we needed to narrow it down further. In 2011, Ford switched from the old 4.0L V6 and 5-speed to the 3.7L V6 coupled with a 6-speed. Power went up to 305 horsepower and 280 ft-lbs of torque, so he needs to be looking for 2011-2013 V6 Mustangs. I know he'll end up finding the right one.

However, if he stays in Chicago, his middleweight, powerful rear-wheel drive Mustang is going need help in the winter. If he goes with a 2012 Mustang, I would advise purchasing the 225/60R17 Studless Ice & Snow Michelin X-Ice Xi3 on black or silver 17x8 45ET MSW Type 19 wheels.

So I just bought this car and I needed winter tires badly, and I had them studded for extra peace of mind when I came here to tire rack and bought a winter tire package with steel wheels as these are just for winter and don't need fancy wheels covered in snow and crap all winter. I installed these very recently and first impression were good from the looks in person. I took them for a drive as soon as I installed them with our roads being completely covered in packed snow on plowed roads and 4-7 inches of powder on unplowed roads. We have recently received 18 inches of snow in the last 3 days and these tires take it all on without issue. The only time I had to slow down was when the front bumper was hitting the fresh powder on the roads (6 inches deep powder) and was blowing up and covering my windshield and I couldn't see. I stopped several times on snow covered hills and my car just walked op the hill without issue. Being located in Watertown, NY we get a lot of lake effect snow and it can hit at a moments notice and I spent the most part of my day testing theses tires out. Stopping was easily done as long as you don't just mash on the brakes as to be expected with any tire the ABS kicked in but still stopped controllably. Deep snow wasn't an issue, some icy roads are easily manageable, packed snow covered roads were a cinch and I really enjoyed driving in the fowl weather with these tires. No white knuckles for this guy just ease of travel as I was back to feeling safe and confident behind the wheel with these shoes on the car. Now my car has quite a bit of torque for a Front Wheel Drive vehicle that I was concerned about but the traction control worked well and the tires gripped well. These tires were cheapest offered for my car and I was skeptical as I usually go for blizzaks but these I think perform at the same level easily. I would buy these again without worry and knowing they are lower priced than the other competitors just made it easy to choose

I purchased a complete snow tire package from Tirerack including steel wheels, hubcaps, TPMS, and Blizzak WS70 tires. I commute to work 90 miles round trip daily on a parkway with lots of hills and turns. I have already driven in three snow storms with these tires and are amazed on how good they handle the snow and ice. They make a little noise on the highway and my gas mileage has dropped a tiny bit but it isn't a bad tradeoff for the confidence and safety they provide. I have yet to find a hill that I couldn't conquer in the snow with these amazing snow tires.

Drove 150 miles on back roads in a white out blowing blizzard the other day. Handled it like it was a dry interstate highway. Like the Michelin better than Winterforce or Blizak that I have owned on other vehicles. Worth the additional cost. Quieter and smoother ride than the other brands I've owned. Still some noise which is expected from a winter tire.I don't think any winter tire will ever be a 10 in this category or dry performance.These are close. They are made for snow and ice up north! Winter tires help 4 wheel drive vehicles stop as well as they go. Makes our already good Subie as sure footed as a mountain goat!!! Thanks Tire Rack for a perfect mount and balance on the package too!

second pair of these tires originally ran on a 2011 335xdrive coupe. The tires were great especially in snow, I used last set for approximately 26k miles, they were still good and had plenty of treadwear left. Just put these on a RWD convertible with an M sport package. Bought the 17 inch wheels to replace the staggered 19 inch summer rims. Couldn't feel safer with my wife driving it in her commute over the Tappan Zee Bridge in the snow. If you live in a cold weather area, snow tires definitely stop quicker in cold weather!

After going off the road twice this winter, I decided to ditch the all season tires in favor of dedicated winter tires. I purchased the recommended wheel/tire package from Tire Rack and couldn't be more pleased. The difference in braking, handling, acceleration and traction was immediately noticeable and dramatic. We have severe winters herein Northern Maine and the roads often remain icy or with hard packed snow for weeks. Temperatures can reach -40F. Do yourself a favor. All season tires don't work in Northern climates even if you have a 4 wheel drive or all wheel drive vehicle. Service from Tire Rack was 1st rate. The wheels arrived in 3 days all mounted and balanced. I couldn't be more pleased.

Use these as my street tires, in 255/35R19 front and 275/30R19 rear, mounted on a set of Volk TE37SL wheels (19x9.5" & 19x11") on my extensively modified M3. For reference, track tires are usually PS Cups, or Nitto/Hoosier R-comps.

