Chrysler Town & Country Tires

Friday, October 22, 2010 by Steve Huffman
The popular 2008 Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan are probably due for new tires. In 2008, most of these vans were originally equipped with either the 16" Yokohama AVID S33 or the 17" Bridgestone Turanza EL400-02. These tires suffer from the same symptoms as most O.E .tires. They just don't offer very good traction and they wear out very quickly. I feel there are better tires to consider when its time to replace them.

A few of my favorites for this van include the 16" General AltiMAX HP or Michelin Primacy MXV4. If you have the 17" size I would suggest either the Michelin Latitude Tour or the Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza

Each of these tires have excellent all-season traction, are very smooth and quiet and should last much longer than the O.E. models.

I have an 08 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT with trailer tow & 17-inch wheels. The General Grabber HTS looks like a good option to me even tho its characterized as a light truck/SUV tire. Can you see any reason it wouldn't be a good choice? We live in north AL and get light snow but mostly rain.

I have a 1998 Chrysler town&country and I'm trying to find out whats the biggest tire I can put on it?

dgl,

Assuming this is on the stock 16 x 7 inch wheel, the largest size you can use is a 235/60-17

I have a 2012 Chrysler Town & Country Touring-L and I'm trying to find out whats the biggest and best winter tire I can comfortably put on it?

Hi Ray,

In response to your question, the biggest size you could use is 235-60-17. But the best size for winter would be the stock size. The best winter tire in that size is the Bridgestone Blizzak WS-70.

Hello,

I have a 2012 Town & Country Limited, would I be able to put a 225-70-16 tire without issue, or do I need to stick to 17" stock size? Thanks!

Hi Bob,
Unfortunately 16" will not fit on the Limited models.

I have a 2012 Chrysler T&C van I purchased new on 2012. It is the Touring and it came with 16" wheels. All info online says these vans come with 17" wheels. Did they, and could the dealer switched the wheels?

Don, our records do show that some touring models did come with 16" wheels. While the dealer could have switched them, this is not common.

We had a 2008 Town and Country that had 16" wheels that I had bought a set of snow tire/wheels for. We just traded up to a 2012 Touring-L that has 17" wheels. Anyone have any guess on if I can use my 16" wheels on it? Considering that the standard Touring version has 16" wheels, I can't imagine that they used completely different brake/hub hardware that would prevent me.

Marc, while these two vehicles do seem to use very similar wheel and tire equipment, it would be best to discuss your fitment issue with one of our sales specialists. We would be happy to pull up your previous order with us and check fitment against the new van. We can be reached at 800-428-8355. -- marshall@tirerack.com

2008 Chrysler Town and Country. My question has been discussed above, but I just want to clarify something: My van came with the 17 inch wheels. Will 16 inch wheels + tires fit/clear the brakes for seasonal (winter) use?
