April 06, 2013

Initial review-
Amazing grip, don't have to brake on on/off-ramps, these beat the Nitto 555's and Sumitomo HTZ3 by a wide margin. Added 275-35-18 tires and GT500 SVT rims to a stock GT Mustang, simply amazing tire in the dry. Have not driven in rain yet so will update down the road.
Tire rack confirmed these were date stamped late last fall, shipping in 4 days and balanced very well. Money well spent!! Running at 37 psi currently. These do seem to pick up small rocks and sand and shed it just as fast, no biggie its a max summer tire!

Initial Review, 2,000 Miles on Tires
December 31, 2012

Let me start off by saying that I purchased these tires solely to quieten down the noise level on the highway. What I was not expecting is the mind blowing amount of straight line grip. My car is modified, and nearing the end of my previous tires life (BFG KDW) I would encounter wheel spin in 3rd gear (in cold temperatures). With the Continental DW's on, I can balls-to-the-wall launch the car wide open from a stop. They hook every time, even in cold temperatures. I am not exaggerating, these have to break some laws of physics or something. I have never experienced a tire grabbing the road this aggressively when the pavement is cold. I haven't tested out the braking ability yet, but I suspect it will be face-warping.

As for agressive cornering, I must say my KDW's were better when they still had tread. These Continental's still corner very well, however the softer sidewall is evident. I can feel a bit more tire rollover in tighter corners. It's really not too bad though, and it's certainly not a deal killer for me.

Anyway, back to ride comfort. Umm, it's excellent. These tires take pot holes like a CHAMP. Rough roads are no longer rough. A significantly less amount of road vibrations make it into the cabin. I also immediately noticed how much more responsive and "lively" the steering feels in everyday low-speed maneuvers. The steering wheel feels much lighter when turning around town compared to my previous KDW's. The ride comfort as a whole is very much improved. I would highly recommend them. Providing the tread doesn't wear out too soon, I would definitely buy another set.

I can see why Ford went with these tires on the performance Mustangs, they handle brilliantly. Braking, turning, wet or dry handline, just excellent. However, even with regular rotation they're toast at just 14k miles. I'm probably going with the Michelin Pilot SS for replacement, since they actually have a tread wear warranty.

Initial Review, 1,200 Miles on Tires
October 23, 2012

'13 GT (brembo / track pack) Car came with PZero summer only, which worked tremendously as long as temp is above 50F. No plans to drive car in any snow however in NH we have quite a few days in the fall and spring that are obviously below 50. Wasn't ready to "park it" for the winter so ordered these with a set of ford track pack wheels.

Steering and handling - no noticeable change. Progressive break-away, recover nicely as well. Steering response / turn in just as immediate as the PZeros. Does provide a bit more feedback information through wheel (mostly because of stiffer sidewalls)

Braking - Under hard braking tire does induce more ABS action however still can generate similar braking #s. Wet road braking is probably better than PZeros

Ride / Comfort - Do ride stiffer than the PZeros. Road noise is lower. No change in tracking for car

Wet traction is great; equal to PZero. Zero issue with hydro-planning.

Dry traction is more than adequate but not nearly the bite that PZeros have (provided it was 50 degrees out). My best 0-60 time on Pzero was 4.2 with these it's 4.5 (according to onboard track app)

Overall = Good looking tire, tremendous in wet conditions, rides very quiet. Ride is stiffer and dry-road traction is 90% as good as summer only tires.

Tire-Rack Service : Ordered tires at 3:00pm on monday afternoon. Had them on my car by 10AM tuesday (next day). Wheel balance is spot-on.. no shakes or vibrations on speeds fast enough for a few week stint in the pokey ;)

Initial Review, 18,000 Miles on Tires
July 03, 2012

These tires came stock on my 2011 Mustang GT/CS. TO call my driving style "spirited" is an understatement. I am an auto-crosser. I have not auto-crossed the Mustang, but I enjoy the car daily on the back roads and highway to work. Handling, acceleration, braking, and overall performance were exceptional. I am down to the wear-bars on all four tires at 18,000 miles, but I am happy with that longevity considering what I have asked of these tires. For the price, these are worth the investment as a performance street tire. I would want more lateral grip if I were going to run this car on a track or in autocross. They are predictable when they do break loose, and easily re-grab traction to gain control of the car.

Initial Review, 35,000 Miles on Tires

Absolutely fantastic tires. I'm a very picky driver who notices a lot. Road noise for this type of tire is incredible, steering response, predictability is great. The only downfall of this tire is the lack of wide 18" sizes. I used a squared setup like the factory did and the car drives very well. Power-on traction or rotation is very easy to control, braking is fantastic and the car was suprisingly good in the wet. These have been the tires on my daily driver @ 420-570whp for the last 27 months. Rears lasted about 20,000 miles, fronts still aren't down to the wear bars and still aren't trying to crash me in the wet. I live in Florida so the summers are very wet and the roads are flat with a lot of standing water and the tires have done amazingly well. I drive them accordingly - 11" wide summer tire on a relatively short wheelbase car, but when driven with care they are perfectly acceptable in the wet for what they do in the dry. If they had a 345mm 19" option and a 315mm 18" option I would probably put them on everything I own, absolutely my favorite tire and last far longer than the treadwear would suggest. Now with that said I have to admit I have not pushed them for a sustained track session so I cannot comment on how they act when legitimately hot.

