We have had these tires on our 2008 Prius for about a year. They replaced the Goodyear Integrity tires that came with the car. Some observations, they are a bit stiffer in ride than the Goodyears but they also seem to handle better (turn in, cornering). They have good grip and stopping performance for this type of tire. The fuel economy is about the same as with the OE Goodyears. You can hear them if you try, but the average noise level is very mild. After 10k miles they show almost no wear, so I'm betting they will make good on their mileage claims (or get close to it). They have held up well to the abuse of our pothole stricken roads and took an impressively small amount of weight to balance. We haven't driven them in the snow so we can't comment on that. Overall I'd say they are a good match for a Prius.

Just took my snow tires off for the season to try my new Michelin Premier A/S tires. It then proceeded to snow on my first day driving on these tires. They performed very well in light snow, especially considering I had not even worn the release agents off the tires yet!

The tire rides smooth, seems to mute the bumps and potholes, but still feels responsive. So far I am very impressed.

These 275/55-20's were OE on my 2007 GMC Sierra. Was a great tire all the way around (handling, stopping, quietness) by this semi-aggressive driver. Only real drawback was need to replace them at about 20,000 miles. I replaced with Cooper Zeon (horrible tire; loud, vibration, no traction) then yanked those in less than one year (gave them away). Finally replaced with Michelin LTX M/S2 and put probably 45-50000 on them. The LTX was a nicer tire than the Goodyear LS-2 in every way except mileage. I can't explain it, but I lost almost 2mpg with these LTX M/S2, but they're comfortable and quiet. The LTX M/S2 has a little poorer traction (regular, AWD, and 4WD) than the Goodyear LS-2 in snow, which have pretty decent winter traction. I don't see snow that many days a year, and find myself using AWD more with the Michelins than I ever did with the Goodyears, for both snowy and rainy conditions. If only I could get a 50K version of the Goodyear LS-2...

I WILL buy this tire again. I drive in the city, some Hwy. I wanted a QUITE tire- it is!! Very quite. Very smooth ride and no tire noise. Makes driving my camry enjoyable again. Handles in snow very good-only better choice would be true snow tires. On water, great-grabs the road and no hydro-planing. I don't know the make of the tires I replaced....and I thought twice about these because of the price-BUT, I have been VERY Pleased with these tires. I will buy them for my minivan when I need new ties. Don't sweat the price, once you get them on- You'll be SO GLAD you spent the money.

The tire is pretty average all around. Decent handling on dry pavement and steering responsiveness and good stability cornering. Everything else is just average and uninspiring. THe snow and ice handling is below average for an all season. Plenty of slipping and the TRAC control and VSC come on regularly due to what seems like a hard compound, a tread design with no siping and smaller spacing in the tread blocks. It does not compare to the Michelin LTX I had on my older Highlander in terms of all season performance. I will likely purchase those again before next winter or maybe the Continental Cross Contact LX 20.

I bought this tire based on the November 2010 Consumer Reports article that put it in second place (tied for 1st in points) out of 17 tires in the Ultra-High Performance All-Season Tires Category. The price point was so low, too, among the cheapest available in 225/40-18 size to replace the two Dunlop SP Sports (front) and two Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires (rear) that came on the GTI I purchased used. Those tires had okay tread depth (not much on a tire of this size anyway) but the Michelins especially had severe weather cracking and the rolling noise of the four tires was very loud and non-uniform across the rotation (slipped radial belt, I figured). I liked that the Sumitomos were noted as being the quietest tire in the category by Consumer Reports--if they give up some performance for it, I haven't noticed.



They've indeed made a huge difference in noise and ride smoothness. I hope that lasts as the tires wear. Coincidentally we've had major snow and ice storms in Indiana since I put them on, and I'm impressed how well they do. Never felt out of control or immobile.



Basically my only gripe was with tirerack -- their competitor Vulcan Tire beat them by a few bucks on price, had cheaper shipping, and didn't charge me sales tax, so I went with them. Another possible gripe is that these tires don't have rim protectors, so be careful parallel parking. But otherwise these have not disappointed and I am picky about tires. If you drive more or less normally and like to step on it from time to time, I think you'll find these perfectly adequate, with low price and quiet ride (relative to the category) plus serviceable light winter traction to boot.

