Tire Rack Consumer Review of the Michelin X-Ice Xi3

Very impressive. I've had these, Firestone Winterforce, and Blizzak WS-80's. The overriding plus is great slush and ice traction, coupled with a quiet highway road. It's hard to rate absolute performance vs. the WS-80's, since these are on the FWD Focus while my WS-80's are on the beastly (in the snow) AWD Subaru. But in braking and cornering, and general...  Read More

Tire Rack Consumer Review of the Dunlop Winter Maxx

I spent way too long looking at winter tire options, and tireracks' website was by far the most useful.Regarding the Winter Maxx, I liked the reports of good tread wear and general all-round high marks for this tire, combined with the price. (There was a rebate going on.) I purchased the tires with new black steel wheels and had them mounted/balanced by...  Read More

Tire Rack Consumer Review of the General Grabber AT 2

Had BFG AT/KO tires before and although mostly satisfied with all aspects except snow I wanted to try a different tire. I wanted BFG TA KO2 tires, but my size is not available until November. I needed tires now, after comprehensive research which really ends up confusing as there are as many one stars as there are five for most tires. Frankly these tires...  Read More

Tire Rack Consumer Review of the General G-MAX AS-03

I've had these on a 2008 550i for 50k and they have been great tires. I've never been a fan of Generals but a friend of mine had them on a 911 and raved about them. I figured for the price I'd try them out and I have been impressed. Great in the rain and even with very little tread wear left, they hold in a downpour(however I drive more cautiously knowing...  Read More

Tire Rack Consumer Review of the General Altimax Arctic

For having a RWD car as my daily driver and considering the Miata's small size, people said I was going to have a tough time travelling during the winter. My buddy reccomended these tires for winter since he had a set that worked really well. I have not had any issues driving in snow, sleet and freezing rain as they kept traction at all times. These tires...  Read More

Tire Rack Consumer Review of the General Grabber AT 2

Bought tires just before winter of 2013 and never looked back. Very happy with the tire all around. They wear like iron, have 25,000 miles on the set and can't tell. Winter snow in the Snow Belts in Michigan can be problem for some, but with these tires I never have to worry. Tire noise on dry payment is as good as highway tires on my wife's van. Tire's...  Read More

Tire Rack Consumer Review of the General Altimax Arctic

I have had these for over 4 years (2010 build date) on my Subaru Outback as daily usage tires and have over 70,000 miles on them with only 1 rotation. Front wear is nearing limits, rear is still around 60% tread.ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL! This is my 3rd set of AltiMAX Arctics on 3 vehicles, prior to that I religiously used Nokian Hakkapellitta Q and RSI models....  Read More

I live in Chicago. I drive a 6 cylinder front-wheel drive pontiac. I drive the car very hard. I bought these tires after hours of research. I could not decide between a set of winter tires or good soft all season tires. I went with these because they are the highest rated all season tires on this website. I am very happy with them. I cannot say enough about...  Read More

Tire Rack Consumer Review of the Dunlop Winter Maxx

3,500 miles of mixed dry and light snow (<4) and i have to say that i do recommend this tire versus no snow tire at all. They PALE in comparison to my old Blizzak ws-60 (sadly not offered anymore) because the Wintermaxxx's have a more standard tire design for dry comfort and noise, instead of thick chunky tread blocks that are unparalleled on snow and ice. With that more traditional design, the blocks are much closer together, giving slightly less traction on snow and ice than the Blizzaks. As this is a sport coupe, I took my time on heavy snow and anything more than 5 mph would cause the car to slide sideways. The tires did a good job at gripping upon braking however, and I know that my summer tires would simply spin. While not the very best winter tire, Dunlop has made a good overall tire for the 90% of winter in NJ that is dry and salt-covered. Treadwear has been very good with rubber stips still apparent after 3,500 of generally easy miles. Handling is appropriate for a winter tire, which is to say much softer than a standard tire, but that's to be expected. For the price, I'd recommend these to anyone looking to have a safe commute in winter months. Adding some weight to the trunk (RWD) and applying smooth acceleration will give you best feedback with these tires. I know many companies are creating winter tires that mimic summer tires for noise and comfort, but bring back the blocky tread design Dunlop! Overall, well executed tires at a reasonable price. Much cheaper than crashing and dealing with insurance premiums for years!   Read More

Tire Rack Consumer Review of the Pirelli Winter Snowcontrol Serie 3

Great snow tire for the Fiat 500 Abarth. Good performance in snow/ice and allows no-drama commuting in poor conditions. Blows right through light and deeper snow. Can get a little bit of hydro plaining on slushy mix once they salt streets but only at higher speeds and deeper slush/water. Handling in general is great at 7/10s but I purposely dial it back a...  Read More

Tire Rack Consumer Review of the General Altimax Arctic

Best winter tire I've ever owned at a fantastic price. Less noise than other snow tires I've used. A bit squirmy in the dry (but I do have a 3,800 pound car on narrow snows to begin with--what would one expect?) but stable. Handling is OK, it's a snow tire. Grips better than expected on ice. Have never let me down, and may never go with a different snow...  Read More

Tire Rack Consumer Review of the General G-MAX AS-03

I was skeptical about getting these tires in February, as I usually use winter tires. But I purchased a used vehicle and I wanted something that would do for the rest of the winter and be used just for summers after that. The reviews by owners of SUVs and large cars made me believe that the G-Max would have no problems in up to 2 of snow. Frankly, I am blown...  Read More

I put these on my Sonata to replace the stock tires which were the worst winter tires I've ever owned. These made me feel secure well beyond what I had hoped, the traction in snow was worlds better then the Hankook tires on my car at half the price. I'd recommend these to anyone that's having problems with traction in snow.   Read More

After much investigation, decided to buy these tires. Was a little concerned about noise complaints, but found this to be overblown. Tires are reasonably quiet and ride is very comfortable. I used the General Altimax Arctics (175/65R14) on dedicated 14 steelies from TireRack for three snowy winters in Wisconsin, including one in which we had over 100 inches of snow that season. So I've seen everything from light snows, slushy mixes, deep snow, blizzard dumping 18 of snow in 24 hours causing snowplows to get stuck, and everything in between....  Read More
