April 17, 2014

Just bought these tires to replace my Kumhos. The Kumhos had fantastic tread life, but they kept skipping and not gripping when I put any extra pressure on the gas. I noticed an immediate difference when I installed the Potenza S-04's. I love to accelerate hard after a full stop, and the S-04's have reduced the skipping tendencies of my car by 85-90%. So far I love them, but I do worry about the tread life, which I understand will be less than that of the Kumhos. If I get 20,000 miles out of this set, I'll be happy.

Initial Review, 1,000 Miles on Tires
June 30, 2014

I bought these tires to replace the Kumho Ecsta's that wore out after just 30,000 miles. We went on a vacation the week we bought the tires and after 1000 miles of mixed driving in a one week period I could not be more satisfied with this purchase. The Ecsta's were very noisy, not a issue around town but after 5 hours at 80MPH it became very tiring, the P7's on the other hand were very quite and after driving 300 miles non-stop there was no noise induced fatigue. The rolling resistance on the P7's is so low that I also picked up 4MPG combined. The one complaint that I could have about the tires is actually a great complement, they took a little time to get used to as the turn in is much sharper and there is very little push in hard corners. I truly can not believe that a tire with a 700 treadwear rating can perform this well, I can now understand why it is rated at #1. I am looking forward to the next 60,000 miles to see how these do in the day to day.

Huge improvement over factory run flats, not as glued to the road as a Pilot Sport but for the price a great performance value, comfortable in rain and surprisingly capable in snow, pulls about 70% as hard off the line as a snow tire and lets the car move around a bit but you feel like you'll never get stuck. I have not had these on a track but based on the wear showing at 15K and my aggressive driving style I think they'd hold up well. I can buy 3 sets of these or two sets, a spare and jack for the price of the garbage run flats that BMW put on at the factory.

I bought this tire to replace worn OEM-like Bridgestone's. I could not be happier about how this tire has performed: Quiet ride, premium look, improved steering response, and stable in wet or dry, and better than expected wear. If I don't upgrade the wheels and suspension this time around, then I will be replacing these Kumho's with a new set of Platinum LX's. Great tire!

Going from BFG super sport a/s were good for 10k, but then its different rubber compounds made them feel like my struts were bad. Then went with Toyo Proxes 4 plus which were heavy, impossible to balance, and just plain terrible. The Kumho's are the best Ive had on this car. Would recommend them without reservation.

Have been very satisfied with my now second set of Kumho Solus KR 21 tires. They deliver a comfortable ride with reliable handling in dry, wet, and even snowy conditions. I once drove 500 miles through blizzard-like conditions on plowed highways at almost regular highway speeds and my car handled remarkably well. No loss of control. Good traction.
This tire not only provides a confident driving experience in all seasons, but my fuel economy remained the same at 50mpg (sometimes improved to 54mpg), the tire noise was minimal, and they are a great value. My first set of Kumho's lasted 78,000 miles; my second set 45,000 miles. Not sure why the difference, but I am still a satisfied driver and plan to buy my third set.

Easily the best tires on my MS3 so far.

OEM tires on my car were Pirellis; I'm not sure what model. They lasted for roughly 18k miles. Cornering was terrible and noise levels were awful. The growl they produced could almost drown out the running engine.

Afterwards, I went to Kumho Ectsas which grip significantly improved; however, the noise level and ride comfort wasn't all that great. After hitting a pretty substantial pothole with my second set of Ecstas, a bubble appeared in the inside wall of the front right tire and since that set had around 45k on them, I decided to move to the Pilots.

Best decision I have made in a long while. The tires run super quiet and feel like you're riding on a cloud. Grip is amazing in dry weather and is exceptional in wet, snowy, and packed snow conditions. Cornering is tight, launches are crisper and overall ride comfort is amazing. Some of the greatest tires I have ever driven.

I just rolled 50,000 miles on my Benz. The OEM tires got about 22K miles. I live in Phoneix where it rarely rains and is plenty warm most of the year. I would say I drive somewhere above average - but below spirited. The tires aren't the quietest, but not bad by any stretch. I don't require super sporty tires, just tires that last (these have almost 30K miles on them)and provide adequate responsiveness. Also, I'm religious about rotating them every 7-10K miles. For the price, you really can't beat these tires. They are getting close to the wear bars and I'll probably order another set.

Good tire. They are a bit heavier and stickier than my last set of Falken Sincera SN-828 which hurts my MPG by a little over 1 MPG, but these tires have a lot of grip at a great price. I will have to watch for tire wear, but it is too early to tell on that. I also don't use my summer tires in the winter so I won't be able to respond to that. So far so good. Very good price for this tire. They provide a lot of grip. No noticeable road noise even with windows down. I am happy so far.

Trailer Tires Offered at Tire Rack

Wednesday, June 25, 2014 by Zig Ziegler

Now is the time of year to get our campers, RVs and utility trailers out of storage and ready for summer trips. Before hitting the road, you need to look at the tires' wear and age. You'll also need to see if there are any bubbles, tread separations or cracks.

