After taking a few months off to rest up after the 2010 Tire Rack SCCA Solo Nationals, it’s time for Project STR Mazda MX-5 to head south for the winter. Leaving behind the snow and cold temperatures of Northern Indiana, we’re headed to Florida for the 2010 Performance Racing Industry trade show in Orlando later this week. This car isn't a trailer queen, so we're driving it all the way.Today we have five inches of lake effect snow already on the ground, with more on the way. The Extreme Performance Summer tires we’ve been driving and racing on aren’t designed to work in the snow (and may even crack from below-freezing temperatures), so we opted to fit a set of Continental ExtremeWinterContact Studless Ice and Snow winter tires for the 20-hour drive.

Look for our MX-5 on display at the show. And be sure to stop by the Grassroots Motorsports display in booth No. 1314.

*Travel Update*
750 miles miles from Tire Rack HQ has the car looking a little rough. We'll have to get the MX-5 detailed with Griot's Garage car care products before we roll it onto the show floor.
