Initial Review, 16,000 Miles on Tires
May 12, 2012

This tire replaced the OEM that went over 60,000 miles. Initially, the ride comfort and noise level was acceptable. The traction, both wet and dry, is excellent. As the tire aged, the noise level increased. At 15,000 miles, the noise sounds like I'm running winter tires with a very aggressive tread. The wear is still very, very low and traction is still excellent. The tires run smooth at all speeds, but are very noisy on certain types of pavement. As a tire for a performance car, this is hard to beat for the price and the traction and handling. As a tire for a car that should have a nice, quiet ride, there are others out there that will beat this tire.

Best tires I have ever bought in my 50 years of buying tires! I rode on the factory installed Dunlop Sport 5000 tires and was disappointed that Hyundai would install such a hard riding and noisy tire on their luxury vehicle. After buying the Yokohama Avid Ascends, my Hyundai Genesis rides like a true luxury automobile like I expected when I bought it. I bought these tires and the next day we had a snowstorm. They handled extremely well in the snow and are awesome on dry pavement. As a bonus, because they are LRR (Low Rolling Resistance) tires, my mileage improve almost 2 miles per gallon. They are also made in America so we keep a few jobs here and that's not so bad either!

After driving my Genesis on factory installed Dunlop 5000 Sport tires for 8000 miles, I switched them for the Yokohama Avid Ascend tires. I have finally gotten the luxury ride that the Genesis was supposedly designed to give. It is too bad that Hyundai, who put a lot of thought into their luxury vehicle went ahead and ruined it all by putting on a set of inferior tires. The Yokohama Avid Ascend tires are the best tires I have ever owned! They grip exceptionaly well, are extremely quiet and give a nice soft but firm ride. I couldn't be more pleased with these tires. As a bonus, because it it a LRR tire, I have also gotten another 2 miles per gallon in overall fuel economy. I would recommend these tires to anyone.

Had to replace these tires with only 11,000 miles on them, hit a small pot hole and and a bulge on one of the tires. The ride was not to bad, but the road noise was unbearable, unless you were on smooth pavement. The steering was heavy with these tires. On dry pavement the traction was very good. Wet roads traction was not bad, but on snow, forget it they are worthless. Do not buy these tires.
Bought a new set of Michelin Primacy MXM4 and wow what a diference. Better handling ultra quite.

Replaced Dunlop SP5000 Sports that came with the 2010 Genesis 4.6 V8. A world of difference noticed in the first 20 miles. Previous ride was hard and jittery. Now the ride is smooth, absent of road noise and handles with confidence. The unsettled ride issue (the only complaint many Genesis owner's made on Genesis forums) is gone. I feel like I'm back into the BMW 5 series I drove for 4 years!

The research done at Tire Rack was very helpful, easy to compare tires, make a decision and delivery was in 2 days. I followed the instructions and the installation at Tire Kingdom went off without a hitch. And, the price was RIGHT.

I'll update my opinion after a couple thousand miles.

I made a mistake and bought the Continental DWS based on the reviews here. On my Genesis, the DWS's pulled hard right even after an alignment. The Genesis has no camber adjustment so whatever tires you put on it better track straight. The dealer believes that it is the tread pattern of the DWS that caused the problem. The dealer sent the DWS back and we replaced them with four of the new General G Max AS-03. The minute we put them on my Genesis, the pulling problem was solved and the car tracked straight. These tires are as quiet as the DWS and the car really feels connected to the road. These General tires are ultra high performance all season. They are not soft mushy tires. I would even consider putting these on my SL500. So far, I am really pleased with these tires. I will write another update after I put a couple of thousand miles on them.

I have had these tires for 6000 miles now. I dont like people who write reviews early in the tire life but I need to say this. I have the H rated tires as they are alittle cheaper. The good about these tires is that so far they are very quite and very comfortable. The negatives is there grip is not great, these are the only tires I have felt scared from when driving in the rain. They are slippery on dry roads, do not handle that great, and in rain there have been times I honestly thought the car was swimmin in water. I got touring tires because I can not afford to keep buying tires at 30000 miles as my last to performance sets lasted only that. So if they last past 60000 miles then I guess I got what I wanted. But I wish I had my Goodyear Eagle GTs back on her right now.

I really like to have tires with good wet weather/rain traction and the Yokahama's that I purchased about 18 months back that were rated high in this area really ----ed. Not only did they come up lacking for wet weather traction they would readily spin on dry pavement so I yanked them at 18,000 miles. Up to this point in the tire life these tires have proved to be great in the rain, are VERY quiet, and the handling is superb.

These tires came stock on my 2009 Hyundai Accent GS hatchback and I was impressed from the beginning. For being such a small tire they grip well on dry and wet surfaces and had the chance to test them in snow also and when driven on properly, it was almost impossible to slip. I took off my Michelin X-Ice snows and replaced them with these again and I have no regrets.

Initial Review, 6,000 Miles on Tires
April 15, 2012

Recently purchased these tires for my 11' Sonata at the beginning of the winter to replace a set of Yokohama Avid's that were just awful. Right away I noticed a substantial difference in ride comfort, smoothness and noise. We live in Colorado where the weather can change in a matter of minutes. With the first snowfall I just had to test them out on the twisty slick mountain roads and they performed beautifully. Light snow traction was great and deep snow wasn't much worse. They are no dedicated winter tire but for your average driver that doesn't push the limits, these tires are all you need.
I also had them out in a pouring rain storm. Tried to get them to slip but it was next to impossible. To get these tires to fail you in the rain, you'd have to be driving in a way that almost no tire could handle and TRYING to wreck yourself.