Our experience has been that when properly stored and cared for, most street tires have a useful life in service of between six to ten years. Unfortunately, no one is absolutely sure of how long tires will last because of many variables. Heavily loaded tires equipped on vehicles stored outdoors in sunny, hot climates and only driven occasionally face some of the most severe service conditions and potentially have the shortest calendar lifespan. In contrast, lightly loaded tires on vehicles parked in garages and driven daily in moderate climates experience some of the least severe service conditions and potentially have the longest lifespan.

If you need to replace tires on your camper, RV or utility trailer, take a look at the Power King Towmax STR, Goodyear Marathon Radial and Kumho Radial 857.

 Power King Towmax STR
Power King Towmax STR
 Goodyear Marathon Radial
Goodyear Marathon Radial
 Kuhmo Radial 857
Kumho Radial 857

Towmax STR tires feature a symmetric tread design with a solid center rib to provide constant rubber-to-road contact to enhance highway stability, traction and wear. The tire’s internal structure features twin steel belts (15” and 16” sizes are reinforced with a nylon cap ply that further stabilizes the tread to increase durability). The Towmax STR’s rounded profile and polyester cord body are designed to help smooth out the trailer's ride.

Marathon Radial tires feature a rounded profile to enhance ride quality and a symmetric tread design with a solid center rib to provide constant rubber-to-road contact that delivers dependable highway stability, traction and long-lasting wear. Internally, the Marathon Radial features twin steel belts (with select sizes reinforced with nylon cap plies) that stabilize the tread to increase traction and durability.

The Radial 857 features a 4-rib design to provide dependable highway stability, traction and durability. It also has twin steel belts that stabilize the tread to increase traction, while a 2-ply, polyester cord body helps even out the trailer's ride.

If your camper, RV or utility trailer is due for a tire upgrade, be sure to shop by size and compare the trailer tires available for your application.

THere are numerous evaluaton which state that XC 90 eat up tires. These tire look like brand new after 13000 miles in North Eat PA which s notorious for bad roads and nasty winter driving. Best tires I ever used. They provide exreeme convidence in all driving conditions. Neevr experience a prblem in snow or water. Actually drive off roada few times again traction was excelent. TOwed atriler with a Quad up a a very steep washout in the snow and these tires did not skip a beat. I woudl highly recomend these tires for a volvo xc 90

Kumho Ecsta PA31: All-Season Traction at a Great Price

Thursday, May 15, 2014 by Zig Ziegler

The Ecsta PA31 is Kumho's newest introduction to the High Performance All-Season performance category. It's also currently ranked number one in our survey results. Ecsta PA31 tires are typically at a price-point that's a little lower when compared to similar options. These tires would be a great choice for drivers of mid-level sports cars, sporty coupes and high-performance sedans, such as BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz and others.

Designed to provide high performance handling in wet and dry conditions, the tire also delivers Kumho’s unparalleled combination of ride comfort, low noise and all-season traction, even in light snow.

 Kuhmo Ecsta PA31
Kuhmo Ecsta PA31
 Kuhmo Ecsta PA31
Kuhmo Ecsta PA31

Ecsta PA31 tires feature an advanced technology tread compound that blends high performance handling and all-season traction with long treadwear. Its compound is molded into a mildly directional tread design that promotes even wear, responsive steering, cornering stability and braking traction in all-season conditions. The directional tread design’s four circumferential and multiple cross grooves help expel water quickly to resist hydroplaning and improve wet weather traction.

If your drive demands a tire with a performance edge, quiet ride and all-season traction, and you're looking to get the most performance for your dollar, take a look at the Kumho Ecsta PA31!

Bought a pair for the front my 93 Sunbird SE,everyday work car. These tires out performed any tire I have ever owned. I never rotated them, always been on the front of a FWD car. I have pushed these tires to the test with hard cornering and fast accelerations at times. I have a 3.1 V6 with a lot of torque, with stock tires on hard acceleration would easily spin, these tire barely squealed, and grabbed the road. Had great traction in wet weather and really no hydroplaning, unless hitting a large puddle at a high speed, but manageable. These tires ran smooth and had grate responsiveness. I live in New England and these tires are not for winter driving, they do okay in a few inches of snow but beyond that you need to run dedicated snow tires! Great tire based on performance and price! I have had Kumho tires on other vehicles I owned and have always performed well! Do your homework and read the reviews see what best fits your driving needs. Good luck and I hope this helps

SO far I have to say I am VERY impressed with ride quality, low tread noise and excellent wet traction. They balanced perfectly, NO shimmy all the way to 90 mph, I mean not a trace! Well see about winter traction, I suspect they will be good. My car is AWD and last season the KU-27's got me through almost three feet of snow at half tread depth....no easily mind you but three feet of snow is not a cake walk for any car. Will

These Kumho tires replaced the original Continentals on my BMW 528, and I like them better overall. They are noticeably quieter and smoother riding than the old Continentals. Steering precision and road feel seem reduced a tiny bit, but the handling feels the same overall. No problems on dry or wet pavement, no hydroplaning through puddles. They have much better traction in snow than the Continentals (which were awful). They have a good treadwear rating, so I'm hoping for a long tread life.