Initial Review, 1,000 Miles on Tires
May 02, 2012

I bought these tires because they were recommended to me from a friend. I read many reviews that were sub-par, and I honestly don't understand why. These tires are amazing. They have incredible grip under acceleration, cornering, braking, and even in the rain. They do NOT make all the noise that some people have whined about. They also look as cool as any other tire out there, not that that should be the main reason for purchasing a tire, but certainly doesn't hurt. For the money, you can't beat this tire. If putting them on a 2011+ Mustang GT(brembo) like I did, I would recommend going with the 275/35/19 on the back, and 245/40/19 on the front.(275's MIGHT rub on the front, and 255/40 is too tall, 255/35 is to short) This is the single best mod you can do to these cars.

These are the street tires on a Shelby GT. Overall I'm pleased with the KDWS but tread wear is disappointing given my relaxed on road driving style. They are ready to be replaced at 17,000 miles. In the rain it is easy to spin the tires when starting with any more than gentle throttle. The ride is comfortable and quiet and did not change much as the tires wore. The tires were maintained at the proper pressure and wear was uniform. Cornering and braking feel stable and accurate in dry conditions. I never drive this car in snow so I can't add much there but given the wet traction I wouldn't expect much.

Initial Review, 1000 Miles on Tires
December 18, 2011

I don't see my 0mi posting of this tire, but to reiterate, break in time driving is hazardous as I slid down a ramp and but now with 500-1000mi on them they stick like no other... Now I can't really even do a burnout with them after the tires are heated up... Tried doing a burnout from a patch of water and the tires still hooked up though that time I just floored it without using the brakes... Weaving around people going 45 in a 65, the tires hook up well and hold... during U-turns though, my rear tires push my car into under-steer but that's a common trait with all RWD cars... Haven't really driven in rain yet but my GF said it's way better than the last tires, but she's the responsible driver (Not parker though lol)... I can tell you the size I have with the Razor rims I have from this site (275/40/ZR17), at full lock the front tires rub ever so slightly, and you might think your tires have popped or you ran over a water bottle and it popped from the sound, but it goes away, and right now it's just a squeaking rub sound... when people say the tires don't give good feedback, it's really they aren't using the lower profile ones, the ones I have give plenty of feedback... I more than likely will get these again...

Why ask Henry about tires?

Thursday, May 6, 2010 by Henry Carlson
Hi! I have worked at Tire Rack for over 13 years. Part of my job is to test the tires we sell on both the highway and on our test track where I push the tires to their limits in both dry and wet conditions. I test all kinds of tires from Standard Touring All-Season tires, High Performance All-Season tires to Extreme Performance Summer tires. Some of my favorites are the Bridgestone and Firestone performance tires that handle great even in wet. By testing tires I am able to inform customers about the differences in handling as well as noise and comfort levels. I have even tested snow and ice tires in an ice rink!

If you drive a BMW, Porsche, Acura, Ford Mustang, Chevy Camaro, SUV, mini-van, pick-up truck or anything in between, I can put you into the best tire and price for you and your vehicle.

Tire Rack also carries a large selection of aftermarket wheels that will enhance the appearance and handling of your vehicle in addition to brake pads and rotors as well as suspension parts.

So why ask Henry about tires? The answer is his over 13 years of tire testing experience. During those 13 years I have seen great improvements in all brands of the tires we sell. Visit our website and if you have any questions please contact me at 800-461-5527 ext. 351 and I will be happy to discuss your tire needs.

You've got the Mustang, now get the Mustang rims.

Wednesday, January 13, 2010 by Tire Rack Team
Ford Mustangs have been rolling down our streets since 1964, impressing us all with their power and their style. Though Ford has made a few improvements over the years, it's as classic a car as ever. Why change a good thing, right? We only disagree with that statement when it comes to the Mustang wheels.

It's not that we dislike the Original Equipment, we only aim to exhibit how the installation of aftermarket Mustang wheels provides performance and aesthetic benefits. And there are a number of excellent aftermarket Mustang wheels.

The 2010 Ford Mustang GT Coupe above features 20" Sport Muscle Tach wheels that are machined with an anthracite accent. Other Mustang wheels that would look just as good include:

Enkei Performance Series LS-5 (Black Painted)
Sport Edition KV5 (Silver)
TRMotorsports MT1 (Matte Grey)

Use our Upgrade Garage to see what these and other Mustang wheels would look like on your vehicle. You'll also get access to Mustang tires, Mustang brake pads and Mustang suspension products, including Mustang shocks.
