My Tire's Sidewall is Bulging. Now What?

A break, bulge or bubble in the sidewall of your tire is typically the result of an impact that damaged the tire casing's fabric reinforcing plies. This means only thin layers of rubber remains to contain air inside the tire. Replacing the tire as soon as possible is the best path forward.

If you have road hazard coverage, this should be a covered event. Tire Rack offers a two-year program for free on most passenger tires. This is a program unmatched in the industry. Not only does the protection cover sidewall bubbles, it also pertains to other other obstacles like curb road debris, as well as other hazards, such as nails or glass. All of these can result in varying degrees of damage. While we do honor manufacturer warranties, there are cases in which you'll need this additional protection as road hazard is not covered by your tire workmanship warranty.

Tire Rack Tire Road Hazard program allows you to go to any tire repair facility in the United States for service. You will need to pay for the repair or replacement and submit the invoice for reimbursement. The program runs for 24 months or until the tire reaches 2/32" of tread depth, whichever comes first. In the case of a repairable tire, you would be eligible for up to a $25 reimbursement per occurrence. When the damage is more severe and not repairable, reimbursement is at 100% of the original price for the entire 24 month period.

There are some restrictions that can be reviewed in detail in the protection certificate, and the following are the most common:

  • Coverage is available in the 48 continental states only
  • LT, trailer and competition tires are not eligible
  • Tire Rack original retail price over $410 are not eligible
