Ultimate Winter Performance From Your Nissan Altima

Are you enthused about your new Altima, but worried how it will do in the snow? No need to worry, a set of winter / snow tires can have your Altima ready to tackle any condition Mother Nature throws your way.

Winter / Snow Tire Category

If you haven't done so, please review our winter / snow tire overview. If you want the best packed snow and ice grip and you're willing to compromises a little with dry road performance, then select a tire from the Studless Ice & Snow category.

Winter / Snow Tire Size

Always check your tire sidewalls to verify your current size but here's a summary of the normal Original Equipment tire sizes:

Model Standard Tire Size
Altima 215/60R6
Altima S 2.5 215/60R16
Altima S 3.5 235/45R18
Altima SL 2.5 215/55R17
Altima SL 3.5 235/45R18
Altima SV 2.5 215/55R17
Altima SV 3.5 235/45R18

The key to selecting the proper winter tire size is choosing a size narrow enough to cut through deeper snow but wide enough to still be capable on packed snow, ice and dry roads. See more information on how narrow to go. With curb weight ranging between 3,108 to 3,447 lbs., the Altima isn't so light that going narrow is imperative. However, you should fine tune your size choice based on your typical winter conditions.

Ask yourself what type of winter weather you're likely to encounter. Does your daily commute often take you through unplowed back roads or through a subdivision that's seldom plowed? Maybe you almost immediately jump on a well-maintained interstate highway for a long trek? The narrower tire will be better for deeper snow travels, where as staying with a width comparable to an Original Equipment size is better for your long highway commute.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)

Your dealer or major installer must initialize your TPMS sensors for your Altima to read them. If you do your own maintenance you can also do it yourself as described here.
