I have a vintage Pontiac Firebird with original 14 inch steel rally wheels as my daily driver (12,000/yr). In 205/70R14 there is almost no selection left and nothing with a legitimate speed rating (H-speed or higher). While they are only 'T' speed rated (which doesn't say much) they were the only tires in this size with an 'A' temperature rating - unheard of in this speed rating class. That at least suggests a stronger and better tire than the typical so-called S or T speed rated junk. Encouraged that they had the A temperature rating (and have no better option to consider) I tried them almost 6 years and 70,000 miles ago.
Waaaaay better than any tires this old car had worn in recent memory! Not exactly an autocross tire but overall performance was very competent. Dry traction has been great. Wet traction has also been good, only started trailing off a little in the last 10,000. Reasonably quiet. Sidewall flex is a little bit much but then it is a 70 series tire and I could not find any better options. Tread life has been fantastic hitting 70,000 miles! I could have probably squeezed another 5,000 or 7,500 but it was getting close to the wear indicators and wet traction was beginning to diminish due to lack of tread depth. Based on past experience the BFG Radial TA is purely for cosmetics by comparison and otherwise isn't in the league of the Altimax RT and yet it's more expensive.
In 205/70R14 at least it is THE tire to get. I'm almost wondering why it didn't achieve an H speed rating.
