Over the last several years I've switched vehicles a few times, but have always held on to my solid 2008 Toyota Tacoma 2WD Regular Cab. It's a simple truck with a five-speed on the floor, cloth seats and crank windows, yet nothing is more dependable. Being only 2WD instead of 4WD, it's got one major weakness - it's intrinsically bad in snow.
Rear-wheel drive coupled with very little weight on that rear-drive axle equals poor snow grip. You can't beat physics but you can deal with it. Fortunately, I do know of a great place to get winter/snow tires! To improve grip, I went with the Studless Ice & Snow Bridgestone Blizzaks in the Original Equipment size of 215/70R15. Our install bay installed them on my extra set of Original Equipment steel wheels. I also placed a locking cargo holder pole directly above the rear-drive axle so I can add weight to the back of the truck.
