My Jetta Sportwagen came standard with 17" Conti ProContact tires. They were well used up by 50,000 miles. I liked the Conti tires due to good responsiveness and cornering/braking. The Contis were always quite poor in snow, but since I also have a 4x4 available, not a big issue.

The first thing I noticed with the Pirellis is the sudden quiet on the highway! It is difficult to quantify how much quieter the P7s are than those Contis, but the difference is almost shocking. The P7s are great on wet and dry roads and they still provide good feedback in corners. The P7s are obviously better in snow than my worn out tires, but better than the ProContacts ever were in snow. The P7s are NOT great in snow however, so don't think of that as a ringing endorsement. It's more of a "they don't absolutely ----." If you need snow tires, get snow tires people.

I love these P7s because of the quiet, smooth ride, great handling and feedback and somewhat improved snow performance. The P7s are just a better tire in every category in my mind. I thought the Contis were great until I got the P7s.

I've only had these tires for a week, but wow what a difference! I got this car with the OE Michelin Pilot HX MXM4 and was shocked by it's poor performance. With traction control on in the rain, it was normal to have the car hesitate as the rear tires fought for traction. With TC turned off, well, it was a wild ride indeed. Lots of fun but very dangerous for the inexperienced. Snap oversteer ruled the day. In the dry the Michelins were a little better but still very overwhelmed by the Northstar's torque. I've been itching to try a good set of Extreme Performance or Max Performance tires on this car since I got it but waited until the Michelins were used up. I can say that these DWs have transformed the car. It's rained several times in the past week so I've had several opportunities to try out the wet traction. Where normally with TC off (that's how I drive) I would get severe oversteer with normal throttle application (meaning no aggression whatsoever) on turns with very slick asphault, these Contis just bite like crazy. I have to get very aggressive to induce some slip, and when I let off, they come back into line beautifully.

On the highway, at speeds approaching 70 - 80 mph, there is a little vibration in the steering wheel, especially as the tire comes up to temp. They are noticably more noisy than the Michelins but that's to be expected. Ride comfort is good but the stiffer sidewalls are definitely felt. Not a bad thing in my opinion but conservative buyers should be aware. I read a recent review from a Jetta owner giving these tires a bad review stating that turn-in is poor and that he can feel the sidewalls squirming and the only thing I can think of is that his width is way off compared to his wheel width. There is no reason why the experience he describes would happen with properly matched tire widths.

I'll update later as I get more miles on these tires but so far so great!

I've had them long enough to have driven in almost every condition on road, including deep snow, ice, heavy rain, dry highway, secondary roads with tight turns, and some highway cruising. I don't have any meaningful off-road experience to report.



These tires transformed the ride and tire noise levels to those of near car tires in our 2006 Honda Ridgeline RTL. We had low-profile Toyo Proxes ST, and while the dry handling was great, that was the only joy I got from them.



The Geolander AT-S, the replacement for the AT-2's,is far better for typical driving (I've had the AT-2's), with the extra sidewall casing belt. It steers very well, and generally does what is asked of it. In my case that's a lot. The Ridgeline puts 'sports' into a truck: it has precise steering, high spring and shock rates, and a fully independent suspension. It drives like a quality sedan. Tires have no where to hide with this vehicle and any flaw or characteristic is made apparent.



I'm mostly amazed at the ride quality, and the near absence any noise. These tires soak up most road imperfections extremely well, especially on expansion joints going over bridges. Yokohama has done a great job balancing everything one needs in a AT rated tire, while giving you (me really, until you buy your own!) what you're hoping for.



I drive pretty briskly, and the handling is just great. I've bought performance tires for nearly 20 years (usually the best of the best) and these remind me of how they handle in the wet. Matter of fact I've yet to slide this truck in either wet or dry condition, and haved provoked them, but never unsettled them yet.



For those that are big on tire wear (it's not a selling feature for me at all), I'm happy to report uniform, but hardly perceptible wear. I don't think most people could even see it. Oh yes, one other thing, these tires do seem to balance quite well, too.

The DWS is in a different league as the original Michelin. While the DWS is slightly noisier than the OEM Michelin, it more than makes up for it in how much better it absorbs bumps and shocks to the wheel. Also, with the Michelin's, even though the TLS is all wheel drive I could easily spin the tires while shifting in to 2nd gear and could shake them loose coming out of tight turns (upon acceleration) I could not make these Continental tires break loose under the same conditions. The Continentals are cheaper and have been a best buy for me for the TL AWD. Also, the Michelin's were horrible in snow. I actually have to use snow tires to get anywhere. While I expect these Continental's to perform better than the Michelin's in light snow, I already have a dedicated set of snow tires that have the sever snowflake rating for the heart of winter.

These are definitely the best overall performing tires which I've had on this car, but the tread wear is less than I expected even with a treadwear rating of 180. With only 13000 miles the wear bars are just about to show on both front and back. However, they do perform very well. They out perform the car, or at least better than I'm willing to push them. They seem to ride a little hard, especially as they get worn. I'm using Biltstein shocks. Even now when they are approaching slick, the wet traction is remarkable. I'm very pleased with the low level of road noise that they make. I've noticed that the inside tread is wearing deeper than the rest of the tread and it causes a little "hunting" on asphalt roads which are not perfectly crowned or flat. I don't expect to get more than 15000 miles on them and I'm a little disappointed give the cost. But, I've always wanted to know what it was like to drive the car with tires which are above the car in performance. Now I know. It's difficult to decide if it is worth it.

