Michelin Pilot Super Sport: One Year Later

Friday, June 1, 2012 by Hunter Leffel

Michelin Pilot Super SportTouted as the best performance tire available, the Michelin Pilot Super Sport has been on the market for about a year. Replacing the highly regarded and proven Pilot Sport PS2, the tire's more aggressive pricing, promise of longer life and more performance capabilities, caused a lot of excitement.

Starting with our Tire Survey Results, the tire is currently ranked number one in the Max Performance Summer category. It's also ranked first in every individual category, giving the Pilot Super Sport a clean sweep. Take a look at what customers are saying about their experience with this great tire:

"These Pilot Super Sports are amazing. They grip harder than anything I've ever felt, and my road noise is completely gone." --  Tire Rack Consumer Review, 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution MR

"Driven hard in dry conditions they handle much like R compounds. Driven hard in the rain and they are phenomenal!" -- Tire Rack Consumer Review, 2007 Audi S8 Sedan

"These tires allow you to track the car all day at Daytona or Road America where you are hitting 190 and above and then drive home like you are in a Lexus."  -- Tire Rack Consumer Review, 2011 Ferrari 458 Italia

Tire Rack sponsored the 2012 One Lap of America and just like last year the Super Sport was on top in wet skid pad and dry skid pad. It also took top overall honors. View complete results.

And finally, during our independent testing, the Pilot Super Sport was once again number one. We tested the newest entries from Bridgestone, Pirelli and Continental and the Michelin was definitely up to the task. Our overall impression was: "Wow" handling and ultimate traction."  For a full test report read "Clash of the Titans: Testing Two New Max Performance Summer Heavy Hitters."

The Super Sport is certainly meeting the expectations of performance drivers. If you're looking for the best in a Max Performance Summer tire, you'll want to seriously consider this great option from Michelin for your next set.
