Initial Review, 40,000 Miles on Tires
The tires have been used on my 2006 VW Jetta TDI for approximately 40k. I have read all the reviews specific to this Continental Extreme DSW tire. Personally, this tire is the best performance "all season" tire for THIS car. However, having said that, I will tell you that I base my air pressure on the "tire" manufactures suggestioned recommendations -up to 51 psi and NOT the car manufacturer. I run with 43 psi in my tires and do NOT experiense the sidewall flexing some say exists with the tire. I blast through standing puddles and lake type puddles without a problem. I go on and through snow with no problem and go around cars in snow like it is dry pavement. Again, it maybe due to the "car" characteristics i.e. low, solid, feels wide stance etc. The only complaint I would have is the tire tread longevity but really, to obtain the kind of handling in wet, dry and snow this tire will give you, different softer type compound has to be used by the manufacturer. Because I treasure the best all round tire to be on my car, I will choose this tire again because my research does not show at this time another tire exists that is better in the area of wet, dry, cornering and snow like this tire. As a matter of fact, it's time to buy my 16 year old daughter tires on her 2005 Chevy Cobalt and this is what I will order. I'll be right behind her in the replacement of these tires on my VW Diesel that keeps on going strong.
