O.Z. Racing Tuner System Wheels

Tuesday, April 15, 2014 by Neal O'Neal

Spring is here and what better time than now to outfit your vehicle with a set of O.Z. Racing Tuner System wheels. In 2006, Tire Rack became the North American distributor for O.Z. Racing wheels. This partnership includes O.Z. Racing's prestigious, custom 3-piece wheel program -- O.Z. Racing Tuner System. This program helps expand fitment limitations normally found with one-piece wheels. Additional brake clearance and maximum outer lip depth are just some of the benefits this system provides. Applications are available for many of the world's most exotic cars including Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, Porsche, as well as a wide variety of luxury and performance cars.

How does the process work? O.Z. Racing Tuner System's 3-piece wheel components -- wheel center, inner rim section and outer rim section -- are produced in the same facility, with the same machinery and using the same technology as F1 race wheels. Rim diameters are available in 18", 19", 20" and 22" with inner rim widths of 5.5" to 9.5" and outer rim widths of 1" to 4" possible. Tire Rack's complete, in-house inventory of all 3-piece wheel components means quick turn-around with assembled wheels shipping within 1-2 days of order receipt.

Precise wheel assembly is performed at Tire Rack using an exacting process that maintains and enhances the structural integrity originally built into each individual wheel component. O.Z. Racing Tuner System supplies a proprietary fastener specific to its 3-piece wheels to ensure the highest level of structural integrity. These fasteners alone do not guarantee a properly assembled wheel and tightening. Thus, Tire Rack uses a factory-certified Ingersoll Rand DC Electric Fastening System to tighten O.Z. Racing Tuner System's proprietary fasteners.

The assembly torque of these critical fasteners is controlled and repeatable to less than 1/2%. Tire Rack's fastening system produces traceable measurements of torque to spec every time. In fact, wheels custom-assembled at Tire Rack are shipped with a computerized print out that shows in detail the settings used to assemble each wheel. Proper torque (fasteners tightened to spec so they won't break or loosen) and run-out (radial and lateral roundness for vibration-free rides) are recorded.

Once assembled, each O.Z. Racing Tuner System 3-piece wheel gets a unique serial number noted on a sticker placed on the inside of the wheel near the valve stem.

Introducing the New O.Z. Racing Leggera HLT

Tuesday, March 18, 2014 by Marshall Wisler

Spring will be underway shortly and that means many new wheel styles will be available. While there are many fresh designs that have caught my eye, none has impressed me more than the new Leggera HLT from O.Z. Racing.

The Leggera HLT, with its split 5-spoke design, is clean, well made and has an excellent bright race grey finish. It's also light, something we expect after having carried O.Z. Racing's Ultraleggera and Superleggera wheels for quite some time. The Leggera HLT is available in 17"-20" rim diameters with most of the popular widths, offsets and bolt patterns being represented.

O.Z. Racing never compromises on quality and complies with all official regulations, including the stringent rules of T.U.V., the German control office. They constantly submit their wheels to multiple comprehensive testing to measure road stress. And to detect minute flaws, wheels are put under pressure in a specially designed water tank and scanned for hidden flaws by X-ray. Further examination is done by computer and electron microscopes. Finally, an anti-corrosion treatment is given, followed by a protective lacquer coating and final cleaning.

Search by vehicle to see if this new O.Z. Racing is a fit for your car.

The o.e.m. tires on the car when delivered will probably last 35,000 miles when the wear-indicators are flush with the tread. While I would consider this unacceptable for a "general use all-season radial," this is the best tire I've owned for performance driving while still getting around in rain and snow. I was so impressed with it that, now that replacement time has arrived, I re-upped for the o.e.m. tire on a set of OZ Alleggerita HLT rims (25% + lighter than Honda's Si alloy).

Steering feel, turn-in, and lateral grip are excellent. The car is used for track days and to "do" the Tail of the Dragon about twice a year (each). It gets around fine in light snow. It sees regular rain use on Interstates with no aquaplaning at above-legal speeds. I have not noticed the noise that some other reviewers complain of. it is as grippy as the Goodrich T/A's I upgraded to on my Mazda RX-7, quieter, and has a more supple ride.

OEM tires on my car. They will probably last 40,000 miles, but I want to upgrade wheels/tires before my next trip to Tail of the Dragon. The o.e.m.'s have done two Dragon runs and two HSAX track days. Have been shopping Tire Rack for a grippier 4-season tire based on UTCQ rating (300). Can't find one. This confirms my subjective experience: the best 4-season sporting tire I've driven. They stick and stick with excellent feedback about the slip angle.

I will re-up for these o.e.m. tires mounted on OZ 15-lb. rims from Tire Rack in September. The negative reviews astonish me. I can back through 4" of new snow in my driveway. Winter traction is average for a 4-season performance tire, a small price to pay for summer fun.

