BFGoodrich Brings Back Classic Red Line Tire for New Camaro and Challenger

Thursday, March 28, 2013 by Doc Horvath

Do you own a new Camaro or Challenger with 18" wheels? We've just received our first batch of 245/55R18 BFGoodrich Radial T/A Spec tires with the famous red stripe! This size is standard on LS and most LT Chevrolet Camaros and will also work on the Dodge Challenger equipped with factory 18" wheels. The 1/4" wide stripe recalls the muscle car days of the late sixties when similar tires were a factory option. The tire is being used by Hurst on their limited Redline Edition Camaro.

With a 102T service description, the Radial T/A Spec is designed to provide a comfortable and quiet ride for cruising around town, while the 245/55R18 sidewall height provides plenty of cushion. While not a high performance tire intended for the track, it does provide plenty of wet and dry grip for the occasional enthusiastic drive. Take a look at what our customers are saying about their experience with the BFGoodrich Radial T/A Spec:

"This is the most comfortable tire I have run in an 18". It has a level of comfort and still lets you feel like you're in a sports car without cringing every time you hit a bump. The tire holds the car out of the hole and exceeded my expectations in the corners. You get a lot more than you pay for!" -- Tire Rack Consumer Review, 2012 Chevrolet Camaro LS

"These tires well exceeded my expectations. This is an excellent tire and I will definitely buy it again." -- Tire Rack Consumer Review, 2011 Chevrolet Camaro LT

"This is a phenomenal tire. I can't believe they can make a tire this good for such a great price. Probably the best tire I have owned." -- Tire Rack Consumer Review, 2011 Chevrolet Camaro LS

Our customer's feedback is a great tool to use when shopping as it'll help you with input from other drivers and their long term experience with each tire.

While we won't see the red line option in other sizes soon, availability of the 245/55R18 size is limited. If you have a new Camaro or Challenger with 18" wheels, consider the BFGoodrich Radial T/A Spec.

For the immediate future, we can only get the redlines in a 245/55R18. Sorry !

Any chance you'll be making these to fit the C6 Corvette Grand Sport? Bring these back for all cars!!!
Monday, April 29, 2013 by doc:

I'll pass your suggestion on to BFG, but since theses are not high speed rated it may be too much of a reach !

Thanks !

What about red line tires in 15" sizes?
G70-15, H70-15 for 60's vintage cars?
Tuesday, May 7, 2013 by Doc:
Sadly we do not have any options for red line tires in other rim sizes. Sorry !
Monday, May 13, 2013 by Mike:
Redlines should be available in all sizes. They're missing the boat.

I would buy a set of 225/40-18 oe 235/40-18.
Wednesday, May 22, 2013 by Steve:
I agree with Mike. Redlines in ALL sizes, please! At a reasonable price too!

red line tires for 2013 mustang GT ???
Friday, May 31, 2013 by doc:
As mentioned, BFG is offering the redline tire in the 245/55R18 size only which would be 1.2" taller in diameter than your stock tires. Other than your speedometer being off 4.4%, there would be a small chance the taller tires might rub if the suspension was fully compressed. Until we get some other size options you're going to be out of luck sadly.

I just saw a guy with these in a 20 inch tire?

looking for 235/60/15 redline for my 65 GTO. I think Firestone makes them. Wanted a w2heel tire package!

will these replace 235/50 tires?
Tuesday, July 16, 2013 by Bubba:
How will the smaller 245/55R18 affect my truck that is running P265/65 R18. I need tires now and would really like to purchase some red line tires. Thanks
Wednesday, July 17, 2013 by doc:
I'd have to have you look elsewhere for redline options for 15" wheels....Sorry !
Wednesday, July 17, 2013 by doc:
The 245/55R18 tire size is about 1/2" wider and 1.4" taller in overall diameter. The change in diameter would cause your speedometer to read 5% slower than your actual speed, and may rub if the suspension is fully compressed. We would not be comfortable recommending the 245/55R18 size for your application. Sorry !

How will the smaller 245/55r18 affect my truck that is now running P265/65 R18.
Wednesday, July 24, 2013 by Doc:
Your 265/65R18 size is approximately 31.6" in overall diameter and can carry up to 2,469 lbs. per tire. The 245/55R18 size is approximately 28.6" in diameter and can carry up to 1.920 lbs. While the load capacity of the smaller tire still may be enough to be safe on the vehicle (I'm not sure what kind of truck you have), the smaller diameter would create problems with your speedometer, transmission and any electronic features like ABS and / or traction control. We could never encourage the use of the smaller size on your application. Sorry !

come on man! us old guys want em for
our old school look in 15" sizes...
you would sell thousands.

