Been loving driving your 2009 Dodge Journey so much that it's time for tires? The Original Equipment 225/55R19 Kumho Solus KH16 is the only tire offered in that size. Lately, there has been very limited availabilty on that tire. Looking for some other options?
Let me suggest changing to size 235/55R19. This size is only .4" taller and .4" wider than the original tire. That equates to about the width of a pinky finger. This size will fit on the factory 19 inch wheels.
Here are a couple great options to take a look at.

If you currently have the 225/55R19 you can easily use 235/55R19.
Thanks,
Hunter
What if we wanted to go with a 18" tire and wheel with same overall diamater? What tire size options could we use then? Is there an issue with wheel back spacing? Thank you.
Thanks for your inquiry. The Journey can accept a 18 inch wheel and tire. I would be happy to discuss those options in detail with you. Just give me a call at 1-800-429-8355 ext 744
The number you listed can not be used from my calling area.( Canada) Is there an 18" alternative for the Dodge Journey 225/55R19?
Thanks in Advance!
A 225/60R18 will work. Of course you have to buy new wheels as well. you can call 574-287-2345 if the 800 number fails you. again my extension is 744.
Thanks!
I would not advise mixing sizes on that vehicle.
Thanks,
Hunter
We show the 2009 SXT has 225/65R17. Of course it always best to look at the tires you have on the vehicle to verify.
Thanks!
Hunter
I am from south africa & I cannot get the dodge journey tyres anywhere in south africa, what would be an letrnative size 225/55r19
Regards
Felicity
Thanks,
Hunter
With the alternate suggested size being .4" taller, there will be a 1.5% difference in distance traveled with each rotation. The industry guideline is anything within 3% is acceptable.
Thanks!
your vehicle can run a 16" setup. If you want to give me call I wil be happy to discuss options we have to offer you. I can be reached at 800 428 8355 ext 744.
Thanks,
Hunter
You would need to purchase a 19" tire, be that the 225/55R19 or the alternate 235 suggested in the blog. A 17 inch tire will not fit on your wheels.
Thanks,
Hunter
Those are wider than I am comfortable recommending without any rub.
Thanks,
Hunter
Thanks, George
The widest size we recommend is 245/60R17 for the Journey in a 17 inch.
Thanks,
Hunter
A couple things, first would be verify running size 235/55R19 all around. That is to say all 4 tires are the same size. If all 4 are the same and is a size within the 3% rule, you may need some diagnosis at a dealer.
You would need 15" wheels to even think about 235/75R15. We show the SXT comes with 17" wheels.
If you are open to buying new wheels, our info indicates a 15" is too small to clear the brake hardware. You could downsize to 16" if you wanted, again would require purchasing wheels in addition to the tires.
Thanks,
Hunter
The 245/55R19 willbe about an inch taller overall. I am not able to guarantee fitment with that much of a diameter increase. If you want more sidewall, then buying 18" wheels would be a better approach. If you want to close the wheel well gap, then lowering the vehicle is the best approach to that.
Thanks,
Hunter
Does 235/55R19 fit my Journey SE 2012?
It appears same fitment on the 2012, so yes, those will work.
Thanks
Hunter
We recommend 235/55R19. A 225/50R19 will be almost an inch shorter and we would not recommend that much of a drop in size.
Thanks,
Hunter

You can downsize your vehicle. The best way to view downsize wheel options and tire sizes is to shop by vehicle for winter product.
I am in Australia and my tyre outlet has suggested 235/45R19s as replacements. Would these work?
I am sorry but we do not have 22" recommended sizes for the Journey.
A 255 is a bit wider than comfortable recommending. It could rub. The recommended alternate size is 235/55R19.
Thanks
Thanks for your question. There are multiple winter tire options in the alternate 19" size, 235/55/R19.
We also have wheel and tire packages available in wheels sizes down to 16"
Take good care,
Hunter
I wouldn't recommend mixing the sizes. They are different diameters, which could possibly lead to some issues with abs and traction control when mixed. If you have an all wheel drive it could damage the drive train as well. Again this is only in the case of mixing the sizes
It is possible that one 16" hits and another fits perfectly due to variations in design and specifications other than just diameter. The 16 inch wheels we sell are guaranteed to fit on an unmodified vehicle
235/55R19 is the only alternate size we recommend.
Thanks, Wil
We do not show that 15" wheels will fit on the Journey.
I would not recommend mixing tire sizes.
Thanks.
Sure you can put 19" on the Journey. Just go to Tirerack.com and enter your vehicle then click on wheels. There will be 19" options shown that are guaranteed to fit.
Thanks.
At this time we are not recommending down sizing on the 2012. The brake caliper and rotor is larger than previous years.
Sorry but 245/55R19 looks to be too tall to fit.
The easiest wayto go about this is shopping by vehicle at tirerack.com. After you enter the vehicle info click on winter. This will walk you through the various options in smaller diameter wheel sizes
Sorry that isgoing to be about an inch too short. I would not recommend that.
You can use a 235/65R17 or 245/60R17 on that.
I have a 2010 Dodge Journey sxt with 225/55/R19 on it now. Can I switch to 17" rims and tires?
The 2010 Journey can run 17: wheels and tires. You can view these on the website by entering your vehicle then clicking on Winter. This is the only way to see minus sized wheels at the current time.
What is the best deal?
The last set I bought from your company have aproximately 35,000 highway miles and are in need of replacement.
Thank you for your help.
The best thing to do for pricing is check our website as pricing does change. Be sure to check the original size as well as the alternate size in the blog post.
Witht he alternate being .4" taller it will introduce an error. In this case it will be about 1.4%. So when travelling 100 miles an hour your speedometer will read 101.4. The industry views errors under 3% as accepteable
I bought a used Dodge Journey that has 245/55/19 tires. The vehicle needed an alignment which caused some wear on the inside of my tires. The vehicle seems to ride pretty good with this size and they are cheaper than the original sizes. What do you recommend? What is the difference between the 235/55/19 and a 245/55/19?
The 245 will be 1/2" wider and taller than the 235 we recommend. While it is larger than we are comfortable with, if it fits, you should be OK.
When you shop by vehicle, for the most part we will show you items that will fit without rubbing. If there is a fitment issue, it will be shown int he important notes section of each wheel and tire.
24" wheels are larger than we are comfortable recommending for your vehicle.
We do not recommend replacing tires in less than sets of 4. it can cause handling imbalances in some situations
I am sorry but we do not offer 22" options for the Journey. as such I will notbe able to confirm fitment in that size.
I am sorry but we do nmonitor space under vehicles for mounting spares. I would try the Dodge dealer for guidance on that.
Looks like we recommend 245/55R18.
