Young African Leaders Visit Tire Rack

Monday, July 28, 2014 by Tire Rack Team

We recently welcomed over 20 young African leaders from 17 countries as part of the Young African Leaders Initiative program hosted by the University of Notre Dame to our headquarters in South Bend, Indiana. Students listened as Matt Edmonds, vice president, told the Tire Rack story and were given a tour of our facility.

As part of the program, the students learn leadership training, academic coursework and mentoring to create new opportunities in Africa where they can put these skills to work. The students learned how we grew from a small shop in Indianapolis to where we are today and how the entrepreneurial spirit of our founder, Pete Veldman, was key to our success. Matt also explained to the group how integrity and great customer service are our foundation and that both play an important role in building a successful company.

It was clear the students enjoyed their time at Tire Rack. They were filled with energy and loved taking photos in our studio, as well as on our test track.

Where did the young leaders go from here? Most went on to visit other companies across the Midwest, including IBM, PricewaterhouseCoopers and the Chicago Cubs. A few will also go on to receive an eight-week internship with an American non-governmental organization or business.

We’d like to thank them for taking the time to visit Tire Rack. It's exciting to see the enthusiasm they displayed during their time here and we wish them all the best in the future!

My wife and daughter believed I put shocks on their car because of the varying texture consistency of the ride! Highly recommended to any who rides on highways for extended periods. Fuel economy was enhanced by two miles per gallon. Go for the purchase and save valuable time by going to purchase this product.

I've only had these tires for one month but I have to say they are the best tires I have purchased. I have always purchased Michelin, Goodyear or Firestone's and the Pirelli are by far better. They are so quiet and provides a very smooth ride. Will definitely purchase these from now on. Can't wait to test them during this coming winter.

This is proving to be a great tire. Drove in a blinding rainstorm at 70 mph with no hydroplaning. Road noise is almost non-existent and ride is excellent. For the price you can't beat this tire. It is as good, if not better, than any tire I have owned and this includes Michelin, Yokohama, Pirelli and Continental. I don't plan to drive this car in snow but did want a tire that would perform well in cold temperatures.

I recently replaced the Michelin Latitude Tour tires that came with my Ford Edge with these Pirelli Scorpion Verdes and so far am very impressed. They actually feel more smooth than the Michelins and a slightly quieter ride. Haven't noticed any improvement on fuel mileage but that's not a major concern. I can say comparing these and the Michelins, for me these are a better tire.

I was going to report on this tire at 1000 miles but now at about 450 miles there is much to say. The ride continues to improve and is getting quieter. Handling especially in the dry is also better and the Outback is approaching "tossable" when it comes to going through curves. For those who know the DC beltway (I-495) near the Moron Temple, I can now take those curves at near 70 MPH and the car tracks beautifully.

My first experience with wet braking was good. The tires slid but much less than the OEM Continentals. Dry braking is better and the stopping distances are shorter.

Fuel economy has suffered a bit down about 1 MPG but this is a fair trade off to significantly improved handling and a car that is more fun to drive.

This is the 3rd set of tires on this car and they are by far the smoothest, quietest and best handling. The original Michelin tires were ok so I purchased a set of Goodyear Asssurance Touring. The Goodyear tires were ok to begin but the last 20,000 miles were extremely loud and the ride was very rough. I was begining to think about getting rid of the car after riding in newer quieter cars but I decided that a new set of tires may change my mind. After driving the first mile with this set on, I love how the car rides and handles. It is as if I am driving a new car again. I am very happy with these so far.

Great tires, superb resistance from hydroplaning at highway speeds, when ya hit a big pool of water it goes through effortlessly. They are great handling, very stable, since I have EIbach pro kit springs and sways on my GTI the suspension is much firmer than stock, so the tires did get noisy after about 50,000miles, they did get the alligator tread smooth one direction, rough the other way when ya rub your hand across them. New ones are smooth and quiet! Got about 54K out of the set, great stuff, very stable and feel great in the GTI. AND cheaper than the stock Conti Contacts from factory, and are a better tire! It's win win win Extreme Contact DWS are great tires.

