Initial Review, 4000 Miles on Tires
June 13, 2010

O.E. tire on 2010 Cobalt SS/TC. Tire is at all times predictable. Dry traction stellar at 75 degrees F and I've seen reviews that say it gets better as it heats up. Definitely a summer tire. Minor flat spot vibration on cool mornings until you put a mile or two on them (@35mph). Wet anti spin traction is a little disappointing but that could be more the typically Puget Sound temp when raining in the spring than anything. At 7/32nd's tread depth the tires has worn with troubling rapidity in my 4,000 on them but man-oh-man do these things feel great under duress. I was a huge fan of the Eagle GTs I put on my SOB 9-5 but it really couldn't generate juice the way this Cobalt can. But when you turn the screws on the ContiSport2's driving twisty roads, they communicate very, VERY well, are impressively stable, and retain an unbelievable (to me at the speeds I've dared trying) level of fine directional adjustment control. The lateral g force sensors in my car indicate that I am pulling .95 g left and right. Accounting for sensor calibration its probably as these cars test out, but when I decide its time to drive, I find some lonely twisties and keep that g meter in the red. Hydroplaning resistance is good at the current tread depth I intend to replace these tires with Goodyear Eagle GTs when they wear out and if the variance in driving dynamics favor the Conti, I'll let you know. I am pretty good about follow-ups.
