Initial Review, 8,000 Miles on Tires
May 01, 2013

Purchased these tires based on other consumers’ reviews and TireRack’s test results to replace OE Continental ContiProContact “grand touring all-season tires”. The ExtremeContact DWS are by no means bad tires, but I didn’t find them outstanding either. I can only compare them to the OE ContiProContact, so here is my experience: 1. Very noisy tires, especially the first 1,500 miles. Almost returned them because of this, but was too lazy to deal with the hassle. The noise eventually diminished, but still worse than OE. 2. Fuel consumption increased 3 - 5% compared to OE (I am guessing because they don’t have low rolling resistance technology like the OE). 3. Handling and traction is definitely better than with OE tires, but for my type of driving this improvement was not enough to compensate for the noise and increased fuel consumption. 4. I did not have the opportunity to test these tires in snow and icy conditions.

I was tired of buying new tires every year. So looked up the AS/3s and many people were satisfied so i decided to try them out. These tires are amazing and worth every penny. They are quiet, and comfortable and they grip 100 times better then my previous summer tires. And they are all season. Its not like it snows here in texas but we do get alot of rain. Now im not worried about driving my car in the rain, sleet etc...will def buy again

G 009's preceded these latest Bridgestones. So far, excellent in all aspects. Dry Handling, cornering and braking are excellent. Wet handling is phenomenal--We drove 6 hours in varying degrees of rain and never a question about control. In fact, the further we drove the more I realized how indiscernible wet and dry traction compared with each other. Slightly noisy when dry, but then again this is a very heavy car when measured against the footprint of the tire.

I'm looking forward to winter to test the snow performance. Considering the G 009's winter performance on this wagon with rear drive and traction control were near unstoppable, I'm expecting the G 019's should out do their predecessors.

More later!

We've experience none of the owner related problems the folks from MN with the Passat can't seem to get sorted.

In general, these are probably good - perhaps great - tires. However, mounting and balancing to get good ride quality has been challenging (my installer has the most current road force balancing equipment, and has spent a lot of time trying to optimize it, and yes, also checking to ensure the wheels themselves aren't bent). Still, there is far more NVH than there should be for a high quality of tire like this.

Tire wear has been good, but not great. Then again, it's a heavy car. Normally the wet and dry traction is quite good, but I've noticed wet traction gets a bit more sketchy when it's colder outside.

Just finished 8th (yes, eighth) winter with this set running in Minneapolis/StPaul on a RWD 1999 Mercedes C280, my daily driver on a 10 mile round-trip 5-weekday commute. I bolt them on approx Dec 1 and pull them off approx April 15. Tread is half worn, if even that. Very heavy snowfall this past winter (toughest conditions I've seen in a decade). Tires performed perceptibly equal to first winter (2007,) which is to say excellent. Great value and service. Purchased as a tire/wheel set from Tire Rack in Jan 2007, as their recommended combo.

Initial Review, 300 Miles on Tires
May 14, 2014

Bought this tires based on good reviews here and I am so happy I did! First a few words about myself, I am big nut about tires, I used to have Tire Business in my country before I moved to the US. I drive two Mercedes 2003 and 2005 E320 CDI, so lets talk about the tires, first this is high quality tires with a good price and as all new tires they are quiet and smooth, but they are better then the rest , on 2003 e320 I have Good Year ComfortTread Touring, Before was Turanza Serenety, and before Serenety was Mich.,(drive my e320 for 9 years) so Why Pirelli is best over them, First, once they installed they smooth NO VIBRATION unlike Turanzas Surenety(8 times for balance 16 tires and sold them after 800 mile because bad vibration. Second, Pirelli is super Stable unlike GY Comfort Tread Touring( Puling to one side of the road and then to another, depends on the road slop). About ride comfort, they are quiet but transmit little bit more road imperfections like road joints compere to the GY, but Performance way better to GY CTT. So based on my pretty fresh experience I found This Pirelli Cintureto All Season P7 is superior to the tires I have and hand on my two Benzes include Mich., Bridge, GoodYears, Hankooks. Get them and you will feel how very confident, super stable, quiet your car is. About tread life, I can't say now but just let you know I change my tires close around 30 000 miles , Why??? because all tires get very noisy and rough over 30 000. remember this.

This review is a follow up to my review last year at 1000 miles. Now has 15000 miles on tires and can now say these are the best tires I have ever owned. Ride and handling are outstanding. No treadwear that I can see. Improved gas mileage of 2.5-3 mpg very impressive. Highly recommend purchase. Only negative is that I will be replacing this 07 R350 and the end of the summer and won't be able to buy Ecopia 422 as they don't come in a 19 inch 255/50 size rim of the 2012 R350

Initial Review, 7,500 Miles on Tires
January 30, 2013

I purchased these tires because the reviews on the most of the other options were poor. The tires have so far been a very good. The ride is soft and comfortable with very little noise. The wear rate has been good so far. The dealer just rotated them and reported no problems other then some very minor side wall issues. I think he was more interested in pointing something wrong out since I didn’t get the tires from that dealer.

These tires are great in the rain. No sliding or hydroplaning at all. We had an ice storm recently and the tires didn't do that great but the road was almost all ice. If there is any place I am disappointed it's in their performance in the snow. They are adequate but could be better. They lack the traction I’ve had with other SUV tires. They weren’t bad, just ok. Overall, so far, these tires have performed very well for the price.

Kumho Ecsta PA31: All-Season Traction at a Great Price

Thursday, May 15, 2014 by Zig Ziegler

The Ecsta PA31 is Kumho's newest introduction to the High Performance All-Season performance category. It's also currently ranked number one in our survey results. Ecsta PA31 tires are typically at a price-point that's a little lower when compared to similar options. These tires would be a great choice for drivers of mid-level sports cars, sporty coupes and high-performance sedans, such as BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz and others.

