Follow-Up Review: 50,000 miles on tires
January 20, 2014
In fairness to this follow up review. I have only rotated these tires 2 or 3 times over the past 50k miles. I keep these tires inflated between 35 & 37 lbs.

I now have approximately 50,000 miles on these tires in a little over 2 1/4 years. They are rated for 70,000 miles.

My Problem is they dont seem so safe anymore. . Although my Outlook still rides decently on the highway the ride is not what it was when I gave my last review @ 31000 miles.

During City driving (large % of my driving) I loose traction while turning and cornering on dry roads. On some roads, quick starts from a stopped position cause the tires to spin. Wet roads are an adventure when starting from a stopped position or accelerating around corners.

Last winter with somewhere in the vicinity of 40k mi on these tires. I drove thru 2-3 inches of snow and felt very safe. No slipping or sliding. This is why I gave a high mark for light snow traction because the last time I drove in Snow was about a yr ago when the tires performed much better @ 40k miles. Now with an additional 10k miles on them I dont think I'd feel safe at all.

I have a 900 mile trip scheduled in just over a month from now. (thru Blue Ridge Mountains) Cant chance it with these tires.

They were GREAT tires for about 40000 miles and then started to regress.

@ well over $200 per tire, I wont be purchasing them again.

Maybe another rotation or two would have helped extend the life and quality of these tires.
Initial Review: 31,000 miles on tires
January 08, 2013

Terrific tires. Came new on the 2008 Outlook XE FWD which I purchased used in 2011. Smooth, quiet ride. Never had a problem on rainy wet roads. Usually we get a few ice or snow events here in the SC upstate. But as of purchasing my Outlook. I Havent had the opportunity to drive in snow or ice.

Summers here in SC can be very long and Temperatures in the 90's can last for months. Tires take a beating from the heat. I've never had a set of tire's that reached their life expectancy. But the Tread on these tires seems to be holding its own with over 31,000 miles on them. Should easily get another 30-40k miles.

I like them a lot. What I dont like is the Price. With prices ranging up to and well over $200 per tire. But if I can get 60-70k miles out of them. I think they'd be worth purchasing another set.

I've had three sets of Firestone Destination LE on my Expedition and each set had little to no tread left before they hit 50,000 miles. With the worsts set barely making 40k miles. As I said earlier. Summer heat wreaks havoc on tires here in the upstate.