will this tire fit 2008 dodge avenger that has 18teens on it
Wednesday, September 4, 2013 by Doc:
Your Dodge uses a 215/55R18 size, and the BFG redline tire is only available in the 245/55R18. While the BFG is just over an inch wider than your existing tire size, it is also 1.3" taller overall. The increase in diameter would (at the very least) cause your speedometer to read 5% faster than your actual speed, as well as cause the ABS system to malfunction in the event it was needed. Unfortunately we could never recommend the larger tire size given the issues you would most likely face.
Tuesday, September 17, 2013 by JP:
I agree with the guys above. Need sizes for older muscle cars. I'd like a 205-70x14 redline for my 67 camaro
Friday, September 20, 2013 by Ray:
I would like to get redline tires for my 2012 Camaro 2lt which takes a 19" tire. Does anybody make them?h
Tuesday, September 24, 2013 by Doc:
Unfortunately we do not have access to any redlines other that the 245/55R18 size. There are a few "vintage" tire dealers that have redline tires, but they are all in 14" and 15" diameters.
Friday, September 27, 2013 by Mark:
I too would like to see these tires made in other sizes to fit older muscle cars. I think there's a huge market out there for these tires and BFG is missing the boat if they don't listen to their customers!
Sunday, October 13, 2013 by R:
Agree with the comments about making red lines in other sizes. The consumer wants them - build it and they will come!
Tuesday, October 15, 2013 by Doc:
Mark and "R",
I've been passing notes to the BFG guys (among others), but to no avail as of yet......

Stay tuned, you never know what may happen !

I just bought a 2010 SRT8 Challenger with 20 inch stock mag wheels. Does anyone make the redline or blueline in this size of rim? My tires only have 8,000 actual miles on them now but when I replace them I would like redlines or blueline tires. Please leave message on my email. My car is a limited edition B5 blue.
Friday, November 1, 2013 by Doc:
Unfortunately we do not have access to any redlines other that the 245/55R18 size. I have not seen a blue stripe tire (new) for some time.

can you let me know if I can get "redline" tires for my 09 caddi. STS? I had them on a 65' GTO they would look great on my burgandy STS, thanks.
Wednesday, November 13, 2013 by Doc:
The BFG tire we have would be too tall in diameter to work on your STS, and would most likely rub. Sorry !
Friday, November 15, 2013 by scott connors:
they now have 245.55.18 for my 2010 Challenger..

Friday, December 13, 2013 by Doc:
We'd recommend contacting our friends at Coker Tire for the best selection in redline tires.
Friday, May 16, 2014 by smitty:
would these redlines be ok to swap onto stock 2010 mustang v6 convertible?
Tuesday, May 20, 2014 by Doc:
The 245/55R18 size would be just a little taller than we could guarantee to fit without the occasional rub (245/50R18 is preferred, but we can't get redlines in that size).
Sunday, June 29, 2014 by Jake:
Put me on the long list of people who would love to see red lines in more sizes. Specifically I'd like to see a 235 50 18 for my Mustang GT.
Wednesday, September 10, 2014 by Dick:
Add me to the want list. Old fart, old school guy with a 2014 Vette in yellow and Z-51. I'd buy redlines in a heart beat if they were offered in 19" and 20" to fit my car!
Monday, October 6, 2014 by Dante:
My 2013 Red Jetta GLI would look great with 225-40 18" Red Line's
Wednesday, October 15, 2014 by Chris:
Do you make a performance "red line" tire 255-55-18
Monday, October 27, 2014 by RICH:
I would like to see red stripe tires 235/40 R19 96V. I have a metallic black fusion with red leather that would look killer with such a tire. I'd buy them in a heartbeat. There's a market out there just waiting!
Wednesday, November 5, 2014 by James DiCicco:
Can I get P245/55 R18 tires with RWL for my 2011 Camaro?
Saturday, November 8, 2014 by Doc:
We can only get the redline tire in your size, no raised whites unfortunately
Saturday, November 15, 2014 by Barry:
Is this tire still available with the red line? I have a 2011 Challenger.
Thursday, January 8, 2015 by Khanh:
Hello Doc,
Wishing you, your family and Tire Rack staff a wonderful 2015.

I am looking to buy a set of 245/55R/18 tires and it seems like not many selection for this size. I have snow tires on my stock rims :225/65/17. I have also another set of rims: 18/7.5J offset +52.5 and I want to put summer tires on this set of rims. Would 245 BF Goodrich Radial T/A fit my 7.5 width rim? I do not own a Camaro nor Challenger. It's just a 2.0 sport model Mazda CX5.
Monday, January 19, 2015 by Bill:
will they work for 2015 mustang V-6 convertable with 235/50/18
Friday, January 23, 2015 by Doc:
For the Mazda, you can use 225/60R18, 235/60R18 or 245/55R18 as options. As a different note, I think a 52.5mm offset is a little too high to work without a spacer (we normally use wheels with 40mm to 48mm offsets for reference)
Friday, January 23, 2015 by Doc:
The 245/55R18 would be a little over one inch taller (overall) compared to your stock tires, and would cause almost a 5% error in your speedometer. That amount of error could also cause issues with the ABS / Traction control systems, so you'd most likely have to have the car reprogrammed for the larger diameter tire to be practical.