No hydroplaning problems. In fact, they track better through deep water than other high-performance tires I've owned. Superb on rainy Interstates at high speeds. Can spin 'em from a dead stop at a greasy intersection. Would be disappointed if a Civic Si couldn't!

Noise and ride harshness not a problem; no worse than other high-performance 4-season radials I've owned. But the grip is better. Seems to me that if these factors are more important to a user than dry/wet summer grip, should not be on these tires in the first place.

Great handling in dry and wet. If you want that Go-Kart experience in your ride, look no further, just be warned you WILL be cornering harder and faster just because of the sheer fun of not having one ounce of grip loss. The fact that these tires saved my OZ non-forged aluminum rims from being completely destroyed have earned their weight in gold. I've hit pot holes that sounded like my entire front end was destroyed and not 1 scratch or bend on my rims... abso-friken-lutely unbelievable.

This tire blew me away. AWESOME ride! I noticed the moment I drove from the installers how quiet they were. My rating does not reflect winter driving but I will update that when it gets here. Dry traction is terrific for my spirited heavy foot. Wet traction is great too, but with a 6.0...traction will always be an issue with any tire. I could not have been happier with this tire...until a few days ago. I got a steering wheel shake and figured the tires were out of balance. NO big deal it happens a lot with these 18 rims on these cars. The technician said he needed 10 oz of weight to balance the right front!!! That is waaaay too much. So I figured it must be out of round or there is really something wrong with it. Well to my amazement, I contacted Tire Rack that evening and the next day they had a new tire on the way. NO QUESTIONS ASKED!!! My next set of tires will come from them no question. I cannot compliment and thank Tire Rack enough for their awesome support and assistance. As for the tires...I LOVE them!

Been R6 fan but they are very sensitive to alignment (uneven wear). Just came back from VIR event and have all good things to say about this tire (C51). Takes a couple laps to warm up when stone cold but no different than R6's. In terms of grip, unless back to back, wouldn't be able to tell difference between these and Hoosiers. Seems to be more tolerant of alignment changes. Will need to report back next season regarding how much longer they last vs. Hoosiers. I have 10 30 min sessions in instructor group on these and they seem to be in much better shape vs. my R6 experience. They also hold their pressure better than R6's on my OZ allegeritta's - R6's randomly lose pressure over time - sometimes does, sometimes not depending on the rim. I would definitely use these moving forward...even for races. if they last longer, grip just as well, and are cheaper, I really dont see any reason to go back to the hoosiers. Sorry, want to buy american but not with that big of a value difference! Only issue is that it is not always available so need to plan ahead and order a backup set before you really need them.

OZ Wheels + WRX = Extreme Performance

Friday, October 21, 2011 by Jonas Paeplow
O.Z. Racing Alleggerita HLTFeatured in a recent issue of the Subaru magazine Drive Performance was Part 4 of Project WRX, (mechanical upgrades). Also included was an all important wheel upgrade for the project car. In a poll of Subaru WRX owners the hands-down winner for the best wheel for the WRX was the O.Z. Racing Alleggerita HLT.

"Alleggerita" is Italian for lightened. The O.Z. Racing Alleggerita HLT is a lightweight, nine spoke, single piece, low pressure cast, aluminum alloy wheel that is heat-treated for added strength.

The High Light Technology (HLT) process uses rollers to compress and elongate the material along the barrel of a low-pressure cast aluminum wheel to obtain the desired profile. This flow forming process, also known as spinning, produces wheels that are extremely light and strong, with mechanical characteristics similar to those of a forged wheel at a greatly reduced cost.

We carry the Alleggerita HLT in 8 colors with hundreds of sizes and fitment combinations. O.Z. Racing has proud tradition of building strong, light and stylish wheels for many tastes and requirements. A winning record in racing series around the world such as Formula 1 and IndyCar is an incontrovertible testament to their performance capability.

If you want a good looking, great performing wheel that looks right at home on your Subaru WRX, without breaking the bank, look no further than the O.Z. rims/wheels selection available from Tire Rack. Are your WRX tires in need of an upgrade? Find the right match for your WRX and create the perfect Tire & Wheel Package!

It is designed to incorporate the original Ferrari center cap and to bolt on with the original Ferrari lugs. This OZ Rim has the unique feature of being hubcentric without requiring a hubcentric ring for most late-model Ferraris. Applications include the 599, 612 Scaglietti, 360, 430, and California.

The cap shown on the wheel here can be purchased as an option for this OZ Wheel as well.

All O.Z. Tuner System wheels are manufactured to the highest standards. New OZ Wheel For Porsche 993, 996, 997

Friday, June 11, 2010 by Nick Shreve
OZ has just introduced a new wheel exclusive for Porsche 911 models. This new model is called the Turbo III which is a 3 piece wheel that we hand build using OZ Italy specified tools and procedures.

