Raised White Letter Tires for Your Muscle Car or Street Rod

Tuesday, November 20, 2012 by Marshall Wisler

If you own a classic muscle car or custom street rod and are looking for period-correct tires, you're likely aware that your options are becoming extremely limited. As vehicles roll off the assembly lines every day with larger Original Equipment wheel sizes, classic tire sizes in 14" and 15" are becoming harder to come by.

To narrow down the field, most owners of classic vehicles prefer to maintain the original styling the car came with in its respective era. The original styling of the 60s, 70s and early 80s is often identified with branded raised white letters on a tire's sidewall.

While stock levels in various brands have diminished over the years, Tire Rack is still proud to offer BFGoodrich's iconic tire, the Radial T/A in 22 sizes. This Performance All-Season tire features a look that many consumers are attracted to and is priced more cost-effectively than you might expect if you've been looking for Original Equipment reproductions.

Ranging in outside diameters between 24" and 29" and widths from 205mm - 295mm, these tires are a favorite for muscle car owners or anyone looking to tackle a custom project.

Hello, I am looking for raised white letter tires for my 2010 mustang convertible. 225 17 or 28. Having no luck. Help!
Wednesday, February 20, 2013 by Marshall @ Tire Rack:
Tim,
Raised white letter tires are typically found on small wheel sizes such as 14" and 15". I do not believe that any 17" or 18" white letter tires exist in the mustang fitment. -Marshall

Ross,
In that size most all of the tires with OWL have been discontinued. The only tire that remains is a Bridgestone Potenza RE92 @ 184/ea.

You might try either a 195/70/14 or the very common 185/70/14.

Trying to locate 'raised white letter' BFG Radial TA's or Goodyear Eagle GT II's (or ST) for my 68 Mustang GT rims, 14x6. Recc is 205/70R15. Help advise please!
Friday, June 14, 2013 by Marshall @ Tire Rack:
Tom,
Sadly we do not carry any RWL tires in that size. The closest option for the Mustang would be a 215/65/15. The BFG Radial T/A is produced in this size.

Trying to find some good RWL tires in size 235/50-16 or even a 225. Changing the wheels is not an option as they are Shelby Mustang Wheels.

I am interested in RWL tires for my 1996 Miata. the size for the Miata is 195/50/15 I am flaring the fenders for more flexability kindly advise on what size tires I can use thanks
Thursday, July 3, 2014 by marshall@tireack.com:
J,
BFG does not make the RWL tire smaller than 205/60/16. This would be quite large for a Miata.

I'm looking to replace some Grand Prix Super Wide GT M50-14 bias ply tires with raised white outline lettering. They are on mid 70's American Racing US Indy Deep Dish slotted aluminum mags on a 67 Chevelle SS. (14x10 rear and 14x7 front)
Do you have any, or know of, any radial raised white tires that will fit the bill? Fronts shouldn't be a problem to match if I can find rears the same size
Thanks!
