Load Range G Tires for RVs

Friday, March 30, 2012 by Gary Stanley

Before too long, the RV season will be in full swing. While Tire Rack does not carry a large variety of RV tires, we do have two great choices from Continental. Both tires are newer, updated designs that have a chip-and-tear resistant tread and are designed for reduced stone retention.

Continental HSR
Continental HSR
Continental HDR
Continental HDR

For the RV that doesn't see snow and only encounters light off-road conditions, the Continental HSR is available in a 225/70R19.5 size. Typically, these tires are used on the vehicle's front axle. If your RV needs a tread with more bite for snow traction and some off-road use, consider the Continental HDR. The tire is available in both a 225/70R19.5 and larger 245/70R19.5 size. Both sizes are normally installed on the drive axle of the RV.

Shop by size to find your next set of Continental HSR and HDR tires.

I was reading the above statement regarding the 225/70R19.5 size where you state "Typically, these tires are used on the vehicle's front axle." I checked my tires and they are 24570R19.5 all around. Is that typical? Can I use the above 225 size on my existing rim, or should I just maintain the same size all around as I have now?

Dennis,
Even though a given tire size happens to be typically used on the front axle of some vehicles, this does not mean you should change your vehicles tire size. Maintain your current sizing.

I have a 1985 Chevy 17 1/2 foot motorhome that I need two front tires for but I do not know what size they are. If you could let me know what size they are and how much two of them would cost I would be greatful. Thank you, Marilyn

Marilyn,

The size will be listed on the sidewall of your tire. We would need to get that size from you in order to assist with pricing.

Tires with load ranges of C or greater do not have traction, temperature or wear ratings. We do carry one load range E tire in ST225/75R15 : the Power King Towmax STR trailer tire.

I have Cooper 245/70R19.5 tires on a used motorhome I purchased. The load rating is G. Is there somewhere that I can get a load rating chart based upon the loaded weight of the MH? The dry weight is 14,500 and GVRW is 18,000.

Ted,

I'm sorry, I am not sure where you can find this sort of information.

I have a 2011 F-350 4x4 SRW Diesel truck with a 8FT. bed that came stock with Continental LT 275/70 R18 125/122S load-E tire rated for 3640LBS. The GVWR-11500 door sticker states a MAX Cargo load of 3397lbs. I also have a 5000lbs air lift system added to the truck's suspension. My ? is that if I put a load range G tires on my truck will this increase my trucks MAX. Cargo weight and tow weight capacity for my truck and will it be legal. If so can you recommend a highway tire for me. I have a 3800lbs camper that goes in the bed of the truck and I pull a 3 place motorcycle trailer. Thanks Dave
