I have over 220,000 miles on my Golf and have had Goodyear Eagle LS, BF Goodrich Traction TA (twice) and a Kuhmo tire (don't remember which one) and this Yokahama is BY FAR the best tire I've ever had on this car!
I cannot believe the traction it has in not only the wet, but the snow is really good. It feels like a full-blown snow tire to me.
Dry traction and handling is much better than any of the other tires I've had on the car. The sidewall doesn't roll-over during hard cornering (sorry, I'm a licensed SCCA driver so all of my cars go around corners quickly LOL).
Noise is hard to say, it's a 2000 VW Golf so it's not the quietest car to start with. Noise from the tires doesn't seem too bad at all.
All I can say is, this tire is night and day different than any of the other tires I've tried. You really should try them.

Wow. This tire tread looks to be fairly aggressive, and looks like it would probably not be good for the cold and snow. However, that sunflower oil in the compound really keeps this rubber pliable in the cold. In the warmer weather, this tire is smooth, responsive, fairly quiet, with just the slightest hint of vagueness on-center - you really have to be paying attention to notice it. In the snow, you can feel that the tires remain pliable, and that keeps traction even for a tire that does not have very aggressive sipes or grooves for snow. You get very little wheelspin in snow, and letting up on the go pedal or going easy on the clutch keeps the car moving in bad weather. Impressive.

For grand touring tires, these do well on the grand touring front, and respectably well in the cold. Even when it has been in the single digit temps recently, they are still pliable and grip in the slop. Pricey tires, but worth it.

Initial Review, 500 Miles on Tires
March 31, 2014

I just switched to the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 tires as I had my third blow out on a set of Kumho SPT tires in about 5K miles and 13 months. On two occasions I could not see any rhyme or reason for the blow outs. On the first occasion it was a nasty pot hole and I totally understand.

The Michelin's are absolutely amazing, in particular for the price point that they are at. I managed to put about 500 miles on them in 3 days in dry, wet, very wet, cold and light snow conditions. The tires just performed amazingly well. In the dry, the level of adhesion is beyond the other three sets of tires I had on this car (Bridgestones and Kumho). On the same on / off ramps, I am going about 15 MPH above the other two tires limit and these just keep on sticking! The breakaway characteristics are very linear and very predictable and in the GTI with its FWD very easy to manage. Even more impressive is their traction in the wet, where on a trip to upstate NY in the rain and heavy down pour, they did not hydroplane even once and I had to physically watch the speedometer as the confidence that these tires inspire can easily inspire one to go a lot faster than one should! There was light snow when we got to the mountains and in the light snow there was no issue whatsoever with traction or predictability.

The tires are soft to the touch but in the 50 or so miles of the dry back road twisties I went to and threw the car around, I could not see any tread-wear whatsoever. I have not seen that on any new tires that I have tried on any of my cars as I have always got them to grain a little bit in that type of spirited driving. The steering response is immediate and predictable and I can really toss this car around knowing what the tires are doing as they communicate the surface really well. They are the quietest tires I have ever had on any car and there were no harsh noises or jolts when going over expansion joints.

I wholeheartedly and without reservations recommend these tires.

I am ridiculously happy with these tires. They have been on the car for nearly 2.5 years and 35K miles. The DWS in the tread is still all visible; S is supposed to disappear first, indicating that snow use is not advised. Our WA freeways are pretty rough, so they are a little noisy, but on a smooth surface they are still very quiet. I have more issue with the wind noise from the ski box then with tire noise. I have only driven in light (2") and packed snow and I felt very confident. The Tiguan is kind of a GTI-inspired SUV, and the handling is crisp and responsive and the Contis enhance the driving experience. I like these so much I put them on the wife's G37x Infiniti in January. The OEM-supplied Dunlops tramlined severly; these have greatly reduced that symptom. Not enough time or miles yet to make additional comment.

Simply amazing! These summer tires lasted me two seasons and almost 50000km on all types of mountain highways and conditions from northern British Columbia to the southern tip of Arizona. I own a 2011 VW GTI and I love to drive fast especially in the corners. I bought the car new with a set of Pirelli all seasons on them but didn't care for them much. These Michelin tires were a huge upgrade and gave me the confidence to consistantly push the limit. Mind blowing stablility and control with no slippage except when cornering under the most extreme circumstances. There is some hydroplaning in very wet conditions but not enough to keep you from being the lead car...every time. There is some road noise for the first few thousand kilometers during the break in period but it becomes increasingly less noticeable. You really get to know your vehicle and your driving capabilities when you run these tires. I am a starving university student but I live for those long, summer roadtrips so the price for these tires is well worth living off of Kraft Dinner and hotdogs for a few more months. I will definitely be buying them again. Thank you Tirerack for providing us with the best selection and prices for the only shoes that really matter!

I also run Michelin Pilot Alpin in the winter which are also very good performance winter tires. Check em out!

I purchased this tires for replacement OEM tires which was also a Michelin MXV4, but of an earlier technology without the Green technology. The newer tire seems more premium in feel, treadwear and ride comfort. Tires has been through 2 winter seasons in Metro Detroit without much problem. Snow traction is not the greatest, but if driven carefully, not an issue during winter seasons. The tires' strength lies in its ride comfort, dry/wet weather handling and treadwear.