OEM on my Denali XL, put 110K on them and replaced them with the same thing. That is not a typo--110,000 miles on this set of tires. They did need replacing, but they weren't bald--had 3/32 of tread left at worst point. Never expected to get that kind of mileage out of a tire. Key is to rotate every time you change your oil. These are very fairly priced for what you get with this tire.

When first installed were a bit squirrely at Interstate speeds, disappeared in a few hundred miles. In very cold weather and after sitting for days, need a short distance to warm up and smooth out. Very solid ride and stick really well. Difficult to cite any harshness directly attributable to the tires and not characteristic of the car. These are great tires for the price, far better than Michelin for value with no loss of performance. Treadwear rating is higher than Michelin, speed rating is same. Notes: Size given is rears only, this car takes a different size on front. Also, tires are Ventus V12 evo (not evo2). J.Wilkie, Charlotte,NC

These tires are a great value and were a great improvement over the Kumho Ecsta that was on the RX 330 previously. The Kumho had much better treadwear than Michelins but were noisy. The Conti's are quieter, ride softer without salvaging handling, do very well wet and dry road conditions. My RX has air suspension, so it rides harder than regular struts I think. But the Contis have softened the ride. I am very pleased with them so far. One note, I did have to have them balanced by a road force balance machine to get the best ride out them.

July 07, 2014

Just purchased these Potenza RE760 Sport tires and had was excited after reading reviews on here about the performance and the ride quality. Being a tire aficionado I was chomping at the bit to get a good run in with these tires. Now that I got to drive these I must say they do not disappoint at all. First run was down the highway with road noise and ride quality significantly better than the BF Goodrich G-force's. It just so happened to be absolutely pouring later on and the road was holding water. Got a top speed of 95 mph and never felt so confident in my 2001 BMW 525i. I had to get a good run in on the most twisty road I know with the slickness from the rain and found traction so good it felt like the car was on rails. With no mileage warranty and some spirited driving it'll be interesting to see how they hold up over miles but I must say that this tire can make your car feel like a new one with a big jump in tire manufacturer, Bridestone versus Goodrich.

I drive a Holden Clubsport R8 6.2L manual (G8 GXP) but better. I don't drive the car a lot 15500 miles in 2.5 years but when I do it's very spirited and these tyres I found to be a bit squirmy when new and improved a lot as tread wore a little and are still very good in the wet even with minimal tread. Front tyres still have heaps of tread but rears suffer under the power. Overall a very good tyre and would bye again.

I am now on my second set of these tires on my 2005 WRX wagon. Unfortunately I hit a big pothole with my first set and one of them was damaged so I had to replace them prematurely. They were at 7/16ths tread depth and I was on my third summer season with that first set. I just had a new set installed today. I didn't think twice about buying these tires again.

These are my summer tires in Colorado, and I commute over 50 miles per day. I absolutely love these tires. To sum them up, they are comfortable and quiet on my daily commute, but when I go for spirited drives they provide all the performance I need. Sure they're not track tires, but they are grippy and responsive, and they communicate their limit well. For me they are the perfect summer tire for a commuter who likes to have fun driving without worrying about their tires. And I've never had any issues in the rain either. I highly recommend them!

I love how these tires handle. Take in consideration that the rubber on these tires are thinner than most tires built to last mileage wise. Expect to spend more on tires that doesn't last longer than approximately 30K miles due to the fact that the rubber on these tires are thinner than those tires that can go for 40K+ mileage. The reason for the rubber on these tires are thinner is because performance wise it handles better on the road, it has that "hug" affect. There is more control over the vehicle than those other tires that can last 40K+ miles. Of course, these tires wear out quickly just to the fact that the rubber is made a little thinner.

So, yes these are great .. sport performance. Cost is expected for performance not for the long lasting performance. So depending what is sought out..These are the best for performance handling. The cost is steep .. but you get what you pay for. I'd purchase it again!

Good tire. They are a bit heavier and stickier than my last set of Falken Sincera SN-828 which hurts my MPG by a little over 1 MPG, but these tires have a lot of grip at a great price. I will have to watch for tire wear, but it is too early to tell on that. I also don't use my summer tires in the winter so I won't be able to respond to that. So far so good. Very good price for this tire. They provide a lot of grip. No noticeable road noise even with windows down. I am happy so far.