Designed to provide high performance handling in wet and dry conditions, the tire also delivers Kumho’s unparalleled combination of ride comfort, low noise and all-season traction, even in light snow.

 Kuhmo Ecsta PA31
Kuhmo Ecsta PA31

Ecsta PA31 tires feature an advanced technology tread compound that blends high performance handling and all-season traction with long treadwear. Its compound is molded into a mildly directional tread design that promotes even wear, responsive steering, cornering stability and braking traction in all-season conditions. The directional tread design’s four circumferential and multiple cross grooves help expel water quickly to resist hydroplaning and improve wet weather traction.

If your drive demands a tire with a performance edge, quiet ride and all-season traction, and you're looking to get the most performance for your dollar, take a look at the Kumho Ecsta PA31!

I recently switched to these Pirelli Verde tires from Michelin tires. I have always sworn by Michelins, and have run through quite a few sets over the past 30 years. The last set made an awful lot of road noise, making my Mercedes ML sound more like an econobox! From the beginning they always howled at certain speeds, and got louder as they wore down. As soon as I had the Pirellis installed I noticed an immense difference. They are amazingly quiet at all speeds. I am really very happy with them. They have good wet and dry grip. The ride is supple and controlled. The steering response is less exact and sharp compared to the Michelins. But who needs that in a big heavy diesel Mercedes!

Initial Review, 63,000 Miles on Tires
March 27, 2014

P255/65R16 106T Latitude Tour on an ML320 first series SUV. The tires are holding up well with just over 63k miles over 64 months. The first 18 months (14k mi) were in New England and the tires performed well through two northern winters. Snow traction was excellent as was wet traction. The last 48k miles have been in south Florida, mostly highway miles. Treadwear is excellent with about 4 to 5/32 of depth across the widths of each tire. (Tire rotation schedule and alignment issues with the car are main culprits for the uneven tire wear). Wet weather driving at highway speed in Florida has been great with zero hydroplaning (on 255s) along with confident braking. Dry weather driving is relatively quiet as is expected from all season tires. Mileage for the ML320 at highway driving is consistently 20mpg which I attribute 1-2 miles on the tire model. The previous tires were also Michelins but were H rated, lower tread life tires. I was initially concerned with "T" (118mph) speed rating, "B" temp rating, and 106 load index (2,094lb) for Florida drivers tend to consistently speed beyond the 70 MPH law. The ML is a heavy SUV with gross weight of 6000lbs. Front and Rear GAWR are 2550 & 3550 lbs respectively. A typical workday round trip is 140 miles highway driving 3-4 times a week. Additionally, was also concerned about the Florida heat and sun as the vehicle was not parked under cover for most of the last three years. As such, there is cracking all along the circumference of the tire walls (dry rot cracking, maybe). At this point, I am pleased with the performance and longevity of these Latitude Tours and may likely keep them on until the warranty period end (or another 2k miles). As a side note, I would purchase these again for a vehicle that I expected to keep a long time. These tires were a great investment. By the way, I love Tire Rack and will continue to purchase from them. Just replaced these with Conti CrossContact LX20 due to cost and remaining life of the Benz.

New Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza Plus Versus Dueler H/L Alenza for Crossovers and SUVs

Tuesday, March 25, 2014 by Gary Stanley

Back in 2004, the Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza was introduced to premium crossover and SUV drivers as the premier tire of choice. Always a good performer in our Crossover/SUV Touring All-Season category, it has been praised by our customers for its quiet ride, great wet traction, wear and good looks. Appropriate vehicle applications and Original Equipment fitments include the Cadillac Escalade, Acura MDX, BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz ML Class, Lexus RX, Buick Enclave and the new Cadillac ATS and ELR. For more on this tire's great reputation and feedback, take a look at "Best Tires for a Street-Driven SUV."

Bridgestone is known for continually pushing the envelope, and ten years later, has introduced a new and improved version of the H/L Alenza. This new tire is the Dueler H/L Alenza Plus.

This new version maintains the same appearance, popular sidewall design and efficient tread pattern of the current Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza. That is where the differences end. H/L Alenza Plus tires have a new tread compound that Bridgestone states will improve on the tire's fuel economy by reducing rolling resistance by up to 10% compared to the previous version of the tire without sacrificing wet, dry or snow traction. Bridgestone has also upped the ante for treadwear by offering the tire with an 80,000-mile limited treadwear warranty!

If you're in the market for a premium, quality replacement tire for your crossover or SUV, don't overlook the Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza Plus.

Initial Review, 14,000 Miles on Tires
February 14, 2014

This tire has incredible dry and wet grip, and it is very resistant to hydroplaning so far with about 14,000 miles on them. They are also very responsive to steering input and give a stable ride. Be aware that these tires do have stiff sidewalls though, so they will firm up the ride and they are a bit more noisy than a touring tire, so if you want something totally smooth and cushy, they might not be right for you. I think they're great. I have only driven them at very slow speeds on ice/snow (I have dedicated winter tires too), and they were a bit slippery, but serviceable at slow speeds and with caution. I did not purchase them for snow driving though and the only reason I got to try them at all is because I accidentally took my snow tires off a week too early. At 14,000 there seems to be enough tread left to get another 10-15K on them before the reach my wear limit, which is typically before they would legally be considered worn out. I am fine with that...I buy my tires for traction and safety first. I run them at 31 to 32 psi.

Without compromise, I normally use snow tires in the winter and performance tires for summer. After getting whacked with the Great Recession I decided to save some money and I purchased these Goodyear Eagle Sport All-Seasons, at the same time thinking it would be a compromise for winter driving. To my surprise these tires work very well in the winter! If you're buying all-season tires you'll be pleased with these.
