We live on a hill, these tires are the best I've gotten for the Price. I've had the Duellers (they are good all around tires) but not like these in snow or mud. Also had Mich, but they ride harder. The only complaint I have is at highway speeds the tires are noisy. Not to the point where you can't talk in the car, but you do hear them.

I have really loved this last set. I will definately go back with these. I have 2006 corvette and the factory tires were extremely loud. these have been very quite up till now and they are still better than the original foctory tires. Traction was awesome off the line. I have nitrogen in my tires and this stiffened up the cornering so it is hard to say about the handling but i love them on my car. I have never lost traction in the rain or on wet surfaces. I would highly recommend these tires.

After 32,000 miles of combined driving on a lifted 2004 Jeep Liberty 4x4 I would recommend this tire as a great all around choice, good quiet tire yet very good traction on asphalt, rock, ice, snow and dirt. Very quiet on grooved concrete freeways. At 32k miles, they are pretty well due to be replaced. On a 4300 lbs vehicle, was hoping for a little longer wear. Very happy overall.

So far the tires have performed to my expectations. If I had it to do over again i would have gotten the same tire in a 245 section as there was hardly any price difference. They were good at the last Autocross, we had nice weather and they felt responsive and predictable, good overall grip level. Wear has been unnoticeable at 3000 miles. I started Autocrossing on All seasons and these are a good stepping stone to the higher class Continental ExtremeContactDW max performance summers I plan to move on to. But I don't regret these, I may buy again, but in the 245/40R18 size.

This is a great tire, but I can find this tire much cheaper at my local tire dealer. Bridgestone/Firestone have made a great economy tire to compete against some of the lesser brands. Most of the Fuzions still carry the Uni-T technology that Bridgestone/Firestone offer. To the user at the bottom. . . It's a "HIGHWAY" tire for a reason. It isn't meant for off-road ventures. Maybe you should do a little more research before you buy next time!

I presently have 56k miles on the tires and they are almost 4 1/2 years old. Like most tires they loose some traction as they age & wear but so far they have been doing great. These tires are just now squealing when taking tight corners at speed. I also tow a trailer and they handle the extra load just fine. This is the first set of tires I've exceeded the treadwear life and expect to get another 3k-4k miles on them this summer before replacing them in the fall.

Initial Review, 20,000 Miles on Tires
April 27, 2012

I replaced the OE Continental's on my 2003 Passat GLS sedan with a set of Bridgestone Potenza G 009 Grid's and was very pleased for the first few thousand miles. But then they started to get noisy. By the time they reached 20,000 miles they weren't just noisy, they were downright loud so I went back to the Firestone dealer to discuss the issue. They admitted to having similar complaints from other customers and subsequently offered to provide me with a partial credit under warranty towards the purchase of another set of tires. By this time Bridgestone had introduced the Potenza G 019 Grid to replace the G 009, and the dealer told me the noise issues had been resolved with the new design. Instead of following my initial instinct I bought a set of the Potenza G 019 Grid's. That turned out to be a very bad decision as my experience with the G 019's has been exactly the same as their predecessor - they were fine for the first few thousand miles, but then they started to sound as if the belts were beginning to separate. With 20,000 miles they’re now so loud I can hardly stand to drive the car for anything but short distances. So it’s time for another set of tires, which is too bad because the performance of the Potenza G 019’s is very good – they’re perfectly acceptable to me in most wet and dry conditions, as well as light snow. But the noise is a total deal breaker. Sorry Bridgestone – I’m moving on.

The All-New Firestone Destination LE2

Tuesday, May 1, 2012 by Hunter Leffel

For years, the Firestone Destination LE has been a favorite in the line-up for SUV and light truck applications. Since 2001 the marketplace has changed from a light duty pickup truck dominated arena to a crossover utility vehicle (CUV) dominated market segment. A corresponding change in tire demands has also occurred. From primarily utility focused for the pickup, to a quiet and comfortable ride with good handling for the CUV owner. Firestone recognizes this change by releasing the second-generation Destination LE2

A bold new sidewall design looks great on everything from the traditional pickup truck to the newer CUVs and premium SUVs. The tread pattern has evolved to utilize the latest in tread design and tire construction. With a primary focus on ride and character of the newer vehicles in the marketplace, the tire's tread pattern has been optimized through noise sequencing to provide noise reduction. The footprint has also been computer optimized, which aids in even contact pressure, a quiet ride and even treadwear. A closed shoulder design also assists in even treadwear and the desired ride. This feature provides stability in cornering, too. Circumferential grooves along with the sweeping slots move water out from under the tire. Additionally, zigzag sipes provide cutting edges for ice, snow and wet traction. Rolling resistance has been improved to provide better fuel economy through the use of silica. It also helps to provide consistent grip in the wet through the life of the tire.