Tires have been great for the first 15,000 miles. No sign of hydroplaning or loss of grip in rain. No snow yet but will have better idea after this winter. Great tire and very economical. As quiet and comfortable as my OEM Michelin Latitude HP and MUCH less expensive.

What a refreshing change from our old tires. I never thought I'd buy Firestones after their problems over the years, but these came recommended and... they're an almost unbelievable combination of very quiet, exceptional responsiveness, high corning limits (okay I don't explore the handling limits too much in a Town and Country, but the van definitely handles better than ever), great wet traction (my wife complained a lot about this van in the rain for 8 years, but not now), snow traction (good, for the first time in the eight years we've had this van. I really couldn't be happier. I sure hope these tires last a long time, because driving on them is a pleasure. One thing I have noticed is that the sipes (the very small grooves in the tread) only go about half way down, so I'm wondering how much the snow and wet traction will diminish as the tires wear.
Incidentally, this van came from the factory with Yokohamas, which wore quickly, were awful in the snow and rain, and were kind of mushy handling. I replaced them with BFGoodrich Traction TAs after a good experience with them in an older tread pattern - they were noisy, had bad wet and snow traction, wore pretty quickly and I had a defective one.
I was determined to get a really good tire on my van - I thought I would buy Michelin Defenders, but I think the Firestones are a superior tire.
And no, I don't work for Firestone.

These tires replaced a set of Michelin Pilot Exaltos, which are excellent tires. On most measures I would consider the Yokohama to be even better. Dry and wet traction are both excellent, and better than the Michelins. Cornering is excellent. Snow traction is clearly much better than the Michelins.



I do not have enough miles on these tires to comment on treadwear.



The only negative I can think of is that these tires are a bit louder in hard cornering. This is no reason not to buy them, but they are going to let you know when you push the limit. That may actually be a good thing.



One final comment that I think is a bit of an anomaly: This set of tire were balanced three times in the first 750 miles. Basically that means at the original installation and once a week thereafter. There was a subtle high speed (65-70 MPH) balance problem. Neither of the re-balance efforts helped. The problem simply vanished on its own at about 1000 miles.



In summary, I am extremely pleased with these tires and would not hesitate to recommend them. Treadwear is as yet unknown, but the Michelins they replaced made it to 54,000 miles. I would be happy if these Yokohamas reach 40,000 miles.

Living in Germany where snow tires are required during the winter months. I am running Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S tires the rest of the year. I can compare them to each other. The Michelin tires are by far the best tires I have ever put on any of my cars for warm or wet driving. But when it is cold (40 degrees or lower) or icy, the Conti's are mind-blowing. I am 45 years old and grew up driving in snow and ice covered steep, curvy mountain roads. The Conti winter tires brake and handle astonishingly well on snow and ice. They are superior to the Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S in very cold temps on both wet and dry. They have two weak spots. First, when pushed hard in sustained turns, they fall off suddenly and dramatically, which is forgivable for winter tires that perform so well as intended. Second, at high speed in a strait line the car is very unsettled. It just won't track straight. My my oldest son eventually gets queazy.
This comes on at about 60mph and gets worse all the way to 'can't go any faster" mph. The Autobahn is smooth as freshly Zambonied ice and yet the exhausting high frequency instability is ever present. (tried rotating tires, no effect)
Bottom line:
Astonishingly good winter traction in cold dry, cold wet, snow covered and ice covered roads. If you travel at high speeds for long periods of time, maybe look at another tire.

These Michelins replaced the Pirelli P Zero Nero all seasons that originally came on my GTI and they have exceeded all my expectations. I cannot recommend them enough! I was dead set on summer tires at first, but someone told me to check these out and a month of research later I bought the Michelins.

I started autocross this year and I'm topping the GS class after 2 events with these tires against guys with more experience - some with max performance summer tires! They still can't believe a 500 rated tire can be that sticky.

Ride and noise: The Pirellis were pretty good but the A/S3s are noticeably better.
Dry traction: Way, way more grip than the Pirellis. Just as fast on the track as similar cars with 200 treadwear rated tires.
Wet traction: As good as the Pirellis were IN THE DRY.
Cold temps: No noticeable drop-off in grip compared to warmer temps.
Snow and Ice: I'd call them manageable. In light to medium snow, they were fine. On ice, I can't recommend them. I just barely made it up a ramp to an interstate overpass to get home after a couple hours of freezing rain.

Other than snow and ice traction, the only other negative comment I have is I think the sidewall could be a little stiffer. Even with 45 psi, the front tires were wearing past the shoulder indicator on the track.

If snow and ice traction is a priority for you, choose another tire. If you don't see a lot of snow and just want an excellent all-around year-around tire, look no further.

The DWS is in a different league as the original Michelin. While the DWS is slightly noisier than the OEM Michelin, it more than makes up for it in how much better it absorbs bumps and shocks to the wheel. Also, with the Michelin's, even though the TLS is all wheel drive I could easily spin the tires while shifting in to 2nd gear and could shake them loose coming out of tight turns (upon acceleration) I could not make these Continental tires break loose under the same conditions. The Continentals are cheaper and have been a best buy for me for the TL AWD. Also, the Michelin's were horrible in snow. I actually have to use snow tires to get anywhere. While I expect these Continental's to perform better than the Michelin's in light snow, I already have a dedicated set of snow tires that have the sever snowflake rating for the heart of winter.

Best All-Weather Tires for Mazda CX-7

Winter Tires Off and Ultra High Performance All-Season Tires On?

It looks like spring has actually sprung! This week we'll get more than one warm day in a row. That's great for us, especially after this winter, but consistent warm weather isn't so good for your snow tires. Their specialized rubber compound will wear prematurely in warmer temperatures. So winter tires off, summer tires on, right? Not necessarily, as you may want to consider an all-season tire. Consider the following factors on whether you should get a summer or all-season tire.

Summer tires, especially on a powerful sporty car with great innate handling, allows you to push your vehicle to its limits. In order to benefit from the higher grip and crisper steering response of summer tires, you really have to love to drive and/or your vehicle is so performance oriented that it needs summer tires to handle correctly.

Are you not as intense during your daily commute? Exact attributes will vary from tire to tire, but you might be disappointed with a summer tire's higher tread noise, harsher ride, faster wear and poor grip in colder temperatures. Maybe you'd rather emphasize a quiet, more comfortable ride, with better longevity and cold weather versatility combined with enhanced emergency handling? Then consider options in the Ultra High Performance All-Season category instead of a summer tire.

Love these tires. Not too noisy. They are touchy-responsive with a stiff sidewall. Resist to slipping on the road, ultra grippy for people who like to drive swiftly. Handling in fresh snow (FWD) is great, I only had problems when the snow was too deep for my vehicle.

Traction is unsatisfactory in compacted snow or ice, but better than a summer tire. I recommend having studded tires.

My MPG average lowered to 26.9(Sport A/S 3) from 27.9 (OEM, which I deem acceptable.

Great tire, feels like OE on dry pavement, soft and plyable under freezing conditions but firms up on hiway and over 40 degrees. Only got stuck twice in snow over 5" deep (my fault) Better on ice than deep snow. Treadwear is what you would expect from a winter tire. Might get 4 seasons out of them if you take them off as soon as the temp stays over 45 degrees. Pricey, but the $70.00 rebate helps.

I just switched to the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 tires as I had my third blow out on a set of Kumho SPT tires in about 5K miles and 13 months. On two occasions I could not see any rhyme or reason for the blow outs. On the first occasion it was a nasty pot hole and I totally understand.

The Michelin's are absolutely amazing, in particular for the price point that they are at. I managed to put about 500 miles on them in 3 days in dry, wet, very wet, cold and light snow conditions. The tires just performed amazingly well. In the dry, the level of adhesion is beyond the other three sets of tires I had on this car (Bridgestones and Kumho). On the same on / off ramps, I am going about 15 MPH above the other two tires limit and these just keep on sticking! The breakaway characteristics are very linear and very predictable and in the GTI with its FWD very easy to manage. Even more impressive is their traction in the wet, where on a trip to upstate NY in the rain and heavy down pour, they did not hydroplane even once and I had to physically watch the speedometer as the confidence that these tires inspire can easily inspire one to go a lot faster than one should! There was light snow when we got to the mountains and in the light snow there was no issue whatsoever with traction or predictability.

The tires are soft to the touch but in the 50 or so miles of the dry back road twisties I went to and threw the car around, I could not see any tread-wear whatsoever. I have not seen that on any new tires that I have tried on any of my cars as I have always got them to grain a little bit in that type of spirited driving. The steering response is immediate and predictable and I can really toss this car around knowing what the tires are doing as they communicate the surface really well. They are the quietest tires I have ever had on any car and there were no harsh noises or jolts when going over expansion joints.

I wholeheartedly and without reservations recommend these tires.

Initial Review, 5,000 Miles on Tires

I have used three brands of snows, Pirelli, Blizzaks and these Michelins. I have these on a corporate Malibu. I drive a LOT of city and through the Colorado Rockies and across prairie. I need a tire that will handle in most every temperature and condition and give me good stopping and handling in the city. These tires get worked very hard, especially in the city with quick starts at lights. If you are a city driver you know you may have seconds to make a left and you will tailgate the lumbering Buick, SUV or Camry in front of you to get through.

I will say this is an outstanding tire. I watched the videos here on Tire Rack and I cannot disagree. I love the Pirelli's and this tire in particular. I really cannot tell them apart in my driving so it is subjective. However, the Michelin's are holding up well as I drive a lot in the winter. These tires stay on minimum six months a year.

I took the Malibu out with these in a real slushy snow and it was passable. Nothing does really well in the slush as you ride up on it. I took my other car with Blizzaks and no difference. However, these tires bite, ride and recover well. They are really superb on dry road and warm weather, too. This is what I really appreciate. A Malibu is not a performance car but I drive it pretty hard, chirp the wheels frequently and push the front wheel drive. The back and front stay well planted and predictable. In the worst snow and ice the tires give good grip and minimum sliding with quick recovery. That is all you can ask. If the wear is good I am actually playing with the idea of putting these or some Pirelli winters on my Mini Countryman all year. I kayak and have an idea these will be good in sand and small rock near the rivers. Since I am in Colorado you can actually hit snow 12 months of the year in the mountains.
This is a great all around tire that should meet most needs. You can try and pick minute differences in tires but you will not go wrong with these.

My first winter on these tires. Simply unreal. In every type condition from rain to snow to ice they are fantastic. THEY ARE AS QUIET AS ANY HIGH PERFORMANCE SUMMER TIRE I HAVE EVER DRIVEN AND I HAVE DRIVEN THEM ALL.

P255/65R16 106T Latitude Tour on an ML320 first series SUV. The tires are holding up well with just over 63k miles over 64 months. The first 18 months (14k mi) were in New England and the tires performed well through two northern winters. Snow traction was excellent as was wet traction. The last 48k miles have been in south Florida, mostly highway miles. Treadwear is excellent with about 4 to 5/32 of depth across the widths of each tire. (Tire rotation schedule and alignment issues with the car are main culprits for the uneven tire wear). Wet weather driving at highway speed in Florida has been great with zero hydroplaning (on 255s) along with confident braking. Dry weather driving is relatively quiet as is expected from all season tires. Mileage for the ML320 at highway driving is consistently 20mpg which I attribute 1-2 miles on the tire model. The previous tires were also Michelins but were H rated, lower tread life tires. I was initially concerned with "T" (118mph) speed rating, "B" temp rating, and 106 load index (2,094lb) for Florida drivers tend to consistently speed beyond the 70 MPH law. The ML is a heavy SUV with gross weight of 6000lbs. Front and Rear GAWR are 2550 & 3550 lbs respectively. A typical workday round trip is 140 miles highway driving 3-4 times a week. Additionally, was also concerned about the Florida heat and sun as the vehicle was not parked under cover for most of the last three years. As such, there is cracking all along the circumference of the tire walls (dry rot cracking, maybe). At this point, I am pleased with the performance and longevity of these Latitude Tours and may likely keep them on until the warranty period end (or another 2k miles). As a side note, I would purchase these again for a vehicle that I expected to keep a long time. These tires were a great investment. By the way, I love Tire Rack and will continue to purchase from them. Just replaced these with Conti CrossContact LX20 due to cost and remaining life of the Benz.
