I purchased this tire after extensive research. I was replacing the OEM tires that came with the vehicle. I was originally looking at ultra-high performance tires, as I wanted to maintain the Mazda's quick handling and stability. However, I also wanted to find a balance of performance and tread-life, which put me into the Grand Touring Category.
I will admit, at first I wasn't sure I liked the tires. I was used to the Mazda being very firm and these tires made it feel much softer and smoother. Normally this is a good thing, however I was concerned this had compromised the handling of the car. After a few weeks I found the tires to actually have much better grip than the OEM tires they replaced. Traction was quite impressive and I found I was much more confident taking corners.
If you want a quiet and smooth tire that absorbs impacts while still being responsive, this tire is excellent. It is the quietest and smoothest tire I have EVER owned. I cannot overstate this. It is incredibly quiet. This may be because I've tended to own noisier tires, but it sure surprised me. I also found it to be very very smooth. Roads where I used to notice every bump were now not nearly as rough. And surprisingly around town, I found the tire to be very responsive.
There were two issues I noticed. One is that it seems to float a bit on grooved highways when going about 55 mph. Not to an extent where it pulled the car, just enough to be noticeable every now and then. This could also just be that I'm not used to a tire that is so smooth. The other issue was I noticed a humming noise on the highway at first, however this noise quickly went away after the first couple hundred miles of driving. I haven't heard it since then.
I have not had a chance to fully test the tires on wet surfaces yet. I will update once I have a chance. I will also update once the snow starts coming down.
