After 12 years of all season tires on a 2001 Prelude, I purchased the Winterforce pre-mounted and balanced on steel wheels. These things grip like asphalt magnets!! Almost frustrating to drive in snow now! Everyone else is creeping along like they're driving in snow. I live on the edge of the city at the top of a hill. Too many times I had to take a run to get to the top, and sometimes didn't. The worst part of my drive was thinking about the last 1/4 mile on the home drive. They're quiet and the ride is excellent. I can't say enough about this tire. I went straight off the recommendation, and got the black hubcaps. Everyone thinks I got new black wheels, they even look great! Thanks Tire Rack. You guys are great! These things will drive up the side of a building. I can't remember the tire losing grip. Push the pedal, and they bite. Pull the trigger on these now. You won't be sorry.

Purchased these to replace Bridgestone 960A/S that lasted 73000 and no longer had tread depth for any snow. The Conti DWS tires really offer a far superior winter experience. In icy slush last night I had no wheel slippage on fairly steep hills. Something the 960A/S could never have done even when new. The trade off is in dry handling: I notice more roll in turns and less on center feel. So far tire seems to be a little quieter. Overall very happy and after experiencing the winter performance would highly recommend.

Bought this car new. Tires rotated per owners manual and they became LOUD at 20k miles. Sounds like a wheel bearing gone bad, but it's the tires. They grip well, decent in rain and snow and wear pretty well. They are just really noisy. Will go with another brand when these are done.

I've been a long time skeptic of all season tires. Having spent a decade switching between dedicated summer and snow/winter wheel sets, I decided to give the DWS a try. My previous set of A/S tires, RE960 AS's were a huge disappointment. The dry weather in early January gave ample opportunities to test traction and stability and although the DWS' are a little less responsive than say the SportContacts it's certainly enough for a small AWD sedan. The snow storms in February/March however have made me a believer. Braking on snow is as expected. Ice performance is as well (since nothing is "great" on ice, "OK" performance is acceptable. The light/heavy snow traction though is what impressed me. This does have something to do with the fact that I drive an AWD with a manual transmission, but the tires rocked the snowy roads. I actually found myself detouring down unplowed streets just to keep the smile on my face!

Went from 205/45/17 run flats which are horrible tires. you feel every crack on the pavement and the ride is terribly noisy. i wanted to address the ride comfort first and foremost and put a bit more beef in the side wall by going to a 205/50/17. No exageration but the ride is like that of a Town Car. And very quiet. The steering feels softer but that should be expected. No rubbing on the wheel wells by going from a 45 to 50 profile. Can't wait to try it on rain and snow. If you hate the ride of your Mini Cooper S get these tires you wont regret it.

I just went through a winter that delivered record snowfalls and the tires performed as I had hoped they would - excellent. I drive in deep snow all the time and despite driving a high performance rear-wheel drive car, I had no problems driving on ice and deep snow on a regular basis. I put them to the test while driving through the Adirondacks in a blizzard after a day of skiing Whiteface...the tires got me through 6-8 inches of snow on the icy roads without a problem...even the step hills and sharp turns...outstanding winter tire fit for my car. I know winter and I love winter driving..great recommendation Tire Rack

Best tires I've ever used for the specific purpose of putting rubber on a family vehicle. Approaching 5 years and more than 50,000 miles on this one set of tires. I'm just over 1/16" from the wear bars, so this will be their last year of service, and it's been great service. Hot summers heavily loaded family road trips, towing a boat on windy & hilly roads, rain, snow, ice, these Primacy's did it all.

Dry grip: It's a 2003 Honda Odyssey, so it is not a sports car by any means, but if a tire can make a 2.2-ton box on wheels handle commendably, that is just great, and the Primacy MXV4 does this very well.

Dry and wet braking: Great on all accounts. I have been forced into using maximum anti-skid braking a couple times, and the Michelins helped haul the vehicle down to safe speed with no drama every time.

