This was my second winter with the arctics on my tdi sportwagon. The tires performed flawlessly all winter, for the price you pay you get more for your money than other more expensive tires. If you live in the snowbelt area and do not run seperate winter wheels and tires your only kidding yourself for foul weather performance! I have been running seperate winter/ summer wheel and tire packages from the tire rack since the late 80's! Great people selling great products at reasonable prices!

as somone who drives in the snow a lot, i can not say that these tires work well in the winter. they are good in dry and wet conditions, but when it gets cold the tires have to warm up before they grip, so the first few turns in the morning are like riding on plastic. do yourself a favor, and get separate summer and winter tires if it snows at least a foot a year in your area.

I'm from the desert, so I don't have much experience with snow/snow tires but I moved to upstate NY and needed some snow tires. I am pretty happy with these tires. Can't compare to other snow tires, but these worked well for me. Good city/highway driving. Much better snow/ice traction than my all-seasons.

I put these on my GTI because it came with some Pirelli Pzero All Season tires that would not hold traction with an APR Stage 2 tune. These tires immediately transformed the car into a much more stable platform, both in straight line as well as cornering. These tires bite the ground aggressively.

I put 20k miles on them and show very little wear, I don't know how Michelin does this, but as a result I just purchased a set for my 2011 Corvette Grand Sport. This car's OEM Goodyear Supercar Gen2 runflats were at the wear bars in 9,000 miles!

Initial Review, 400 Miles on Tires
April 14, 2013

My car came with Bridgestone EL400s, which were complete garbage. When it was time to take my winter tires off, I decided I didn't want to put the factory tires back on. After a lot of research, I decided on the P7 All Season Plus even though there wasn't much for reviews as of March 2013. These are night and day compared to the Turanzas. The Turanzas were frightening in rain and were still mildly scary even in dry. The P7 ASP tires are the exact opposite of the Turanzas, meaning that they're actually good tires that don't scare me while on my journeys in the car. Since I only have about 400 miles I have no idea what the actual treadlife will be, but so far I like them. They are also a lot less noisy than the factory tires. If I remember, I'll update my review in about a year but so far so good.

These tires are great in the snow. The ABS rarely activated under normal braking, and there was sufficient traction to keep up with 4x4 trucks from a stop. I took the Jetta for a 2 hour drive in 9" of snow and honestly had no problems starting or stopping. My wife even noticed a difference and said she never wanted all-season tires for winter again. I had the choice between my 4x4 Tahoe and the Jetta with these tires, and I picked the Jetta for snow every time.

The tires are slightly squirmy compared to the O.E. tires but that is to be expected from a winter tire. Noise was similar to the O.E. tire.

Bought this car new. Tires rotated per owners manual and they became LOUD at 20k miles. Sounds like a wheel bearing gone bad, but it's the tires. They grip well, decent in rain and snow and wear pretty well. They are just really noisy. Will go with another brand when these are done.

Great A/S tire. This is my 3rd set of A/S tires on my Golf R, and the first one I've been happy with. Previously, I had the junk SP Sport 01 A/S factory tires which were good in nothing. Then, I replaced them with Michelin Primacy MXM4's, which were quieter, but still lacked wet grip, dry grip, and steering feel.

These 970's feel almost to the level of dedicated summer tires in the dry and wet, with the advantage of increased wear, better ride, and cold weather performance. They are not meant for deep snow or ice, but I have no doubt that they will do fine in the minimal snow/ice we have in Delaware. This tire gives up little to the PS3's and SportContact summer tires I've used in pure traction and steering feel. If you are looking for absolute top performance, look to the Pilot Super Sport, S-04 Pole Positions, or the RE-11a with dedicated snows/winter tires. However, if you can compromise just a hair, I think you'll be happy with these tires.

I had a set of these for my old car (honda accord 01 v6 225/45r18). They were great so hence i bought these for my GTI.
I have no complaints yet.

I have little fun around this turn I take during my morning commute. 93 south to 95 south split( if your from Boston area you would know what I am talking about.)
on my 15s i can take the turn at about 55-60 mph without losing control of the tires. with these bf comp 2s i been pushing it little at a time. I started taking the corner at 65mph (no problem...was too easy). Next day i pushed it to 70mph (gripped on pretty well still.) at around 75 is when i hear the tires trying to grip on. still does but squeals a little around the turn.
maybe 80mph will be the limit on the turn...

Not understanding all the hate for this tire. Most likely it's because they come standard on 2010 thru 2013 GTI's and drivers who never experience sub-zero temperatures and snow have no need for an A/S tire on a high-performance car. As a result, they compare this tire to either max or extreme performance summer tires.
However, comparing this tire to the Kumho ECSTA 4X A/S tires on my son's Mazda 3, I would rate them at least as equals, and probably a bit better when below zero.
Additionally, using a regular rotation period of 5k miles, these tires demonstrate fantastic wear resistance. Currently at 19k miles and less than 50% wear. Very quiet on the freeway as well. The only negative is the braking and cornering traction in the wet should be a little higher.

These tires turned my Golf into a snow mobile. I've had zero problems driving on very treacherous roads in Belgium where they don't treat roads during or after snow/ice storms. They seem tough and handle the roughest roads well and most roads here are very narrow, not straight, and riddled with heaves and holes. I do not have studs installed on these tires.

Bought this tire anticipating the worst, but was pleasantly surprised all around. Don't expect it to handle the deep snow very well, however it's not a winter tire so that should not be a surprise. As long as you keep it off the unplowed road after a 5+ inch snow fall you will be good.
It was far quieter than the Continental's these replaced, but does seem a touch softer when cornering.
Overall, for the money, these are the best tires I have purchased.

I replaced my OE ContiProContact's at 36k miles after getting stuck in 6" of snow. These tires are just as quiet and proved increased traction in all weather conditions. In addition, the stiffer sidewalls greatly increase response, while not noticeably increasing harshness. I don't have enough mileage on the tires to comment on tire wear or fuel economy impact from switching to non LRR tires, but I would highly recommend these tires for a nice performance upgrade. They got me through a couple snow storms of 4-6" without too much drama, but they aren't a replacement for winter tires. They're more like a higher mileage summer tire with moderate winter capabilities, which is what I was looking for.

Well bought these tires after much research. Finally today I got try them out in some snow, and I have to say they are great. Only time I could get them to break traction is if forced them to when pulling out from a stop. Dry road traction is as good as summer tires and same goes for the wet road conditions.

These General Exclaim UHP tires are actually my second set purchased for my GTI 337. I was so impressed with my first set that replaced my factory Michelin Pilot Sports, that I felt compelled to do the same once again. I haven't had much time to really test this set yet given that I just installed them in December, and this has been a record setting snowfall this winter. This car and these tires aren't exactly snow ready. I am impressed how I managed to get around given 72 inches of snow so far this winter. I partly credit all of the features of my car like, electronic differential lock, traction control, ABS, and driver skills. I've been practicing all of my driving years in the snow. I wouldn't recommend it to the unskilled. The transition from my previous set of UHP's to the new set demonstrated a noticeable difference. Due to the full tread depth, hydroplaning resistance is spectacular again, along with wet traction, and ride quality. The dry traction, cornering limits, and steering responsiveness are lower than when well worn to eliminate tread squirm, but generally excellent all the same. I look forward to another spirited and agressive driving experience with these tires. I will keep you informed as always.