Destination LE2 tires are the first tire line to achieve Firestone's eco-product status for improvements over its predecessor.

  • Improved rolling resistance*
  • Environmentally friendly
  • Lower weight - reduces raw material use
  • Longer lasting

View all available sizes to see if the Destination LE2 will fit your light-duty pickup, van, crossover or sport utility vehicle.

*A 15% reduction in rolling resistance compared to first-generation Destination LE for an approximate 2% improvement in vehicle fuel economy

Mud Tires: It's the Season

Thursday, April 26, 2012 by Alex Mouroulis

With the temperature getting warmer, it's time to get your rig ready and hit the trails! The following tires are a few of our best sellers and would be a great fit for this year's mud season.

BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM2
BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM2
Firestone Destination M/T
Firestone Destination
M/T
Yokohama Geolandar M/T Plus
Yokohama Geolandar
M/T Plus

The Mud-Terrain T/A KM2 is inspired by BFGoodrich's extremely competitive T/A Krawler competition tire. It's a much more civilized ride with very good mud-clearing capability. TriGard internal construction and chip-resistant compounds both contribute to sidewalls that resist pinch flats at low pressure and produce sidewall cords that are 33% stronger than the previous Mud-Terrain T/A KM tires.

Firestone Destination M/T tires bring a very civilized road ride for such an open and aggressive tire. The tire features UNI-T technology and provides great wet traction capability. Long Link Carbon, a special form of molecular re-engineered carbon black, helps to resist sidewall cuts and abrasions on the trails. Not only does this tire work well on the road, but its tread pattern is the most aggressive of these three options. This tire clears extremely well and really shines when digging and biting into sloppy, muddy conditions.

The Yokohama Geolandar M/T Plus features a highly directional tread pattern - a design feature the other two tires lack. This allows the tire to provide excellent hydroplaning resistance. When running oversized, extremely wide tires, the bigger footprint is very subject to lift-up in deep puddles at speed; which the directional pattern can certainly help with this issue. The less aggressive tread patterns are very effective in sandy conditions. I have been dune jumping using the Geolandar M/T Plus and it's definitely up to the challenge.

Whether you're driving on the trails, the beach, or climbing slippery rocks and boulders, don't let anything stand in your way. All three tires are up to the task!

A supplemental review of these tires for my Saturn SC1

When these tires were new they had significantly superior deep snow traction compared to today's performance with about half of the tread worn down. I have always found and still maintain these tires have very good ice performance characteristics for an all season tire and to that end I think you'd need a dedicated winter tire to noticeably out do the ComfortTreds. Light fresh snow is still not a problem even on relatively steep hills.

One thing that troubles me is the substantial loss of wet grip once you start breaking in these tires. At 2k miles traveled the performance was great if not excellent. The 100HP Saturn could not spin these tires from a dead stop in wet conditions which was always the case for the factory Firestone FR680 tires. After about 15k miles on the tire I noticed the traction control indicator light coming on. Its not the level the FR680s were even at the FR680's best but it is troubling that with half of the tread present so much wet performance could be lost. The tires are still predictable and stable so its more of a gripe than anything.

The noise and ride quality of this tire is still exemplary. Driving a Sturn with a mostly plastic outer body I feel I have a special insight on the noise levels that just can't be asserted in all metal cars. My Saturn went from being quite noisy traveling at highway speeds to much quieter. I did not use a noise measuring device but can tell you that a cell phone conversation was not possible at 70mph beforehand where now its no problem. These tires are ridiculously noisy on grooved cement and have very odd feel on grooved pavement.

These tires probably will be replace at 50k to 60k which I feel is acceptable considering hard cornering is my favorite thing in the world. This is not a performance oriented tire. Sidewall flex is a part of the game.