Snow and ice: Not great in deep snow, but they work. Ice traction is on par with any other all-season tire.

Wet grip: Very good. Predictable at the limits, not that I push that in a minivan on wet roads, but when I have the tires only grudgingly give up grip in stages with no surprises.

Noise: The Odyssey is pretty noisy to begin with, but these were quieter than the stock Michelin Symmetry's, and as good as the highly regarded Yokohama YK520's we previously used on another van, and the Michelin's were better all-around tires.

If you are driving a rear wheel drive car like my camaro and it snows where you live get a set for the winter driving. Took my pirelli stock tires off due to slipping and sliding on the smallest amount of snow and put the scorpions on and WOW!!!! huge difference no slipping or sliding at all. Went thru 6" of snow with no problem the Ice is very good as well due to the siping on the tread. Would have liked to be able to stud them but cant. One bad thing they are louder than the all season tires particularly on rough roads.Cornering is a little less stable than the all seasons as well. If it snows get a set ASAP!

 

When Should I Take Off My Winter / Snow Tires?

Recently, the following question was posted on one of the BMW forums I moderate: "It's getting close to spring time, and I am just wondering when everyone puts their summer wheels/tires on? I live in Ohio, so I was thinking of putting mine on during the first week of April. Any thoughts? In Cleveland, you never know when the winter will permanently end.

Yes, it's difficult to believe the calendar says another winter season has ended, but that doesn't mean your winter tires have been removed. I'm often asked when is the best time to swap winter / snow tires out for all-season or summer tires? My advice is to wait until the threat of snow is gone. Many are tempted to take off their winter tires early because of an unseasonably warm weekend. However, it's important to remember why you purchased your snow tires in the first place: safety! Is it really worth taking the chance of getting caught in a late-season snowstorm just to have your "fun" tires on a week or two sooner? 

 

 

 

 

 

If you own a set of all-season tires, you should make the change when low temperatures are consistently above freezing each night and the longer term forecast is showing the same. Getting caught in an early spring dusting shouldn't be an issue as all-season tires can still provide traction in light snow.

Summer performance tires are at their best when it's warmer, as they provide almost no traction in snow. If your area tends to have such unpredictable late freezes, put off the changeover a little longer than you would with all-seasons.

Update to previous 4,000 mile review. A phenomenal tire, and I can see none rated better that I would buy. Exceptional in dry and wet conditions, even heavy rain. Good in light to deep snow, but fair in icy conditions. Have maybe 5-10,000 miles of tread left now that I've put on 50,000. Quiet, smooth, what we all would expect a good tire to be.

Interestingly, I work in construction. My previous Continental Cross Contacts which I loved, had a number of flats from picking up nails, etc. None with this tire, which is either coincidence, or signs of better tire composition, which I believe it is. Continental has none in this size, so I will buy this tire again.

This winter, I looked at the tread and had concerns about winter driving on worn tread. But, decided to stick it out and tires performed SURPRISINGLY well.

My Toyota V8 all wheel drive limited has the best of everything, and these tires meet my expectations. Mileage in summer averages 18.4, and less in winter due to gas reformulation.

Highly recommended for those who appreciate quality, safety and consistency. But, if you live where ice and snow abound all winter, you may want to consider winter tires, but these are more than able to take on CT winters. Best to you all.

I use these on my 4 wheel drive winter/ off road truck and with these tires driving in the snow barely affects the traction i get. It is just like driving in normal conditions. Even in mud and gravel i feel plenty of traction. A great tire in every day driving conditions as well. If you're looking for great all terrain tires these are the best you can buy. I've owned plenty of different brands and these are by far the best

Recently purchased these tires mounted & balanced on steel wheels by Tire Rack. If you need to get around in snow, sleet, or slush, you want real winter tires, not all-seasons. Had no problem in Winter Storm Nemo on unplowed roads, my car is an '05 Honda Civic 5 speed stickshift.