KW Variant 3 Coil-Over: Race Technology That's Comfortable on the Street

Having just purchased a 2012 Ford Mustang GT, I felt that many aspects of the vehicle's performance were phenomenal, however the suspension left me wanting more. While the car provides good lateral grip in corners and performs better than any other generation of stock Mustang, the soft spring rates contribute to excessive body roll and front-end pitch under heavy braking.

To cure this, I pulled out the big guns and installed KW's Variant 3 Coil-Over. While the Variant 1 allows only for height adjustment with KW factory pre-set damping, and the Variant 2 provides height adjustment and adjustable damper settings, the Variant 3 gives drivers independent control of both rebound and compression, along with a wide range of height adjustment.

Installation only took two hours with a lift and a few of my friends. KW even includes vehicle specific install instructions and recommended shock settings. While the car now rides on a much higher spring rate than factory, the dampening takes out some of the harshness associated with lowered cars. It really rides quite nice and shows a huge improvement in handling. The car lays flat into corners with minimal roll and is much more stable under acceleration and braking.

Five Common Myths About Using Lowering Springs to Lower Your Car.

If you've already upgraded to performance tires, the next step to improve the handling of your vehicle is to upgrade to a better suspension set-up. Typically, the most cost-effective way to do this is to replace your vehicle's Original Equipment springs with a set of performance lowering springs. Lowering springs lower your car's center of gravity for better handling, but there are many other benefits to using them. Vehicles also benefit from an improved sportier appearance when lowered. So what stops many drivers from lowering their car? Here are five common myths that often stand in the way. 

Myth 1: If I buy lowering springs, I can't use my original shocks.

Fact: Springs that produce mild lowering of about an inch work well with newer factory shocks. In fact, Eibach's Pro-Kit Spring Set and even their more aggressive Sportline Spring Set are designed around a vehicle's original suspension. 

Myth 2: I will need an expensive alignment kit if I install lowering springs on my car.

These came stock on the 19" x 8.5" rims of my 2011 Mustang GT. I drive 6-speed with 3.55 gears, so the rear tires get a bit more shock treatment than that of an automatic.

Brand new, the tires are great. You almost can't get them to break traction short of turning the traction control off and dumping the cluth after reving up to red line. But after doing that a few times, you will find the traction/stickiness of the tire will have depleted.

They are still good all-around tires, but after a few months of driving, they lose their launch traction.

I have already replaced two sets (four tires total) in the two years that I have had the car and am about to replace another set on the rear. That would mean that about every 10,000-13,000 miles, they need replaced. The tread is not down to the cords or anything, but you can feel a major difference in the performance at the 10k wear point.

Road noise is pretty minimal for a low-profile tire and the ride is comfortable as the suspension on the GT with these tires rides very well. There seems to be a bit of roll/softness in cornering, but if you know your car well enough, you know what you can and can't do and the tires stay fairly firm. I will buy them again for all year tires, but I will probably switch to something stickier for Summer track action on street tires.

I have worn out a number of very high performance tires on this car. All have their quirks. These are still low miles, so I haven't really tested them much, but so far so good. The PZero Nero offer surprisingly civilized ride, fairly low noise, with strong and predictable cornering. My suspension is mostly stock with Koni shocks, and these tires will out perform my suspension with no drama or unexpected motion, and max cornering on ramps is very stable and predictable. I am impressed that wet traction is very good and they still behave well. I can't wait to put them back on after snow season!

I'm comparing these to the 225/45-15 RS3's I normally run. They are a bit sketchy at the limit and required a big setup change to get the balance back on the car, but once we did that the performance was very good. They drive differently than the RS3 so don't be shocked when it feels different. As far as time difference on a 60 sec course they seem to be a few tenths faster at most than the RS3...but we'll see in 2 weeks when I get to do a back to back test.

I purchased this tire to replace a pair of worn Blizzaks on my daily driven MR2. The tires were mounted on the stock rims on a car with a refreshed and slightly upgraded suspension setup (stock height), all parts replaced and aligned. Even though the stock tire size is 185/60/14, I went to the 195/60 in hopes of getting a bit more comfort, but still great traction, with this car that I DD (highway) and still hit up the backroads with on the weekends.

Based on reviews and ratings (price wasn't bad either), I opted for these Bridgestones. I haven't really done too much serious driving, but I can say that the tires are much quieter than the old Blizzaks and just as much so as the 215/45/16 Hankook RS2s (great tire, but not much creature comforts) I had last summer. Also, these Bridgestones are predictable and direct with inputs. On the highway they ride smooth, as a new tire should but, again, they are nice and quiet.

Just this evening, I took them down one of my favorite stretches of backroads, and for a tire so comfortable, they just blew me away! Very direct, predictable, and firm. I didn't feel any squirm or "mushiness" from the front to the back, even through some interesting set of turns. They catered amazingly to my mid-engined coupe's unique handling characteristics, and had me having to throttle down a bit because of how fast I was going with the car still feeling so secured to the road... Frankly I was shocked! I look forward to making these tires last, all while getting the best use out of them. I hope to report back in the future!



A note about a previous review; perspectively good tires don't make your car lose control, but a poor alignment might. Proper alignment is important when judging how well a tire performs. Side note, I was surprised at the number of Porsche owners who commented on how well these tires performed for them, certainly in the pursuit of comfort from day to day, and performance from weekend to weekend.
