After five years of reliable use, I recently sold my 1991 Toyota Land Cruiser back to its previous owner. I'm normally quite good about keeping vehicles detailed and properly protected from the elements with high quality waxes. However, this twenty-year-old SUV served as more of a workhorse than a show vehicle for me. Needless to say, it was in need of a good detailing.
Typically, I would suggest applying a polish first, (like the Griot's Garage Machine Polish 2) followed by a wax or paint sealant. In my case, the buyer gave me a very short notice, so I had only a couple of hours to get the job done. Applying a separate polish and sealant on this large SUV would have taken most of the afternoon. Instead I decided to try out my Griot's Garage One-Step Paint Sealant.
I applied the One Step Sealant with my Griot's Garage 6" Random Orbital Buffer and removed the polish with microfiber towels. In about one hour, the results were surprisingly good! Many small scratches were gone and the paint had a very nice deep shine, as if it were many years newer. Plus, it now had a good layer of all-weather protection. I can rest easy knowing the next owner of my old Land Cruiser will have good looking paint for a long time to come.
Little known tidbit: This product works great on alloy wheels too! Just apply by hand.
In case you were wondering, the tires I used on this SUV were the Bridgestone Dueler A/T REVO all-terrain tires. They served their purpose quite well and I would recommend them to any Land Cruiser owner.