This is more a review of these tires on my specific car.



Great in the snow, absolutely great. The more snow the better, or so it seems. Braking is easily better than all-seasons, as is handling and acceleration. Wet snow is noticable more difficult to maintain control, however. Now for the bad news, seemingly terrible in the slush. Not sure if it is my car or the tires, but the car gets pushed around very easily by even small amounts of slush. I tend to believe it has more to do with my cars suspension, weight, and width to wheelbase ratio than the tires though. Easier to drive through 6 inches of snow than 1 inch of slush. Fun to have a car willing to rotate on dry roads, but not so much on wet winter slush.



Dry roads are mixed, as these things like to grab every little pebble and sand grain the road commission dumps on Michigan. Slip and control is well within tolerance though, and really only becomes an issue in spirited driving. It takes very little to spin the inside wheel accelerating through a tight corner if there is any sand, debris. Clean roads are great in the dry though. Some tire wandering above 65 mph, although determined mostly by road surface. Tires seem to move and stretch a noticable amount more above freezing temperatures, although this is only apparent driving back to back temperature differences.



Very quiet tire, almost as quiet as the non-OEM all-seasons that I had on before. (Coopers?) Much quieter than my father and bro-in-laws Blizzak Revo's. Stock wheels are 17", these are on 16", I notice more rebounding motion from the tires than stock, although small imperfections are slightly smoothed over versus stock. In retrospect, I should have gone with 17" as the extra sidewall can be felt in hard acceleration. Not sure on tread-wear yet.



In summary on my Mazda 6s, great on the snow, bad in slush, matches wet(rain) A/S performance, dependable dry weather performance and a very quiet ride for snow tires.

When Should I Remove My Winter / Snow Tires?

People often ask when they should put on and remove their winter / snow tires. Typically, the time most drivers have their winter tires on their vehicle is from late November to early April.

It's important to use them only during the winter months in an attempt to maximize their treadlife. As illustrated in the photo below, tread depth is one of the most important features of a winter tire.

Convinced 87 year old mother to replace 7 year old original Continental tires with 1/2 remaining tread and 35k miles with new ones as they were getting a little hard. She was happy with the Continentals so I read all the tests on the new ProEco's and they finished first in the tests. Competitively priced with all the leading sellers with better performance. Know full well these will be the last tires she will ever need on this car. She was immediately impressed with the handling and quiet of the car and new tires. I took it out in 24F crappy weather with slush and rain to see how good they were going to be. Awesome!! They are much superior to the original design in wet, slushy and dry. Light snow and ice up and down driveways with traction control is a breeze. I've been driving this car in dry, wet and light snow for the last two weeks and can find no fault with them. Modern cars with ABS and traction control with 17" alloy wheels will love these tires. Handling in the extreme under bad weather is quite amazing for a Green tire with 80k tire wear. I have autocrossed cars for 30 years so pretty much know how to road test tires for grip and steering feel in both wet and dry. These tires have it all for the average motorist at a fair price. I totally concur with Tirerack's tests. Especially when the cruise control is on at 70mph on the highway the ride is great and they are totally quiet with an original factory suspension. These are great tires for NW Ohio where the snow rarely gets over 3" deep.

No tire alone will stop on ice but this was pretty decent on some very solidly frozen interstate. Travelled through two snow storms up to six inches on the road and held up quite well without losing control. All with a rear wheel drive vehicle. Tires gave you the confidence to climb hills in snow. I'd recommend these tires if expecting snow.

O.E. tires on my 2013 F150 275/65/18. Tires are not good at all. Sidewall flex, poor snow traction, very poor ice traction. Have to use 4wd in situations I shouldn't. Ford has a habbit of putting tires on their vehicles that don't fit the vehicle. All the O.E. tires are poor for the vehicles they put them on. Will be replacing these tires and wheels with 305/45/22 Fortera SL and selling the O.E. setup very soon.