First off, these are the ONLY Street Tires I have run on this car that aren't immediately overpowered by the brakes, which are StopTech Trophy 6P/4P 380mm/355mm 2pc that I use for competition. Braking distance is better with these than anything else that is daily driveable, and in the wet I have more traction than I would have ever thought possible especially from these widths!

With a quite stiff race suspension, these tires have improved ride quality and decreased noise, with no perceptible change in NVH since new.

Control is phenomenal, with very good feedback and they are very communicative as to their limits, while allowing throttle on oversteer but being perfectly easy to reign back in.

Since going with these for my M3, I have also swapped to them on my GT3 RS and they're every bit as good there.

Another benefit is that they weigh in at about 2.5lbs less than other comparable tires, and in my pursuit of decreasing drivetrain loss as much as absolutely possible, the extra 10lbs of unsprung weight combined with the 28lb from the wheels is immense.

Tire Rack Team set me up with a great "Winter Wheel & Tire Package" for my car... These Altimax Artic's are a great set of tires. These studded tires (on all four wheels) preform as well as Nokian's best and they are quieter. I have used Nokian tires for years... Initial Review, 500 Miles on Tires

I decided to use my OEM wheels to mount these tires. I was somewhat skeptical prior to purchasing them and did a ton of homework. Chicago winters are extremely harsh. Having a sport sedan, I wanted to keep the sporty look during the winter months while maintaining some level of performance. I have driven in ice, (heavy) snow, rain and extreme cold. I felt extremely confident (handling and performance) with these tires. I don't know how other tires perform but I'm sold on these for the long haul.

Initial Review, 30,000 Miles on Tires

I just purchased my 2nd consecutive set of these tires in a 275-40/19 for my Brembo package 5.0. My spirited driving consists mostly of lateral acceleration and an occasional downshift around familiar curves. I know for a fact that I'm not pushing the suspension or the tires past their comfort zone, but enough to keep my wallet and I comfortable. Lol

The first time I bought these tires (December '12), I was at 27k miles on factory Pirellis. (Nothing like taking up two lanes with a 3rd gear downshift at 60 on a stock setup.) and immediately felt the difference, even during the break in period. I just purchased my second set (1/8/14 at 56k miles) and it reminded me of how much I love them. Even in Florida's random terrential downpours and nearly bald tires, the car wouldn't act stupid.

Not sure if I got the full experience from the original set either because within 2 weeks of getting them I took a road trip to Maryland/Pennsylvania (Mountains, ice, snow, slush, sleet, salt, the fun stuff. Lol) and they handled suprisingly well. 12/25-12/30 they handled snow suprisingly well. I was very cautious on the mountain (With a line of 4x4s behind me and a little bit of spin going up hills. Lol) Never once lost it or felt as if I would have needed to call the insurance company.

At 420/406 and just an Anti-Roll Bar kit (To take out the wheel hop from having a cheap factory single center mounted UCA.), I pulled a 1.97 60'/12.2 @ 116. Wheel spin expected, but happy for a street tire. Performs just as well on the street with some VHT. They lose their pizzazz after about 15k, but are still reliable for daily commute. From what I've read and experienced with them, they have a decent inner structure that leaves you confident in familiar corners. I say that because you never know what's around the corner and towards the end, my completely worn Brembos could lock them up (Feel the ABS pulse) at 30 mph.

(Running out of space) Great tire. Save yourself $800+ for upgrades.

 

Don't Let a Little Snow Stop Your Ford Fiesta ST

Did you visit your Ford dealer to test drive a Focus ST but end up with a 2014 Fiesta ST instead? You can't go wrong either way, however it's hard not to be swayed by the Fiesta ST's amazing power-to-weight ratio. 197 horsepower moving a mere 2,720 pounds gives you go-kart handling with plenty of power.

This is all fun until winter, as the vehicle's low curb weight and 205/40R17 Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Max Performance Summer tires make winter driving almost impossible.


Winter / Snow Tire Size:

There will be some variance in sizes depending on where you live, but most Fiesta ST drivers are best served by running 185/60R15 in the winter. This size gives you a footprint that's about 1" narrower, while maintaining the same overall tire diameter. Narrower tires will cut through moderate and deeper snow while providing good grip in packed snow and on ice.

Wheel Choice:

Ford does an amazing job channeling all that power without losing the battle to excessive torque steer (the tendency of a vehicle to veer straight ahead under hard acceleration). Ideally, you'll want to stay close to your 17x7" Original Equipment wheel's 47.5 mm offset. In theory, a significantly lower offset wheel will add torque steer.

Using the above information, if I had a Fiesta ST, I'd order a set of 185/60R15 Michelin X-Ice Xi3 tires on 15x6" 47mm offset steel wheels.
