This is my 3rd set of General Altimax Arctic snow tires. Live in the foothills west of Golden, CO, up a canyon and off on a steep gravel county road. I have to work real hard at getting these tires to spin in packed snow or plowed roads conditions. They just grip and GO! Plus they have excellent stopping grip. I do have to be careful stopping so cars behind do not get too close. I seem to be able to out-brake most other vehicles. I leave them on all year on my Forester since they wear so well and do fine on dry roads and rain/mud. I find them to be a great tire value for their cost level. I hope they keep making them.

LOVE these tires. Finally splurged and got a dedicated set of winter tires and I'm so happy I did. For the first year of ownership I just drove with OEM Yoko Geolanders and honestly I was questioning my reasoning for buying a Subaru - I did not like the snow/ice capabilities of that tire at all (there were a couple times where I just slid straight when trying to turn). However these new tires are amazing. Here in VT they take their sweet time clearing the roads when big storms hit, yet I feel confident and safe taking my car for a spin if need be. I plowed right through 10" fresh snow no problem on our street before the plows came through. Great traction and I have no worries when I travel home from work (45 mins) during a storm. Heck, I prefer taking the back roads now rather than the highway and enjoy the calm scenery and spirited trek home. Will definitely be purchasing another set once these are used up, great tire for New England winter conditions, especially when paired w/ my trusty AWD Subaru.

Astonishing snow and ice performance, degradation of handling compared to OEM tires seems moderate. Considering the size change from the original tires (205/50-17 vs 195/65-15 for the snows) I expected clear road handling to be worse impacted, I'm pleasantly surprised. I will most likely stick to the Michelin X-ice line in the future, completely satisfied and would recommend highly.

put these on and drove from Austin to Boise and back before breaking them in. The trip included 90 degree dry pavement, rain, sleet, ice, deep offroad snow (to the bell housing), offroad dirt and mud, and highway snow (shallow 1-2"). Drove them through an ice storm up ramps with large trucks and 4x4's with normal street tires stuck. the most remarkable thing is my AWD system has not kicked in since i've put these tires on! impressive. I will definitely buy these again. Oh yeah, and I get 1-2 mpg more than my stock tires gave me. nice...

Tires are basically brand new but from the minute I got in the car and drove away I knew I made the best decision I could have buying these tires. We immediately took a trip from our town of St. Michaels Md. to Washington D C and it was pure bliss. The car felt, and sounded, like a new car again. Absolutely the best tire I have ever rolled on. Quiet, and I mean quiet, comfortable, and responsive to every urging of the steering wheel.
I obviously can not comment on tread wear yet but I am pretty confident, well, hopefull. It would be a shame if the tread wear was lacking when everything else about this tire is so stellar.
Response was great. The car responded immediately to the steering wheel, not having the usual delay of new tires with the increased tread squirm delay. Driving in D C can be a challenge at times and one is often forced to make some very last minute decisions and moves in traffic and as always I was forced to execute several of these and the tires performed like a Dall Sheep high in the Rockies, so sure footed and always under complete control. I expect them to only get better with a little break in. My wife could even tell a difference and believe me, if she noticed a difference, there is a BIG difference. She also commented on the quietness of the tires, so again, big difference.
These are the very first Pirelli tires we have ever had and I have to say, we are very impressed.

I was torn between these tires and and the Firestone Winterforce. I had the Winterforce tires on another vehicle of mine which was a Buick Lesabre the Winterforce made my Lesabre a tank in the snow I always felt safe and in control in any winter driving condition but the tires had to be switched out after winter. I wanted a winter tire that had some all season characteristics so I took a chance on these Goodyears and was immediately impressed they were quieter than the BF Goodrich tire that I had just taken off the car the sidewall is softer than an all-season tire but that is to be expected. I previously had Michelin's winter ice tires on this car for twice the cost the only thing I can say that was better about the Michelins they had a stiffer sidewall. These Goodyear tires so far have more then met my expectations. We have been hammered with lots of snow and sub zero temps in Minnesota this year and the Goodyears have performed flawlessly. I can't recommend these tires enough!

The Subaru's all-wheel drive probably played a big part but these Pirellis are so far the best winter tires I've tried. Even better than Bridgestone Blizzaks that I've had on other Subarus, which themselves were excellent winter tires. The Pirellis have fantastic grip on packed snow and slush. The only time I experienced slight wheel spin was on glare ice. I also commend Tire Rack on their quickness of delivery. It usually took a few days on previous orders but this time I placed my order early afternoon one day and UPS delivered the following day. Can't get any better than that.

Purchased these tires thru TireRack to replace the P Zero Nero's on the X3 when I bought it used. (96K miles, now at 103K after 4 months!) We took the X on a 1200-mile road trip with the Pirellis still on it, then changed to the PA31s just before the winter driving season. (Oregon allows AWD passenger vehicles with M&S tires to opt out of chains when otherwise required, but I wanted new, deep tread to feel comfortable!) Driving away from the tire shop after the changeover, the difference in the feel became apparent at the curb, pulling onto the street/highway. Literally. The ride with the M Sport package was expected to be firm, even downsized to 235/50-18, but with the Pirellis it was still pretty jarring. This tire was instantly more comfortable, both from a ride and noise standpoint. Road trip to San Diego (2000 miles R/T) was very smooth, and the tires were equally at home at 80 on the freeway and through sweeping curves. Absolutely no tramlining on grooved pavement, which we hit several times on that trip. The first snow of the year was followed by very cold air, which kept snow on the ground for a week -- very unusual for this area, but a great chance to try out the tire and the AWD on the X3. Both excellent in over 6" of snow. Not Blizzaks, to be sure, but I was pleasantly surprised with test stops, up to activating the ABS. Haven't measured tread depth after 6K miles but still look and feel very good. I was nervous about buying Kumho for this demanding an application, but have since bought a set for my son's Subaru, and will consider for other vehicles as well. Pretty unbeatable for the money.