I can't express how impressed I am with these Dunlop tires. As a former Nokian Hakkapeliitta buyer, these Dunlop WinterMaxx tires perform at least as well in snow and ice, and they're priced much better than the "premium" winter tires out there. They handle well in wet or dry, and have been exceptional on snow & ice where my car would go when others were stuck during this tough winter. I have only 3 months so far on the tires all winter 2013-2014, so long-term wear (not usually a strong point of winter tires) isn't fully known though no excessive wear is evident at this point. I can confidently recommend these winter tires.

The good news: stiff sidewalls and they are pretty quiet. Bad news: POOR traction! I agree with a previous reviewer here that the tire is not great. Both wet and dry traction leave you wondering if this is how the tire should perform. I was surprised that I could spin the tire in dry weather, and wet weather traction is downright scary! You cannot push these tires at all. It's a shame that I own a sports sedan but can't drive it like one. I do not recommend these tires. My wife's 2010 Passat has Eagle GTs on it and they stick like glue to the road in ALL weather conditions, most notably in the rain. That was my first choice and I regret not buying them. I am highly dissatisfied with the Pirelli P6.

We went from a 4wd Jeep to a 2wd Jetta the day before we got our first big snowfall of the season. Blizzak WS70 tires on my Jetta took me places in snow I would go to only in my Jeep. It gave my wife a level of confidence of driving I have never seen in her before in her 15 years of winter driving. There is a lot of talk about the tire being loud, which I don't find it to be a loud tire. Regardless, if it was or gets loud, it would be the trade off of having superior traction in harsh environments. The tires handle the wet and standing water very well. The steering response is good, but not great. Another trade off for having superior traction when you need it. -you don't buy winter tires for steering response, you buy them for traction in the worst environments. Amazing tire.

Bought a set of Blizzaks for my daughter's New Beetle in November. Her first reaction was, these tires are great and I don't slide or spin anymore when it rains. Then she drove in the snow and was thrilled that the car ahead of her was spinning wheels trying to get up a hill and she didn't slide or spin once, just went right up the hill. With the winter we've had here in Maryland, this was the perfect winter to have a set of dedicated winter tires. And if SHE notices the difference, they have to be an incredible tire for winter driving. We will go back to all-seasons for spring, summer and fall, but these tires will be on my "snow" vehicles from December through March every year.

I made 3000 miles with this tire. My wife drives this car, but I use it when we go to ski together. I went from 235/50 R18 which is OEM for SEL model to 215/65 R16 for winter. It was good decision. I went with this tire, because I wanted hardcore winter tire for this car. My VW CC is equipped with Bridgestone LM-60 (and they perform extremely well).
Anyway, on Tiguan, due to the AWD, these tires are just going forward with gusto. So far no issues, driving on snow packed roads, went through 3ft of snow: no issue!
If you need tire to go to ski, for lot of snow, ice, slush: this is tire for you.
Be aware: This tire is extremely soft, which is good for ice, snow. However, if you live in states where there is no much snow, but have black ice, maybe Michelin X Ice 3 would be better, since it has better dry capabilities. WS 70 is good tire, but on dry you can feel all that softness.

Most reviews of the P Zero tire seem to come from owners of sporty cars and from residents of northern states (why? this tire is not for winter driving!). Here in Florida, on our VW Tiguan we get the performance and traction we expect, though wet surfaces do slightly challenge this tire. At 48K miles I estimate we still have 10K left on the tread. Overall, a tire that lives up to our expectations of a summer tire.

These are probably the best tires I've ever owned. The snow and ice traction is phenomenal. They are definitely better than the Blizzaks we have on our Minivan - and I thought those were great until I got these. One thing that has really been great is the road noise - or lack thereof. Very quiet on dry roads, again compared to the blizzaks.

Timing of the change was coincident with the snow and cold weather. These tires are doing great in the snow and ice. So far these tires have been fantastic, but really need another 30k miles to say just how good the tires are.

I live on the prairies in Canada where the temps are averaging -25* Dec - March. We get lots of snow and lots of ice in town and on the highways. I bought the car in May and this was the first winter. I was nervous to use these tires as everyone here has winter tires due to our conditions. I was blown away by the traction and grip these tires have! I cant speak to what they would be like after, say 30000miles, but now they are great. I still most likely will purchase winter tires largely due to not wanting to ruin my good rims.

Overall I think they are great and I drive in some severe cold, snow, ice and slush 6 months of the year!

I couldn't get up my driveway with the street tires. On goes the Blizzak's and it's like driving on dry pavement. Great snow / ice tire. The car feels a little loose on dry pavement and gas mileage has dropped off a hair but I would expect that vs. a high performance street tire. Great product. Do yourself a favor and switch to snow / ice tires if you want the comfort of feeling safe during the winter months.

I read the reviews of this tire and have to laugh when people say they are weak in the dry traction area. I drive VERY spirited through tight mountain roads and they are fantastic. They out preform the Michelin, Kumho, and Continental sport tires hands down. These things stick like glue and lose traction very predictably. If you have trouble with traction or ultimate grip with these tires it is NOT the tires lol. My son runs the DZ 1, I know it is a softer compound then the 101, on and his M3 suspension binds before his tires lose grip. He has run both and had the same experience I had. I bought them on this site and am thinking about getting them again for another car. They do not last as long as the others I mentioned but that is the trade off for the grip you get. My "5" means average my "10" means exceeds expectations.

I live in Rochester, NY and we have some severe winter storms with lake effect snow. These tires are fantastic in the snow. I have tremendous confidence while driving in the snow with these tires. My other concern when purchasing them is that they would be noisy. These tires are incredibly quiet and no noisier than my all seasons.

If you need good winter tires get these!
