Initial Review, 700 Miles on Tires
January 10, 2014

Amazing tire! I've never used a snow tire before, but these are impressive. When I received them, I was a little concerned because the tread pattern didn't seem very aggressive. But all concerns disappeared with the first snow. I'm used to driving on very wide all-season tires that were great in the rain but sometimes a little scary in the winter. With the Blizzak DM-V1s, I feel like I can go anywhere and barely even notice the snow. We've had a couple significant snows and a few more days with minor snow or ice since I bought the tires, and I couldn't be more impressed with their performance. In fact, I used to sometimes play a little on icy roads when no one was around (slide on purpose), but I can't even break these loose without getting completely crazy. Wish that I had made the switch to snow tires years ago, but I'll be buying these from now on.

These came on our 06 Denali when we bought it used. We have not changed the tires since buying it a year and a half ago for studs, and we have had no problems in the varied Alaska winter driving experience. They have even done better than the Hankooks on my Dodge Megacab.

Very nice.

I just got these tires. They are ok, but I'm not terribly impressed. I think they are overpriced probably by about $10/ea. Perhaps it is due to me going from a grand touring to a standard touring tire. There is a lot of flex in the sidewall of this tire. For about $15 more you can get a better performing, higher speed rated tire (600 A A) with a road hazard warranty included instead of these (700 A A). Least impressive it's hydroplaning resistance. For a brand new tire, they don't pump much water at 72MPH. If you are the type to drive 5-10MPH under in the rain, these tires might be more up your alley. I read the road test results and was concerned about it's dry stopping distance, but I haven't noticed a problem with that. General tires seem to have a characteristic of developing a flat spot when parked overnight. These are no exception but that seems to go away after riding a very short distance (1/4 mile.) What also may be due to note is that if the tire is repaired from a puncture, the warranty is voided. I opted for a cheaper tire on my older car. It did lessen the impact on my wallet. I think I revealed how this tire is not a Michelin, and if you are attracted by a lower price tag how this tire might be ok for you. I'm a bit surprised how well it did in test results, perhaps it was tested against tires that are just average or below average.

These tires came stock on my 2013 Dodge Ram Express single cab short bed. And as a general rule of thumb, factory tires 9 times out of 10 are not the optimal tire for the vehicle and the GoodYear Wrangler SR-A is no exception. Although the ride is pretty good, but in light snow they get the job done but nothing to write home about, throw a little ice in the mix and I started thinking about new tires. My truck only has 5000 miles on it and the first upgrade I plan on are new tires.

Good looking tire when new but on a 4x4 they wear very fast on dry pavement. At 22000
they are gone, unsafe to use. I have gone thru 2 sets worth of stump pulling and off roading with these but it's time to step up to a better quality tire.
On wet pavement I can overpower them easily and with ABS in use they keep your attention glued to the windshield. Don't even attempt to stop short with these!

I bought these tires and have put 15,000 miles on them. I noticed immediately, how quiet they are - ultra silent... they also have incredible traction in the rain... the car handles exactly the same as it does on dry pavement...sticks like GLUE! Today was the first winter weather... and these tires were amazing! no slips, skids, spinning tires, they braked exceptionally well. This is the ONLY tire I'll ever buy for my cars ! I am SO impressed !!! Very unusual with such a long tread life! Most tires with this long of a tread-life are very noisy and don't handle well in wet or winter conditions. This tire has it ALL! WOW!! All I can say is "WOW"

I have this tire on all family vehicles and three vehicles of my adult children on wheels using from December through March in Iowa. Your surveys indicate it is either tied for superior to any and all other winter tires you sell and I would strongly agree with those surveys. I have used this tire for so many years the it used to be named Winterfire. I have referred this tire to many others, to many to cound after allowing them to drive my car when I have them mounted. Every single one of them eventually purchase this tire for their autos. My wife's 1999 Dodge Intrepid FWD has them and it surpasses performance of most 4WD vehoicles under any winter condition it Iowa. Anyone and everyone who lives in a area with winter conditions should consider this tire or at a minimum another winter tire from your seletion.

While Maryland isnt exactly the snowbelt, Im actually from NY, and my girlfriend (its her truck) is from Idaho. Were driving out to her hometown this fall and Ill be staying there probably through November, then driving back East. Since I do heavy construction, and construction sites are often muddy and difficult, combined with the snow in upstate NY, we wanted good AT tires on the truck. So far these are performing excellent, with phenomenal dry traction and good mud traction. I drove ambulances for a living, for fourteen years in NYC, so I have a great appreciation for tires that grip the road. These AT2s are doing a great job so far and I expect them to handle the coming Northern Idaho winter travel with ease.

About the only negative Ive found with these tires, so far, is that my gas mileage dropped quite a bit. I had been getting about 18 mpg highway and I now seem to be getting about 15.5, even with inflation pressures on the hard side. Well see if that changes any as the tires get broken in.

So far i have 30k on these tires on my 2005 cummins 6 speed. The truck has around 425 hp and I have to try real hard to break these tires loose on pavement.

The fronts have about 3/8" of tread and rears have 1/4" Probably going to get at least another 10-15k

I tow my 20' trailer twice a month, Ive never gotten a nail or flat with these tires. (knock on wood)

In comparison my stock tires were replaced at 25,000 and my firestone all terrains lasted 40k which was great but i needed a mud tire.

I needed something at our muddy property towing trailers in the back. 95% of the time towing a trailer with 8,000 lbs of steel it can pull through 4-6" of mud in 2wd. After seeing that, I was sold on these tires.

I will be buying again!

I have only to compare these to the OEM continentals and some Cooper CS4 T rated. These hands down handle better wet and dry than my previous 2 sets. Yes they are more noisey than both OEMs and the Coopers but the feels of the car is much more direct and with no reduction in ride quality. I live in Arkansas so very mild winters as far as snow but it still gets into teens in winter so i didnt want summer and winter tires just an all season that would perform better than the previous tires and these deliver. Very fun on streets and curvy roads. The tires are very audible at there limits so its easy to drive spiritedly with out going too far. This is a big car but these tire seems to handle it well. As far as noise mine are no louder than the day i put them on. I did have to raise the psi of the tires by 3psi a piece to correct a little feathering on the 2nd row of lugs rotated and the wear stopped. Had an alignmet performed at install. Would recommend for anyone who doesnt want an all out summer tire but more than your all season.

10000 miles on them and four tries at getting rid of the incessant thump at 65 to 75 mph, My car has 265,000 miles. I have had 8 sets of four tires ALL BOUGHT THROUGH TIRE RACK!!! I have never and I mean NEVER had an issue with Tire rack, and still don't. I conceded, it may be the car so I changed the prop shafts ($600 they had 90,000 miles and some wear), no change in the Thump, Thump, Thump. Ok maybe the one U-joint or the carrier bearing, swapped them (I ALWAYS use OEM, no cheap parts as this is my track car as well and the thought of a cheap knock off part letting go in a corner at 100mph makes me ill). No change. Its the tires, no doubt in my mind.

I envy the folks that got smooth quiet ones, but it seems like a crap shoot that is not worth taking.

Initial experience - this tire is so much better than the OEM Kuhmo Solus KH16, it's an unfair fight. Given my purchase of the P7 was for less than the Kuhmo here - slam dunk, game over.

The Solus was noisy, poor ride, so-so tread life and awful in snow. With the snowy winter we have had around SE Michigan this season, the improved performance of the Pirelli has been pretty astounding.

Although more miles are needed for a full assessment, thus far the snow, slush and dry performance of the tire has been excellent for a four-season tire. The ride and noise improvements are just as noteworthy. Highly recommended so far.

Installed a set of four w/o studs. The following day we received a lake effect snowstorm with up to 12" of wet snow in places. Tires worked perfectly even on roads that hadn't been plowed. Since then, I've gone through two additional significant snowfalls with no problems at all. The tire noise on dry roads is not at all bad, about what I had before on Firestone FR380 all season radials. Dealer set inflation pressures higher than other tires, I have 39 lbs. in mine at present. Traction on ice is very good, even w/o the optional studs. I recommend these tires and would definitely buy them again.

I have 32500 on these tires and they are a 2/32. Tires do not perform well in snow or ice, but the performance and tread wear are what really bothered me. Buyer beware of this tire! PS I usually do not write reviews, but this tire needs to change.

Yokohama's PARADA Spec-X is a Proven All-Season Performer for Your SUV

Thursday, January 23, 2014 by Doc Horvath

Currently sitting at the top of our survey results in the Street/Sport Truck All-Season category, the Yokohama PARADA Spec-X continues to impress SUV and light truck owners with superior wet and dry traction, as well as a quiet ride. Available in sizes ranging from 17" up to 28" wheel diameters, the PARADA Spec-X has built a strong reputation over its life by using a directional tread pattern and wide center grooves to resist hydroplaning and enhance wet traction. Recently, Yokohama added more sizes to provide owners of "modern" muscle cars with confidence in year-round conditions, even light snow. Now, vehicles like the Dodge Challenger and Chevrolet Camaro can trade their fast wearing Original Equipment tires for extended life and improved comfort.

The range of available sizes means the PARADA Spec-X can be used on a variety of vehicles including:

  • Late-model GM SUVs
  • Cadillac Escalades
  • Chevrolet Suburbans
  • Acura MDX and RDX
  • Honda Ridgeline
  • Mazda CX-9