Kosei K1 Racing Wheels for Mazda Miata

Friday, April 20, 2012 by Gary Stanley

Since the warm weather has come upon most of the country earlier than normal this year, I've recently been receiving many inquiries for new performance tires and alloy wheels. While much of your wheel choice comes down to your own cosmetic taste and price, wheel weight and quality are also important factors to consider.

Lighter wheels can make a noticeable difference in the handling of low torque, lightweight vehicles, like my 1994 MAZDA Miata. Looking for a light, high quality and attractive performance alloy wheel for my vehicle, I took a look at the options available from Kosei. While many of their styles look great, I chose the K1 Racing. Below is a photo of my vehicle with the wheels.

Many racers, autocrossers and drivers in the SCCA STR use this wheel due to its great combination of durability, weight and affordable pricing.

When it came time to choose the right tire, I went with the Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval Indy 500 due to its impressive ratings in our Tire Survey Results. I'm going on my seventh year with these wheels, and the silver paint with clearcoat finish still looks like new. I haven't had any issues with bent wheels and to me, the style still looks fresh.

The warm weather is here, so enhance your vehicle's look with a Tire & Wheel Package today!

We replaced are Firestone FR710 ten days ago (at 67,000 miles) with Goodyear Assurance tires. What a difference! The handling, steering and ride quality have vastly improved with the Goodyears (like 10x). At first I was concern about switching tires because the Malibu has given us great fuel economy with the Firestones and worried that the Goodyear Assurances would probably give us increase performance at the cost of fuel economy! The fuel mileage has been about the same and maybe slightly better.

Our Malibu is a commuter and has perform well in that role delivering good mpg, but it always had vague steering and severe under steer, I was surprise that the Goodyears corrected this, the car's handling has improve so much it hard to believe!

Goodyear Assurance ComforTred is a great tire!

I will update this review in November after taking a trip to up state NY and trying them in the snow and bad road conditions of NY and PA.

Ran these tires from the beggining of winter through our unseasonably warm dry spring. Was afraid I would wear them out on the warm dry roads and had them changed today. They don't even look like they were ever mounted by the extremely low tread wear. Would buy them again in a minute. Very smooth ride for a winter tire and reasonable noise level.

Comparing these tires to my previous GoodYears (that were almost twice the price) is depressing. I was skeptical due to their much lower cost but WOW what a great set of tires. I cannot believe how much quieter these things roll. The noise level was drastically reduced and the ride is smoother than before. I am extremely happy with these tires. The tread pattern looks great too! I haven't driven in snow or mud yet so I cannot attest to their traction there. I carry a set of GoTreads though so not too worried about sliding off the road when out in the country.

They handle well in rain too. Much better than my old tires. I have not been at highway speeds in torrential rains but they work fine on the average wet road. They are too new yet to really rate the treadwear but at this price, I would be willing to sacrifice longevity for a smooth, quiet ride.

Excellent value for a great looking tire!

I have these (in p-metric version) on a mildly modified 4Runner (V6) that is carrying the added weight of aftermarket skid plates, control arms, steel wheels, and recovery gear. The Destination ATs look pretty tame but have been through winters in RI, winter driving in ME, offroading in ME, and beach driving in RI and OBX. They've been unstoppable -- kept up with highly modified rigs with MT tires on Bill Burke excursions in the back woods (e.g. way beyond fire access roads) driving over rocks, logs, stumps, etc. at 18 psi. Been cautious in mud, but driven in water up to top of bumper without issue. Soft sand never a problem when appropriately aired down. They ride smoothly and quietly on the highway with no problems when wet or dry at 38 psi. Rotated every 5-7,000 miles. Still have decent tread after approximately 35,000 miles. I highly recommend them and will more than likely get another set in future (although contemplating going from 265/70/17 to 255/75/17 next time).

Have had these tires on a 2003 Dodge 1 ton dually. Average payload is about 4500 lbs. I have over 53,0000 miles on them and there is plenty of tread left to go probably 5000 more miles, but I'm getting a new set to be on the safe side. These are really amazing tires for a work vehicle. Never thought I would get the trouble free miles over 50,000, but I did. Had another set on a F250 - same thing. Get them, you will be pleased.