We only have about 2000 miles on these tires but they are a huge improvement over the previous Continental Extreme contact DWS. The biggest improvement is the decrease in road noise. The Mazda 3 is a loud car on the highway, I believe, due to a lack of sound deadening but these new Pirelli tires make the it far better than before. The traction in the dry is great and we have yet to test them in snow. Stand by for an update., but very happy so far and we will be putting these tires on the Subaru Outback too!

I have owned 2 sets of these...first set for a Subaru WRX and now my Nissan Rogue-AWD. We live in the "Snow-belt" region of NY state above Syracuse on the Tug Hill. As a result we get much snow EVERY winter. These are the BEST snow tires I have ever owned. I have Blizzaks on my AWD car due to the fact I could not get the right size in the Altimax. The Blizzaks are good, but these are that much better. Do yourself a favor---these are less expensive than most, will wear well and will make an AWD vehicle a true "snow beast"!

In the recent snow storm they performed very well in in ice, snow and slush. They also drive very well on dry roads. I highly recommend these tires.

Stock Tire, silent, good tread wear, stable in light snow and ice. My wife drove this during Feb 2014 winter storm in Virginia and she said it wobbled a little bit when she's driving downhill but corrected with gentle braking. Will definitely buy 4 same stock tire from Continental when it's time to replace the tires.

These tires are excellent for winter-rated rubber on dry and wet roads, with progressive and predictable traction loss as you approach their limit while cornering. They are plenty capable of propelling my Subaru Legacy 2.5GT through over a foot of snow, although they are obviously aided by the AWD system's viscous limited slip differentials in this task. At speed, they maintain traction and stability through slush and shallow snow on the road.

On light snow and ice, they brake well but not as well as a fully dedicated snow/winter tire. This is to be expected, however, as these are designed for performance cars in areas with milder winters, where snows happens but infrequently. The trade off is far superior dry and wet traction than fully dedicated winter tires, with handling and braking comparable to some summer tires. Steering response compared to a summer tire is noticeably slower, due to the softer winter rubber compound.

Regardless, these will allow you to enjoy your car throughout the winter months without sacrificing much of the handling, braking, and cornering enjoyed on summer tires during the rest of the year. I highly recommend them, and they are a great deal for the price.

I haven't had the tires long enough to know how they will hold up but my initial impression is extremely positive. I ordered them on a Tuesday as we were getting a bad winter storm that coming weekend, mounted them on Thursday and that Saturday/Sunday we got over a foot of snow. Personally I thought they were better than the OEM which cost more than twice the price. Through repeated bad snow and ice storms I have never had a problem, even on unplowed roads. They are very quite on dry roads and have very good wet traction as well. I haven't found myself doubting the tires.

These are great tires. I have been waiting for snow to see how they do and just had the opportunity. They did a great job! it handled well, no sliding or loss of traction and went around many cars who were stuck. I selected these tires based on the snow rating and found it was great. Even though we don't get much snow in Bellevue, WA when we do the conditions can be bad and for drives it can be a challenge. This past snow was bout 2" and it was below freezing so under the snow was ice. The tires drove through the snow very easily and when I was caught going up an incline where other cars were stuck or sliding I just drove around them with no traction issues. The tires are a little noisy but so far I would highly recommend them.

I have this tire mounted front and back on a 2012 Impreza (AWD). The tires have greatly increased my car's handling in ice and snow. I have never slipped for more than a half second during a turn or quick braking on snowpacked/icy roads in the high country, regardless of speed. The Xi3 have make me feel safer when driving in poor winter conditions, and have let me go skiing when the snow is falling fast. Getting the car going in snow was never much of a problem, but the improved braking and handling in bad road conditions make these tires a winter-must. Highly recommended.

I rotate my tires properly every 4-5k miles and I check the tread every so often and they seem to be wearing at a normal rate. No issues at all. Its a solid tire all around folks. If your looking for a super grippy, stiff tire for street racing and auto x then keep looking. This tire is perfect for all-weather driving as well as some aggressive driving:) Dont listen to all the negative reviews. If you rotate your tires and keep them inflated properly then you will have no issues with these kooks!

I bought these tires a month ago to replace tires damaged by road debris. These are by FAR the best tires I've had on this car, including OEM Potenzas, Kumho Solus KH16, two sets of General Altimax HP. The General's were pretty good, but wore fast and did not corner/brake on snow well. These Pirelli's are amazing. The car is noticeably quieter and rides smoother -- it's like a new car. We have had a snowy winter so far in CT so I have had many chances to test these on snow and ice. I have had snow tires on other cars that didn't perform this well. Truly impressive. Yesterday I drove up the steep hill to my house on 8 inches of unplowed, unsalted snow without so much as a slip. A Subie and these tires is unstoppable! Very, very happy with this purchase... would buy again in a heartbeat.
