Initial Review, 1200 Miles on Tires

Take my wet traction rating with a grain of salt. I have driven in lots of heavy rain with these tires & they feel stable but I do not push it. No hydroplaning even in heavy rain commutes many times during the past month or so.

I've had these tires for 3 months now. I've driven them in the dry in temps down to the upper 20s. I have experienced no problems braking or turning in the cold temps, but I take it easy until they have a chance to warm up a little. But they do feel hard (in terms of ride comfort) when the temperature drops into the 40s or lower (until they warm up some).

A few weeks after getting them, I entered my first PCA autocross event. The high that day was about 40 degrees. Temps were in the mid 30s at the start. I did not feel like I had much grip during my first few runs, but I was a noob so that was certainly a factor (although other drivers complained about a lack of grip too early in the event). My times picked up steadily throughout the day though. I shaved about 9 or ten seconds off my time through ten runs. The course included some relatively high speeds (~70 mph slaloms) as well as the technical part of a road course. As the ambient temp warmed a few degrees and the sun shined upon the course, it seemed like I could push the car harder and harder and that the tires were suddenly eager for more. At that point, the understeer inherent in the car seemed to limit me through the turns long, not the grip of the tires.

I am looking forward to another autocross in a few weeks, and possibly a HPDE in about a month with these tires. In the meantime, I am having to arrange alternate transportation (i.e. borrowing my wife's E39) for a business trip in a few days since there is a good chance for wintry precip along my route.

If you want solid rubber at all four corners for touring/street duty, & autocross &/or hpde, I highly recommend these. This is more tire than necessary for simply driving the roads at legal speeds.
