Recently, a
n early snowstorm in the Rockies and Northeast reminded us that winter is fast approaching. If you haven't already, now is the time to order your Winter / Snow Tire & Wheel Package.
Tire Rack offers alloy wheels for a wide variety of makes and models that work well in winter conditions. For an even lower cost option, some vehicle applications allow for the use of steel wheels.
While steel wheels may not be pretty, they are inexpensive, basic and functional without the style and maintenance of aluminum alloy wheels. However, they're not available for all vehicles. You'll be able to see if they're available for your vehicle when you create your Winter / Snow Tire & Wheel Package. When selecting the wheels for your package, steel wheels will be provided as an option if they're appropriate for your application. Typically, steel wheels are available for many vehicles including most Volkswagens, Mazdas, Hondas and Toyotas. For more information on the difference between steel and alloy wheels, read "Alloy vs. Steel Wheels in Winter Tire & Wheel Packages."
You can improve the appearance of steel wheels with a set of wheel covers (hub caps). While covers are optional, they can make a big difference in cosmetic appearance. The option to add them will be displayed after you add the steel wheels to your shopping cart.
