Don't forget the spare.

Spring is upon us and as you remove your winter tires and install your summers why not take a few minutes to check your fifth tire -- the temporary spare hiding in the trunk.

Your reinstalled summer tires are most likely a few pounds low on air pressure after the winter making this a great time to check the temporary spare if you haven't done so recently.

We recommend monthly inspection; but it's easy to forget with our busy lives. In addition to low pressure a visual inspection might also be a good idea. Remember your spare is most likely just as old as your vehicle.

Here are a few tech articles that may be helpful:
Checking Tire Inflation Pressure
Determining the Age of a Tire
Tire Aging
Spare Tire Use

If you decide a replacement is needed please contact one of our sales specialists as we stock a limited number of temporary sizes. An air pressure gauge or tread depth gauge may be useful in your assessment. Another option is to purchase a ContiComfortKit and forgo the tire all together.

Updated Tire Rack warranty information gives a more complete overview

To help consumers make a more informed tire buying decision treadlife warranty time spans have been added along side the mileage coverage when applicable.

This is done with the Year / Mileage format popular with auto manufacturers for new vehicle warranties.

For example the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 2 now lists a treadlife warranty of 5 Years / 50,000 Miles instead of just 50,000 Miles.

This is especially helpful when a treadlife warranty does not cover the same time span as the rest of the warranty. An example of this is the Kumho Ecsta LX Platinum which is covered by a 6 Year replacement warranty but, only 4 Years / 60,000 Miles treadlife.

*Tire Rack's Tire Warranty Rating is an overall rating given to tire warranties after subjectively evaluating their value for the consumer. Warranties are rated on a scale of 0-5 with 5 being the highest. This rating combines all of the aspects of each tire's warranty where applicable, including: mileage/treadlife, materials and workmanship, balance and uniformity, replacement tire cost, warranty duration and any special manufacturer's warranties that apply. See official manufacturer's warranty brochure for specific details.