Recently, we got caught in a bad snowstorm on the highway. It was perfect timing after the storm started but before the plow trucks could get to it so it was nasty. Whiteout conditions and easily 3 inches of heavy wet slushy snow on the roadway that hadn't been plowed yet. These tires were solid as a rock! My traction control never even had to take over. I felt safe that these tires would hold their own in bad conditions and they did! Highly recommended tire for the casual driver.

As for treadwear, I just inspected my tires after the winter and I see almost no noticeable treadwear. All siping and everything still there. I think these tires will last.
If your looking for all-season flexibility but don't want to sacrifice too much in the snow, these tires will get you around.

Initial Review, 40,000 Miles on Tires
April 15, 2012

I bought these tires not doing enough research to realize they were winter tires, so that is bad on me. However, I have driven roughly 40,000 miles on them, and they have held up well, from -30 to 100 degrees farenheit. I first got them in the winter and was able to hold corners at 15-20 mph in 5 inches of snow. Like one of the other reviewers, they easily handle speeds WELL in excess of posted speed limits here in the U.S. I never had traction issues in any conditions, year round. The biggest issue I had with them is the loss in fuel economy while driving conservatively versus the OEM tires that came with the car. The tread wear was probably exacerbated by the fact that my driving is more aggressive than most, and I used the tires in all seasons. I will attest to the fact that the winter weather handling of these tires helped me avoid several collisions on the roadway.

This is the second set of Assurance Comfortreds I have owned, the first being on an older Mazda 626 that I retired when I purchased this Sonata in 2006. On both cars, these tires seem to pick up some vibration from the 4-cylinder engine, and you definitely feel small imperfections in the road. Larger potholes are smoothed over effectively, so they would make great tires for city use. In the snow, they are nearly as good as winter tires, and I know a Dodge Charger owner near here that actually uses them as his winter treads.

Compared to the OEM Michelins on the Sonata, these handle better, especially on curvy back roads, but the Michelins are smoother on the highway. Will probably have the Comfortreds rebalanced after break-in as there is a slight vibration at highway speeds. Will report back then.

My 2011 Azera Limited came through with Michelin MXV4 Plus Green's and the ride has been rough and increasing noise from the very beginning as the tires wore on. Hyundai said it was because of the "European Driving Style Design" associated with the car! Baloney!! I switched at 12K to the Continental EC DWS and have experienced a 90% reduction in noise and a 90% increase in ride comfort!! The Michelin OEM's are made of a Green coumpound and designed to go 60K which right off the bat tells you it probably will ride harder...and they did from day one regardless of tire pressure or alignment. I have owned Michelins for over 35 years on all of my Toyotas and Hondas, all with the older compound for smoother, less niosy rides. I will never buy another " new compound" Michelin! The higher grade models of Hyundai's all come with Continental DW tires...that tells you something for sure. Way to go Continental!

This tire is a tremendous improvement over the OEM ones shipped with the car. I rotate these religiously but otherwise abuse them regularly and they have stood up very well to my driving.

My only complaint is that there is a loud thumping or chopping sound that shows up every time I rotate the tires around. The alignment is fine, the rims are fine, but these tires are just loud. This can get annoying at times and at first I took the car in to have my wheel bearings checked, it is that loud. Once I get to highway speeds (70+) it either goes away or is blended into the rest of the road noise. At 40 or below, it can get distracting.

Bought these for my 20122 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. On my last car I had Blizzak WS60's and was pleased with those. I like the newer WS70's for all things except noise. I found these tires to be much louder than the WS60's. Not sure if it is due to different car but when turning, especially at slow speeds, the tires made a loud humming sound. On the highway they were fine but around town the noise was more than I expected.

Tire performance itself was very good. On snow, ice, and wet roads they perform very well. I was never nervous going out in a storm with these tires on. Stopping on icy roads or snow covered roads was never a worry this past winter.

Alternative Sizes for the Nissan Murano

Wednesday, March 28, 2012 by Hunter Leffel

Another vehicle that can present some challenges in regards to options for replacement tires is the Nissan Murano. Introduced in 2009, it came equipped with 235/55R20 sized tires. Currently, there are only a few options being offered in the O.E. size.

As an alternate size that'll provide more choices, we recommend 255/50R20. This size is approximately 3/4" wider and a mere 1/5" shorter than the original 235/55R20. We also list 265/50R20 tires as options that'll fit the original wheel without rubbing. This 265/50R20 size is 4/10" wider and taller than the 255/50R20.

Yokohama Parada Spec-X
Yokohama Parada Spec-X
Bridgestone Dueler Alenza
Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza

Between these three sizes, you'll find a variety of options to consider, including the Yokohama Parada Spec-X and Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza

Fast approaching on 20 million miles reported, the Dueler H/L Alenza consistently delivers in all key areas, such as wet and dry traction, ride comfort and longevity. It comes backed with a 65,000-mile treadlife warranty and a 30 Day Buy & Try Guarantee

The Yokohama Parada Spec-X has been at or near the top of the Street/Sport Truck All-Season category for a few years now. With over 5 million miles reported on, you'll see a gain in wet and dry traction over the Bridgestone. While there are other tires available, start your search with these options from Yokohama and Bridgestone as they are two of the most popular options for your Nissan Murano.

Looking for tires for a vehicle other than a Nissan Murano? Be sure to take a look at a few of my blog posts on tire options for different vehicles:
