Muscle Car Tires

Friday, August 20, 2010 by Steve Huffman
Got American muscle you're restoring? Looking to bring back the retro look with period-correct tires and raised white letters? Tire Rack has you covered. Last week I was watching one of the car auctions on TV and couldn't help but pay attention to what tires were on the cars.

One muscle car after another either had the BF Goodrich Radial T/A, the Goodyear Eagle GT II or the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500. Each of these white letter tires come in a variety of 14- and 15-inch sizes for the Chevelles, Novas, Camaros, Mustangs and other muscle cars. These tires are always in demand and look great, too.

I too love the retro look, plus it looks a little flasy when driving. I purchased the Firehawk Indy 500 for my 1979 Camaro Z28. I'm quite happy with them.

Hi Fred,

Well we are a mail order company so we can ship the tires anywhere you like. We also have recommended installers all around the country. Send me an email at steve@tirerack.com, if you would like to know who is in your area.

I have a 2012 mustang V6 auto. I'm looking for tires withe raised white lettering but can't find in my size. P214 65R 17. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks, Joe
Friday, December 2, 2011 by steve:
Sorry Joe, but I'm not aware of any tire manufacturers that make a tire in this size with raised white letters. You're mostly going to find them in 14"-16" sizes.

I'm seeing that the Goodyear tires are only available in 20in wheel diameter sizes? This seems odd for a "Muscle car" tire. Are those really the only sizes that tire is available in?

I have a 1969 Corvette Convertible 427 and I am looking for a set of Goodyear Eagle GTII Raised White Letter tires F70x15 , 205/70x15 or 215/70R. Are these tires still available?

do they even make eagle gt 2's white letters? can't find only black walls. 215/65r/15

David,
The only tire I will have in any of those sizes with raised white letters will be the BF Goodrich or the Firestone in a 217-70-15. Unfortunately no Goodyears.

Terry,
The only white letter tires in this size are the BF Goodrich or the Firestone.

Steve: time for a new set of RWL tires for my 69 Camaro, which I drive regularly in GA. Wish you guys had done a tire test of these 3 options. Lacking that, which would you recommend as the highest performance tire of the 3? Thanks.
Saturday, March 17, 2012 by Steve:
Hi Don, I wish we could do testing on these as well. But according to the Customer Survey results, the Firestone is the highest rated, followed by the BFG. Hope this helps.

I am looking for a 16 inch wheel to fit my 2005 Mustang GT Coupe. Are there any available that you know of?
Wednesday, April 25, 2012 by steve:
Hi Cliff,
Unfortunately we don't know of any 16" wheel that will fit. I believe the brakes are too large on the GT. Only 17" and larger.