The pieces are built by OZ Italy. All 3 pieces, whether it be the wheel center, inner rim section, or the outer rim section, are produced in the same facility using the same machines and technology used to build their F1 race wheels. These wheels come in staggered wheel widths in 19" rim diameters with the proper offset to give your Porsche that aggressive sporty look everyone desires.

Match these with some max performance summer tires and you have yourself a very clean sharp looking car, that can handle everything the street can throw at you and also be a blast at the track.

You can find these wheels in our upgrade garage when you enter in your specific Porsche model and year.

We also provide you with the recommended tire sizes to use with these wheels and a link to show you the options we offer.

Being specific for Porsche these wheels are designed to use the factory Porsche titanium lug nuts and don't require centering rings for fitment. The OZ Turbo III also will work with your factory TPMS system.

We offer replacement TPMS sensors and when purchased as part of a wheel and tire package we will install the sensors and, as always, mount and balance your new wheel and tire package at no extra charge.

C6 Corvette Tires and Wheels (Part 2: Wheels)

Wednesday, May 12, 2010 by Brandon Lorenc
Wheels are just another name for Rims. Technically the Rim is just the outside edge section of the wheel that "touches" the tire. Among our most popular "rims" are American Racing Rims, Borbet Rims, OZ, and BBS. For the C6 Corvette, I like the lightest weight forged wheel that we sell in the stock, or Original Equipment 18 and 19 inch sizes. Those are the coveted BBS-GT, the Holy Grail of wheels. These are lightweight (21 lbs. front anf 23.5 lbs. rear) strong and beautiful looking wheels, especially in the Diamond Black Finish (also available in silver).

Check them out and let me know what you think!

Tire Rack can say for certain that these wheels will give you the best fit possible because they're actually made using three individual pieces. And an incredible amount of style, too. O.Z. Racing Tuner wheels can be found on a number exotic cars including Aston Martins, Ferraris, Maseratis...and yes, Porsches.

OZ Racing Wheels

Monday, May 3, 2010 by Jim Holloman
Have you checked out the OZ Racing rims on the Mazda Mazdaspeed3 in the Continental Tire Challenge? The O.Z. Alleggerita HLT is used on the cars for the road racing series. They are a complete street wheel but they only weigh 15.6 lbs in a 17x8 wheel. Unlike other racing series, these cars are dedicated race cars but they are running street wheels that anybody can buy and use on their own car. Lightweight wheels will improve the car's performance by reducing unsprung weight.

Even though the wheels are light they are also still very strong. Sounds like a win-win.

What is "Plus Sizing" and what are the benefits?

Thursday, April 29, 2010 by Mason Rush
Plus sizing is an option allowing drivers to customize the appearance and performance of their vehicle by mounting lower profile tires on larger diameter wheels. One-inch greater wheel diameter is referred to as plus-one, two inches is plus-two... and so on. Using a lower profile tire with a greater diameter rim allows the overall diameter to remain about the same, giving your vehicle a unique look with a new wheel and tire package.  You can find a complete lists all the wheels available for your vehicle at: Wheel Brands. Enter your vehicles make, model, and year in the field on the left and we will show you all the wheels our engineers have found to fit your vehicle. We will also give you the option to find tires in the correct size for your car or truck.  Here you will find new releases from OZ, BBS, Breyton, ASA and others. The O.Z. Racing Tuner System puts custom rims on your vehicle.

Thursday, April 15, 2010 by Tire Rack Team

Complete your look with a set of custom rims that fit your vehicle and your style just perfectly. The O.Z. Racing Tuner system creates one wheel out of three pieces for a fit that's specific to your vehicle. Literally, because all custom rims get their own serial number. Though we put them together here at Tire Rack, O.Z. makes each individual piece in the same manufacturing facility as its F1 racing wheel. We think that's an excellent indication of quality you can rely on.

Search by vehicle to see which O.Z. Racing Tuner system wheels might work for you.

Performance Wheels

OZ Rims Span the Spectrum

Monday, January 25, 2010 by Tire Rack Team

From polished silver finishes to red, blue and orange accents—there is, quite literally, a colorful span of O.Z. rims to choose from. And that's only part of the reason O.Z. Racing wheels stand out.

O.Z. Racing wheels have always been prominent in the light alloy wheel industry due, in part, to their strength and their beauty. A number of prestigious auto equipment and body work companies use O.Z. wheels, and they can be seen as standard equipment on a number of exclusive automobiles. And their motorsports involvement is a true testament to the fact that O.Z. Wheels never compromises when it comes to quality.

And that quality can be a part of your vehicle, thanks to Tire Rack.
