Initial Review, 12907 Miles on Tires
January 02, 2012

I purchased these Hankook tires to replace summer performance tires installed by prior owner. My purchase decision was based on good reviews by other owners and the price (almost $100 less than competition per tire even before added rebate), although I was not familiar with the brand. I used them for 2 seasons (June-Dec & April-Dec), totaling 14 months and 12,907 miles, mostly commuting to work on highway. I drive fast and like a high performance tire that takes full advantage of my quattro handling. I was not disappointed with these tires. They stick to the road, and performed well in wet and dry conditions. And the road noise was quiet, which is important in the summer when the top is down. My only complaint is the treadwear, which is probably the worst of any tire I have had before, including winter tires. I would have hoped to get a third season out of these tires, but they were down to being slicks and I had to change over to winter tires.

When I compared this to the mileage and cost of my high-performance winter tires (Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D XL tires), the Hankook's actually went almost 22 miles per purchase dollar versus 19.5 miles for my Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D XL winter tires--that 2.5 miles further for every dollar spent. Perhaps more of an apples and orange comparison, but the comparison helped me determine whether I received my money's worth considering I paid less than the leading brands, but experienced a short treadlife. Given the results, I might give these another try if the price is still aggressively competitive comes the spring.
